What the hell is it with WB and no lossless audio? And to add insult to injury, their DD 5.1 tracks are 640kbps. At least Universal in their HD-DVD days would offer 1.5Mbps.

Yep... tons and tons of extras on LA Confidential, there just not be enough room to add lossless audio, especially if it's on a BD-25. Can't wait to see Shawshank's specs later this year lol.

Lossless audio is not a deal breaker for me. I just had to say it to throw my 2 cents in. Missing extras is more of a concern to me, and of course any picture quality issues like DNR. I believe that 640kbps is double the theater's bitrate.

On September 2, Warner Home Video will release a pair of Clint Eastwood catalog action flicks, Gauntlet (1977) and Every Which Way But Loose (1978), along with Steven Seagal and Katherine Heigl in Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995), the virus thriller Outbreak (1995) and Arnold Schwarzenegger's tangle with crocodiles in Eraser (1996) on Blu-ray Disc.
Each title will likely carry the same extra features found on their respective previously released DVD versions. We'll know for certain either way in the weeks ahead once final specs are announced.
Likewise, technical specs are currently unknown at this time other than a requisite 1080p transfer. Warner's immediate influence on New Line by holding back lossless audio on Blow doesn't give us the greatest hope for lossless to appear across this wave.

Glad to see WB is putting out some more obscure titles on the format. I've been meaning to watch The Gauntlet and Every Which Way But Loose. Haven't seen Eraser in years, but I remember the Arnold/crocodile wrestling very well. Outbreak makes me think of that episode of the Clerks cartoon where Jay and Silent Bob get the monkey from Patrick Swayze's pet shop and inadvertently cause an outbreak scare.
Under Siege 2...quite the idiotic masterpiece: Seagal, Eric Bogosian making the film a scenery buffet, a nubile Katherine Heigl, and Clarence Boddicker himself Kurtwood Smith as a general. And where else can you find Big Ed Hurley from Twin Peaks getting his ass handed to him by Steven Seagal?
If WB keeps up the momentum of releasing action movies like these, I'm praying we get The Last Boy Scout, Tango & Cash (anamorphic!) and Cobra sooner rather than later.

Myers fans, make more room on your DVD shelf. Sources tell .com that an ad will appear this week in one of the video trade papers announcing a new six-disc (!) Halloween: 30th Anniversary box set. The latest presentation will include multiple presentations of John Carpenter's 1978 film - including a Blu-Ray edition and the rare extended edition. As an incentive, distributor Anchor Bay will package the set with a miniature Michael Myers mask. Look for full specs and artwork here on Shock soon!
Wonderful, Anchor Bay's first double-dip! After releasing less then a dozen tiles on Blu-ray they already decided to go back and revisit Halloween (which I felt was a fine release already). I'm actually shocked it was not Evil Dead II : The Blu-stick Edition or something like that.

Well now, hold on. That may just be the current edition packaged in with 5 DVDs. It would be strange to include an extended edition only on DVD though.
I'm not sure about the color issues, but Halloween wasn't one of the DNR-infested titles, was it? At least with those they have a good reason to redo them.

A 6 disc DVD set could be the 1. Theatrical Version, 2. Extended (TV) Version, 3. 25 Years of Horror Disc 1, 4. 25 Years of Horror Disc 2, and then another 2 discs filled with whatever they want. Hopefully a Blu-ray release will follow and make the Theatrical and Extended version available through branching.
As for Halloween on Blu...it wasn't bad at all. Most people had issues with the color being 'off' depending on who you want to believe. Personally I felt it one of the best titles Anchor Bay has released so far.
