You can check local stock here...

If you get one...make sure you check the firmware (I'm sure you know this...but just in case). There is an update on Pio's website.

Also, every time I see your avatar...I think you are actually that Hills kid posting...it's creepy yet funny all at the same time...

If you strike out at Best Buy, you can give 6th Avenue a shot. They are an authorized dealer and they currently have the BDP-51FD in stock for $268. However, they are running a promotion until July 23 where you "name your own price". You submit a price that you want to pay and they will e-mail you back whether or not they agree to that price. Who knows?

It's rock solid. Basically a clone of the BD35, except it has streaming abilities. Compared to the Sony 360, the load times may be a tad slower and it doesn't handle java menus as well. I've owned almost every Panasonic player and they, along with Sony, are the most reliable, imo.

However, there are several posts on AVS from members stating they have had freezing issues at random times during playback. I have not encountered any freezing on any Panasonic player.

FWIW, Costco has their version of this unit(605) that includes an HDMI cable for $199.99($279.99-$80 instant rebate).

^Yes, $300 for a Panny DMP-BD60 is way high, even with three "free" BDs. It can be had from Amazon for $195, shipped:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Some reviews:
http://reviews.cnet.com/blu-ray-play...-33490457.html
http://hometheatermag.com/discplayer...lu-ray_player/
http://www.testfreaks.com/dvd-player...ic-dmp-bd60-k/

Make of them what you will. I have the BD80 and like it, but I have no interest in Netflix streaming or internet connectivity, and the somewhat slow disc load times — compared to a power-hog PS3 — don't bother me at all.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

so if you guys had to choose between a Sony BDP-S360 and a Panasonic DMP-BD60 which would you go with?

My understanding (Sony owners can correct me if I am wrong) is that the Panny has slow motion and frame-by-frame advance — if the disc permits it — and the Sony doesn't. Other than that, they are pretty much the same. You wouldn't go wrong with either.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

I don't think that the Sony player will upscale SD DVD to 1080p24 -- which is a pretty neat trick on the BD60.

The price has now dropped to $188.16 at Amazon.com.

LG never announced it...but there she is. Judging from the info at LGs site its 1.1 player only.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

Samsung has now included Blockbuster support (for VOD?) on their Blu-ray line. Some in stores already have this updated firmware while current players do not.

LG's BD390 will soon have VuDu support according to their website. Unknown if the BD370 will as well.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

Wondering if the Insignia NS-BDLIVE01 is going to be added to the OP at some point. They're $149, but were on sale for $99 last month at BB, and I'm certain someone grabbed one.

I'm an HD DVD fan and have tons of unopened little red boxes, but I grabbed this player because I figure $100 is gonna be a price floor for some time, and I may want to snipe a BD title here or there before the next DD sale. But I haven't had a reason to pop open the box yet to see how it does, or to recommend data for the table in the OP. Has anyone else got this player?

Added to the OP, as requested.

This Best Buy store brand is a basic entry level player.

It does not have multi-channel analog outputs, onboard Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA decoding (but will bitstream the lossless codecs to a capable receiver), VOD streaming, or WiFi capability.

It does have both optical and coax legacy S/PDIF connections for older receivers, as well as HDMI for newer receivers with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA decoding capability.

With user-supplied additional memory, the player is BD Live capable.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

New 2.02 firmware is now available for Samsung BD-P1590. This new update includes Youtube and Blockbuster rentals on top of the already available netflix and Pandora streaming. So far no problems yet.

Firmware update 1.9 is available for the Panasonic BD60 and BD80. There is some speculation as to whether this update might cure the occasional freeze problem, but this isn't known, so far as I am aware.

^It's back up to $178.21 today, although that is still a decent price.

Amazon prices fluctuate so much that I find it helps to stash a bunch of items I want to track in my "wish list". Each day when I check my "cart" Amazon will list the items in the cart or wish list that have changed in price since the last time I checked.

It's been determined that this firmware update does NOT fix the freezing problem.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

I've been asking this question all over the place and no one has answered, so I'm hoping I get an answer in this thread.

The new Momitsu BDP-799 that hkflix.com is selling. Is is capable of decoding DTS-MA, DTS-HD, and Dolby TrueHD audio? I am considering getting this player and a Sony HTSS360 HTIB because they are in my budget. I've tried reading the manuals, but it is all Greek to me.

Here are links to the manuals in case any expert is feeling generous enough to help me:

Momitsu BDP=799
Sony HT-SS360

Thanks to anyone who can help me.
