Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

I wonder what the odds are of seeing Exterminator 2 and Maniac Cop 2. Neither ever got proper DVD release in the US. I had to import the first Exterminator, as well as Maniac Cop 2. At least I can upgrade one of those to BD sometime. They should've just done double features.

I could have sworn The Deadly Spawn was announced for a bluray release...

It was, but it's Elite Entertainment's first release on Blu-ray. I don't think anyone would object to Elite being added to this thread, though.

I wouldn't hold your breath on Maniac Cop 2, unfortunately. Apparently the licensor is asking for an absurd amount of money...far more than any of the cult labels would ever consider paying since they'd never make their costs back. I don't know about Exterminator 2. The last VHS release I can find was put out by Warner, but I don't know if they still have the rights. If they do, I think at best you'd get a MOD DVD and not a shiny new Blu-ray disc.

Yea... don't see it staying that price. I'm in no hurry to jump on that title until it hits the typical BU $15-16

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

I'm confused, is the version on the bluray of Frankenhooker the R-rated or unrated cut of the film?

Unrated. Sorry, I use an Amazon import script to prefill a lot of those fields, and they incorrectly listed it as R. It's unrated.

There's already a thread for The Deadly Spawn here.

From Blu-ray.com--
Synapse Films will release Intruder on Blu-ray this December. Director Scott Spiegel's 1989 horror-thriller centers on a homicidal maniac hunting the overnight staff at a supermarket.

Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money), who famously introduced Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction) to his future producing partner Lawrence Bender (Inglourious Basterds), stocks his film with a cast of cult favorites like Bruce Campbell (Army of Darkness), Renée Estevez (Heathers), Burr Steers (writer/director of Igby Goes Down), Ted Raimi (Drag Me to Hell), and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi.

Synapse's Blu-ray presents the eighty-eight-minute Director's Cut of Intruder - recently given a 2K digital restoration - in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio with a 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio sound track. The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack also contains a number of bonus supplements, including:

Commentary with writer/director Scott Spiegel and producer Lawrence Bender
Slashed Prices: The Making of Intruder featurette
Extended murder sequences from the original workprint
Outtakes from Spiegel's lost short film, Night Crew
Cast audition footage
Stills gallery
Theatrical trailer

Intruder is expected to street on December 13th.

Wow - seriously impressive.

On a related side note, it annoys the FUCK out of me that when DVDBeaver does comparisons, they always list the aspect ratio for the DVDs, but they just put "1080p" where it should be listed for Blu-rays.

House by the Cemetery is now $14.99. Not one I'm personally interested in, but that bodes well for Night Train Murders. I hope BU releases more than just upgrades on Blu-ray next year.

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

Well, my Maniac Cop BD arrived. Both the DVD and BD I have were released by Synapse, but it says 85 minutes on the BD and 87 on the DVD. What's up with that?

Appropriately enough, Amazon recommended the Tom Hanks film Nothing in Common because I purchased Night Train Murders.
