L.A. Confidential specs:
Warner Home Video has announced the specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'L.A. Confidential', due to hit store shelves on September 23rd, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. On this BD-25, video will be presented in 2.4:1 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Also included with the release will be a CD with seven songs from the movie's soundtrack.
Extras include:
Commentary with film critic Andrew Sarris and the full cast
Over 90 minutes of new featurettes
L.A. Confidential TV pilot with Kiefer Sutherland
More extras will be announced shortly.

i wonder if the decision to release these movies on BD-25s is strictly an economical one for Warner, or if there are other forces at place, such as bottlenecks in the BD-50 lines. it hast to be at least partly economical, because they could at least put the extras in HD on another BD-25 and release this as a 2-disc set.

Anchor Bay has revealed early details on Halloween: The 30th Anniversary Commemorative Set. The 6-disc package will include the original 1978 film, the extended edition which has been out of print for several years, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, a Halloween 25 Years of Terror documentary with cast and crew, and a bonus Blu-ray release of Halloween. On top of all that, the collectible set will include a replica of the Michael Myers mask. Retail will be $89.97. We've attached a trade advertisement containing the official package artwork below:

Based on their inadequate view of lossless audio, I think it is a case of them being cheap. Just for comparison, I Know What You Did Last Summer, from Sony, is only 104 minutes long + TrueHD audio and a tiny set of features, yet they're putting it on a BD50.

The Anchor Bay Halloween announcement was very sad. It would be nice for them to give Halloween the Dawn of the Dead treatment. I'm sure eventually ...
But what's even more sad is Warner Brothers! They were the early leader, the absolute stamp of quality when it came to DVD. Especially in the beginning, they were one of the studios that really gave the new medium a big push. But they have kinda struggled when it comes to HD. Here's hoping they can right the ship.

I would assume this is to coincide with the theatrical release of Fricke's latest 70mm opus 'Samsara' (maybe not, since imdb now states the release year as 2009)

So I see Amazon has Top Gun on Blu-Ray not available for order. I still have a standing order for it though. Is it possible they're just not taking anymore pre-orders?
I have a feeling 7/29 is going to be one of those headache Blu-Ray days for Paramount discs - can't wait to see what Amazon ships and doesn't ship.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Dawn of the Dead: Unrated Director's Cut' (2004), 'Land of the Dead: Unrated Director's Cut', and 'The Thing' to Blu-ray on September 30th. Available separtately, or part of a 'Halloween Starter Pack' box set, the titles will each come on a BD-25 with 1080p widescreen video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

This is a trend I'm not liking with their Blu-ray releases. I'd prefer the option of watching the documentary for The Thing separately.
