Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

Synapse is releasing bare bones editions of the two Demons films in November.

And I can't wait for their Argento releases and am really looking forward to a properly mastered(especially audio) Suspiria!

Curtains is currently at its lowest price on Amazon at $14.39.

I blind bought it for the upcoming horror challenge after reading all the glowing reviews of the BD and a great cover story in the magazine Rue Morgue last month. Hope I am not disappointed. I don't blind buy much anymore.

The reality is those who wanted to wait for a cheaper option wanted everything that the steelbooks contained, minus the price.

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

I just watched Curtains the other day after blind buying it. Can't go wrong with a slasher from '83. I thought it was great. Vernon is a total sleazebag, the girls cover a variety of hotness and the killer's mask is so ridiculous but it works.

That ice skating kill is gold, I tell ya.

Looks like God Told Me To is being prepped for release. No date yet. Can't go wrong with more Cohen on BD.

Come on IT'S ALIVE trilogy!! You can do it, BU! The Cohen fans will forever be in your debt. Certainly seems like it would sell better than GOD TOLD ME TO, but I'm grateful for another Cohen film all the same.

SUSPIRIA being of course the diamond in the rough on that list.

How many Blu releases of TENEBRE have there been now? 6? 7? Man, that cow has been milked!

This list is DVD & BD right?

I remember the Violent Shit Collection being on their list for a long while now. I have the LE R2 DVD set, but I would gladly pick the films up again if Synapse puts them out.

That's fantastic, how's the mediocre transfer treating you?

I don't think Tenebre has ever been released on BR in the US.

That is correct. I think zyzzle was talking about how many times Anchor Bay released the film on DVD?

Can't we say that for many Blu-rays?

Apparently we already know this version will be the BEST OF THE BEST EVER!

We do.

1) It's a brand new 4K transfer from the original negative.
2) It's in the hands of Synapse Films, whose track record is about as sterling as it gets.

So we already know it's going to be better? Just like those supervised by bla bla bla that turned out bad?

I guess for the folks too poor to buy a region free Blu-Ray player they can finally own this years later.

The list in the booklet doesn't mention formats, just titles. I pretty much typed out the list as it's printed (with a few modifications, such as removing CURTAINS and PROM NIGHT since at this point in time they're already here rather than 'coming soon').

Indeed, Synapse existed before Blu-ray. I'm wondering if it would eventually be simpler to merge "HD Talk" & "DVD Talk" into a generalized "Physical Media Talk" to avoid the confusion that arises from format exclusivity. Or should I post the Synapse list to DVD Talk in addition to HD Talk?

There are very few people I trust to always put out a stellar disc with superior A/V quality - one is Don May Jr. Another is Bill Lustig.

The Synapse release of the two Demons films blow the Arrow releases right out of the water... and both companies used the same master.

Even if Synapse were using the 2K master used for the already existing Blu-rays, it would be a night and day difference.

Don May Jr. has been in this business for decades and he does not fuck around. This will be the ultimate release of Suspiria, bar none. I just hope they're able to get better materials for Phenomena and Tenebre.

At least know what you're talking about before you threadcrap next time.
