No doubt.

I posted a few pages back, but just a reminder to those who own the Samsung 1400, the new 1.5 firmware is up on the site. The feedback seems to be that it has corrected alot of issues and the problem discs now play on the unit. Even though it's a 1.0 unit, it does decode TrueHD audio and can send DTS MA via bitstream. I believe it's only $329 on Amazon right now. And don't forget those 20% off BD player coupons at BB floating around.

Just wanted to mention I saw Rambo last night and it kicked ass. I was happy to see it's a Lionsgate release. If they do this as another 7.1 PCM Blu-Ray, I think it will easily beat 3:10 To Yuma and War for the best 7.1 track yet. The sound was awesome in the theater.

I've been hearing nothing but good things about this movie so far.

With the 20% Best Buy coupon, its $10 less then Best Buys price but you don't get 2 free instant movies...I'd pass.

Thanks for the news Mr Cinema. Btw, there is no problem with this being in the BD thread since it is pertaining to a major retailer dropping out the competition.

Circuit City is not going anywhere.

Toshiba had planned to discontinue the A3 and A35 weeks before Warners announcement. They were only planning on producing the A30 and Gen4 unit.
Venturer or someone else would handle the cheaper versions, Onkyo would do the more expensive. More CEs = Good...right?

Notice the price of the A30? $149.99.
Notice the price of the A3? $100.04
.04 = Clearance
.99 = NOT Clearance.

They are just moving units and several people have already confirmed Circuit City has more units on the way and are ordering more. All this is doing is helping out HD DVD.

Circuit City actually playing any major role in this war either way is actually really irrelevant. You sure seem ready and willing to counter every single post that just might signify the end of Hd-Dvd support by a retailer. Isn't it about time to cheer for them to say goodbye to that format so that we as consumers can just move on?

No, but the entire CC thing was not needed in a BLU-RAY thread.

The reasoning is because its a good thing for Blu-ray? Really? So this is a Pro Blu-ray/Bash HD DVD thread?

Again, as you can see what I posted earlier, Toshiba planned on discontinuing the A3/A35 line. That has been known for a while, before Warners announcement. I don't see why the sudden shock of them selling off players that include Warner titles (as they no longer support them) and replacing them with another Universal/Paramount movie instead (or phasing out those certain player altogether but changing the in-box movies for players not yet boxed up). Why continue to promote another studios movie who just back stabbed you?

Here we go again. Mods could we please have one format war thread so we don't have the BLU-RAY thread derailed yet again. Adam has already stated if you are not INTERESTED in BD, this thread is not for you! BD supporters can't even discuss releases without having to deal with discussions about downloads will win, FOX SUCKS!!!!, and who cares about numbers derailments. This is not meant as a jab to hd-dvd supporters because I do enjoy posting with most of y'all but there are some that just refuse to post anything productive to this thread. (Vent done)

If the CC clearance news was posted in the HD DVD thread, it would have been called bashing HD DVD and would have received negative responses. I'm surprised it's getting negative responses in a BD thread.

There won't ever be a VS thread again (thats was at least a year ago IIRC).
Problem is, you have people that have both Blu-ray and HD DVD and go in both threads to discuss. However when someone posts something that is not true or inaccurate, and someone that is slanted in the other formats direction see this and tries correcting it, its total chaos. I see the A30/A3 is on 'clearance' at Circuit City. Thats great. But we already know Toshiba was planning on discontinuing the A3/A35 versions. A30 may just be on sale to counter Best Buys price (20% coupon this week/2 free movies in store) or clearing stock for the 2 new pack-in movies that won't include '300'. Maybe CC is testing the waters for a lower price for Toshiba?

What we do know, however, is Toshiba is still making and selling HD DVD players, and Circuit City has more A3x on the way along with orders places for additional units, something the OP of the CC Clearance neglected (or maybe didn't know) posted.

Why for two January's in a row has Blu-Ray shown up with titles but not HD DVD?

There have been several significant DVD and Blu-Ray day and dates this January. The only truly slow day could be 1/1, and even then there were a few day and dates.

For all I know it's not a format thing. It could just be HD DVD's misfortune that the two studios backing them right now seem to hibernate this month.

Personally I don't give a shit what month it is - put the titles out. Gift cards from the holidays have IMO put a pretty good dent in the myth that people are licking their financial wounds from the holidays, and thus are not spending.

Good Luck Chuck = Lionsgate
3:10 to Yuma = Lionsgate
Saw IV = Lionsgate
Resident Evil = Sony

Last year I think it was also a majority of Lionsgate films in January/February.
Since I don't really know the theatrical release dates on these, I assume they were September/October (2 month cycle). I was pissed last year when Universal did this (and Warner and Paramount as well) and did not release anything but a handful of titles between January and March. I was hoping they wouldn't pull this crap again...but they did. The catalog titles on Blu-ray don't look that great either for the next few months, but they simply have more new releases. I don't see more then 3-4 new releases I will be buying in the next 3 months on both formats combined.

Here is last years Blu-ray schedule... A lot of Lionsgate and Sony new releases. Not much else from Fox, Disney, Paramount or Warner besides catalog releases.

* Casino Royale (Sony)
* The Holiday (2006) (Sony)
* Hoosiers (MGM)
* Layer Cake (Sony)

February 27, 2007

* Planet of the Apes (Fox)

You forgot about Shoot 'Em Up from New Line. That was 1/1. I think War was 1/1 as well - another Lionsgate.

And, if Uni and Paramount have no significant day and date titles, put out some more catalog titles. Actually that goes for all studios.

It's simple.

EDIT: You don't think the catalog titles look good for Blu in the next few months? I assume you mean according to your personal preference, because there are some great titles coming out. Most of them were just mentioned a page or two ago.

I personally can't wait to get my hands on Run Lola Run, Gattaca, ID4 and Unbreakable, Commando, Predator, Baron Munchausen, Life Of Brian, etc., etc.

Agreed. I don't understand why Jan-March is considered slow when more and more people every year are getting gift cards for Christmas/Holidays.

I don't really see that many title. All the ones you listed I have no interest in besides maybe Unbreakable which I have on SD that I have yet to ever watch. Ive looked over the list for both formats...its at 3-4 new releases through March.

For me its

King of California (HD DVD version)
American Gangster (maybe)
Beowulf (maybe)
Bee Movie
30 Days of Night
Dan in Real Life (maybe)
I am Legend (Prefer to wait for the HD DVD version, but all depends)
Walk Hard (maybe)

So 8 total. 4 For sure, 4 maybe. Not a single catalog title.

I'm in for:
Life of Brian
Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Unbreakable
I, Robot

These are really good catalog titles. I'm sure there are a few others I have missed that I will pick up. I'm hoping that ID4 will be revisitited somewhere down the road and then I will pick it up.

The catalog release announcements are pretty anemic for early to mid 08 (as far as what's been announced up to this point, that is). I guess it's ok for me since I just upgraded to Blu-ray, and I will have a chance to catch up because of it. Here is all I will be getting catalog-wise:

3/25: Bonnie & Clyde
5/6: Twister

Yep, that's it. I have never seen Life of Brian, though a stacked edition of it is a tempting blind buy. Still, I will probably just Netflix it. Other than that, I'm picking up new release stuff.

What are you guys looking to purchase that week? I'm personally looking at Hitman, ID4, I Robot, NCFOM, and Dogma.
Hitman, Gattaca and No Country For Old Men for me.

Mod Note: Even if you think a retailer clearing out HD DVDs is a good thing for Blu-ray, this isn't the place to discuss it. At the same time, the appropriate way to handle posts that are off topic is to bring them to a mod's attention instead of bashing or attacking the person who posted it. Now, unless Circuit City is planning to do something with their Blu-ray pricing, I don't want to see any more posts in here about them.

Harold and Kumar is getting re-released on DVD before the new movie comes out in April...no Blu-ray release though. Anyone know if Newline plans on releasing any catalog titles? So far the only one has been Pans...but even then it wasn't a very old release. I know we saw the "rumored" list due to the 7.1 soundtracks, but has there been any real news?

No real news, but I wasn't impressed by that list of 7.1 soundtracks if those indeed turn out to be their first non-Pan's wave of catalog releases. It's likely we won't be getting "LOTR" for a while if they plan on doing it right, but I would think releases like "Seven" and "Boogie Nights" could still be great sellers for them. I know I'd pick them both up!

I would certainly get those too, but bear in mind that for all we know LOTR could already be done WRT the sound mix. Speaking of Se7en, didn't they remix that when they did the DVD back in 2000? Or was that just 6.1?
