2.0 is the final spec for Blu-ray Disc playback though, isn't it? The PS3 may not have a final update for at least a few years.

non tech speaking, there is still a few things that the ps3 will have future fw updates for including the dts-hd ma.
i think the dts hdma is the only other thing that appears known to be coming.

Are you confusing "final spec" (meaning Blu-ray profile 2.0) and "final firmware update"?

No one has said anything about this being the last firmware update for the PS3. However, this particular firmware update does make the PS3 profile 2.0 compliant, which is the final spec for Blu-ray playback.
