Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray
Of course the problem is that they will lose sales if they release new (to them) titles to DVD only because people like me will wait for the eventual Blu Ray release. I only buy DVD if there is no chance it will be Blu anywhere in the world.

Details about BD release of Maniac.....and more?
http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?op...ews&Itemid=167
The notorious Joe Spinell-starring gorefest will be unleashed in two-DVD and two-Blu-ray sets October 26, with a brand new hi-def transfer and (on the latter) 7.1 DTS-HD audio. Special features have yet to be finalized, but we’re told there will be around six or seven hours’ worth of ’em, including fresh interviews with lead actress Caroline Munro, FX creator Tom Savini, composer Jay Chattaway and “Maniac” songwriters Michael Sembello and Dennis Matkosky (yes, the FLASHDANCE hit was originally intended for MANIAC’s soundtrack!). We’ll bring you full details as soon as we get ’em. Lustig’s urban actioner VIGILANTE makes its Blu-ray debut via BU September 21, and on the company’s Blu-ray schedule for 2011 (no specific dates yet) are Dario Argento’s DEEP RED, INFERNO and CAT O’ NINE TAILS, Larry Cohen’s Q: THE WINGED SERPENT and GOD TOLD ME TO and Harry Kümel’s DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS.

So where does Echo Bridge fit in? They seem like a small studio, but their titles are all dirt cheap. I find it rather odd they stock some of the same titles as Asylum at a 3rd of the price though. Look up things like 100 Million BC and Land That Time Forgot on Amazon. Asylum release for $20+ and Echo Bridge release for $7. Who the hell is buying the Asylum one for $20 and why?

E1 to Distribute Blue Underground
By : Chris Tribbey | Posted: 25 Jun 2010
E1 Entertainment has grabbed exclusive distribution rights to the video library of Blue Underground, effective June 28.
The agreement covers nearly 200 titles, including Cannonball, City of the Living Dead, Final Countdown, Circle of Iron, Emmanuelle in America and The Crazies.
E1's immediate release plans for Blue Underground titles were not available, however, the company requests that orders and returns be directed to E1 Entertainment Distribution U.S. starting June 28.
"Blue Underground goes to great lengths to feature remastered transfers from original vault elements," E1 said in a press release. "The label has developed a reputation of releasing the highest quality editions available of their films, and they have developed a broad core audience base for their releases."

E1 doesn't release alot of BR and I guess this means Blue Underground is going bye bye. I wonder if ther current BR will go OOP

I didn't even realize it until I saw this and went back and checked, but they already had Machine Gun McCain (BR and DVD) in their August catalog.

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray
My kneejerk reaction is that it's just a distribution deal and that E1 won't have any sway on what's served up on a particular disc (other than possibly saying "no, we won't distribute this title") or how it's presented. When Ryko started distributing Synapse Films releases, for instance, you didn't see the quality of the transfers drop or anything like that.
Presumably either they're getting a better deal financially or E1 thinks they can get BU titles onto more shelves. It shouldn't have any impact on us at all.

I think it just means E1 will distribute BU's titles. Probably just a slightly better retailer presence. The cost to remaster these little cult films is very expensive and I have a feeling BU is probably only breaking even when they consider all the duds and hits they have released on the format.

Would be nice to see more BU and Synapse titles hit major retail stores.
There definitely was a time where you could walk into a Best Buy and pick up Unearthed, BU, Synapse and Dark Sky Releases. Now not so much, with Dark Sky being sort of represented at BB stores.

FWIW, the Borders website has the list price as $23.99(obviously a mistake). If you use the current 40% off coupon and do a site to store option(saves the shipping charge), you can pick this up for $14.39 plus tax.
