So you can get 30% cashback now from Microsoft if you buy something on eBay by clicking through their Live.com site...I'm tempted to grab a BRD player, but don't know which would be the best bang for my buck, or if I should just wait until Xmas time if you guys think prices will come down a lot?
I could get the Sony S350 for about $190 net, or the Samsung 1500 for about $210 net. Any others I should consider (this will be a player for my parents, no advanced fancy stuff necessary)?
Or should I just hold off until November/December?

Cool what's the link? I'm considering getting it from Sony with their $150 off promotion with their CC? If it works(which it should) it will come out to $150 for the 350. Is their another stand alone in that same price range I should consider? My main reason for picking the 350 is that it bit-streams DTS-HD/MA(since I have a 3808
. I guess my second priority would be up-conversion but it's a long second since my A35 does such a great job I would be shocked if any stand alone would do as well as the A35.
P.S. The PS3 is not an option since my understanding it does not bit stream MA, power hog(always on stand by), I have a 360 elite and don't want a game system and BD player in-one. IMO not very aesthetically pleasing...... ok,ok UGLY
sorry

It's complicated (well, not really if you already have an eBay and PayPal account)...but first go here - http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q...&go=&form=QBLH - the top link probably says "Sony" and is an eBay link, click "Live Search cashback," then you're at eBay, and just search for the Sony BDP-S350, and choose one with a Buy-It-Now option. You have to do that and pay with PayPal to get 30% cash back. Of course you have to wait 60 days to get that cash back. Just make sure it says how much you'll be getting back in cash before you actually buy it.
Too many hoops to jump through for some people, but I wanted players now and I'm cheap, so it's fine with me.

Especially with the extra $50 off promotion, the $253 price was a great deal.

What is the main difference between the 350 and 550. I am just waiting for my Sony card and I am going to be purchasing.
I do not have an HDMI receiver. I know the 350 does not allow for high def audio other than thru HDMI. Does the 550?

The S550 decodes TrueHD audio, bitstreams DTS HD MA, and has 7.1 analog outs. Most thought it would internally decode DTS HD MA, but the product description on the website does not mention it.
Both players are BD Live.

So any reason for me to get the 550 over the 350. Again my receiver does not have HDMI but it appears the 550 does not internally decode DTS-MA anyway. Would I get better sound options with the 550 than the 350?

Just picked up the BDP-S350 with the MSN live deal. I doubt there will be a better deal, even on black friday. Hell, just gettting it for $271 shipped is a decent deal. $75 back is icing on the cake.

BTW, I was just at Target - they had about 10 Iron Man BD heads left. All have the new UPC sticker attached to them. They shouldn't be that tough to find. Though I didn't see a single normal BD release of the film nor did I see a section where they might go.

I just ordered one! Crap! Scratch that, I was denied. I have a credit score of 750 and I was denied (they told me they would snail mail me something...aka denied).

Wow, I was checking out the 350 @ Amazon again given the $50 discount listed a few posts back. It was $255 and change at about 12:12 am. By the time I got 3 discs selected and everything in the cart, it was 12:30 am and the 350 was listed at $260.92.

Sold my Panny BD-30 on craigslists. So I was going to take advantage of the $50 off offer on the 350 & three $17.95 titles and got this message. "Important Message: This offer has expired. Please refer to the details in your promotional offer for further information." I guess this offer is dead now.

For those of us who care about analog outs — perhaps I'm the only one here — the word from a poster at AVS is that his Sony S550 has full speaker controls:
That's a first for players under $1000. Finally. S550 Operating manual
The just-released Panasonic DMP-BD55 also seems to include full analog speaker controls, as described in the Big Picture Big Sound Review, although the distance settings are not as well thought out as in Toshiba HD DVD players.
Another review of the BD55:
cnet Review
Edit: The S550 analog speaker controls are only partial: the distance and volume settings are only in pairs (which is a problem for me because my room is asymmetrical) and there appears to be no adjustable crossover. Better than nothing but disappointing.

A small FYI, my local Wal-Mart (Simi Valley, CA) had the Panasonic BD30 for $200 on clearance. May or may not be for all stores. An amazing price on a great Profile 1.1 player.

Amazon tinkers with the prices on everything so often, it's insane. During the 3-4 days I was contemplating buying the 350, I probably saw at least 7 different prices. Earlier today it was down to about $252.xx, and now it's up to $266.82.
