Nope, just composite... Monoprice cables should be fine. I just ordered a switch from them a couple days ago and they had a pretty good price on 6' and 3' HDMI cables in Cubby blue...:)

The Panasonic BD-30 can do something the PS3 cannot currently, which is bitstream DTS HD Master Audio. If you have a receiver that can decode all the lossless audio formats, the BD-30 is a perfect match.

Do you have the link for the Cubby blue ones? I know I'm lazy and dont feel like searching their site for the cables. For the PS3 do the HDMI make that much a difference over composite? I've heard different opions on them some say the HDMI make it look better others have said it doesnt make a difference really.

3 Ft. for $2.81 plus shipping.

Looks like the 6 footer went back up to $5.24.

Don't use composite. You could use the PS2 component cables, but it will be cheaper to get an HDMI off the net.

acubfaninmd 01-29-08 11:17 AM

Thank you for posting the link. I just need to figure how long of cable I need. I think the 3 ft should be fine.

Just a reminder that a composite connection will not pass HD signals. Component will (except for upconverting DVD's, which needs an HDMI connection).

So in order to get the full HD experience from a PS3 I would need to have the HDMI cables?

matome 01-29-08 11:45 AM

Depends if you want to upconvert regular DVD's to 720/1080 in the PS3 as well. If you do then you'll need to go HDMI, since copy protection of DVD limits upconversion through HDMI (this applies to regular upconverting DVD players as well). If you just want to watch Blu-Ray discs and play PS3 games in HD then you can go component cables. Your DVD's will just come out at the regualr 480p output.

No. In fact component gives you 480i too. Like you'd WANT that!

For sound however, the only way to get 7.1 surround is through HDMI. Optical is limited to 5.1.

Lost Season 3 on Blu-ray is number 1 on Amazon right now!

RichC2 01-29-08 04:13 PM

Well yeah, it's on sale.

You're still paying 40 bucks for it so it's not like it's a 10 dollar dvd or something.

RoboDad 01-29-08 04:27 PM

Either way, I got mine!

Just out of curiosity, why is it that every single piece of even remotely positive news for Blu-ray needs to be pounced upon and have attempts made to discredit it?

The mods are doing their best to control it but it seems like certain forum members really don't care about the rules.

Splitting off VOD and HD DVD player discussion definitely helped.

IMO the popularity of LOST S3 BD at Amazon shows that BD sales could and would stack up very well with SD when the prices come down a bit.

Got mine as well. No brainer at that price. Unopened SD of S3 goes back to Coscto.

Questions about the Blu-ray Lightning McQueen.

I'm a bit confused about this car. I ordered mine and received not one, but two of them this week. I assumed Disney was just trying to get rid of the things, but now I found out it is actually very sought after. First of all the car is not really blue it is purple (I can only assume Mr McQueen is format neutral) and second of all why the hell is this thing going for $30 on ebay?

If people really want the car that bad why don't they just buy the stupid movie and get it free? I find it hard to believe people will go through all the hassle of paying over $30 with the shipping just to not have to own the Blu-ray as well. Strange world we live in.

Right, I added to those BD players sales and I spent $0 on the player. Easy to boost sales when you start giving them away.

Damn, I shouldn't have thrown away that offer for the little Cars car. I thought the S/H being more than the car was worth killed the deal, but I didn't know they went for that kind of money on eBay.

I think everyone needs to lighten up.

Is it good that the set is #1 on Amazon? Yes. Is it #1 because it is such a steep price cut, a clearance as I have seen such price cuts called (though in this case, and most likely in the other, it is not clearance)? Yes.

I don't see anyone raining on a parade, or jumping on anything. Someone replied to someone else's comment. Don't want comments? Start a blog and shut off commenting.

You can be supportive AND critical of something at the same time. People need to understand that.

I'd also add that this, for the millionth time, is not the "Blu-Ray is the best thing since the wheel discussion thread." You may disagree with someone whose vision is the slightest bit less myopic as yours is, but that is not "against the rules."

Good question, but I doubt the guilty parties will own up to anything.

This is an excellent deal at such a price. I forgot to look to see what the SD set was going for. To get this on BD near the price of the SD set is quite a bargain.

I have no issue with $40 for a HD boxset. This is actually right in the ballpark I consider reasonable. It the movies are only $5 -$10 more than the DVD the TV box sets have no business being $50 - $60 more in some cases.

I agree.
