They ARE coming out separately on the same date, from what I last heard.

Anyone know if the extras on the European releases are also on the USA release?

Comparing one extras list I saw the Euro extras are missing from the USA disc and vice versa.

Please let it not be true.

Amazon Single Disc DB Link

Amazon also has the original movie available as a single BD for $19.95. It doesn't show up with a normal search though --I had to search using the UPC symbol.

I already got the single-disc release of the first movie from DVD Planet, but you have to search for it there - it wasn't listed in the BR section.

Can't wait to watch it tonight - glad I waited for the US version, new PIP extras plus all the old ones from the SE DVD.

Almost everything from the SE DVD. There are a few things missing, including the Basil Poledouris commentary and an extensive still gallery of production art and unused design concepts.

Has anyone's order from Amazon gone to at least "shipping soon" status?

That was going to be my question. What is missing from the previous special edition? Is it just the still gallery and one commentary track? If so, I'll probably buy it.
Also, how is the picture quality? The previous SE was supposed to be taken from an HD master so does this look significantly better? How does it compare to the UK release?

Pretty much agree with that review to a T - the grain is intact, great clarity and detail most of the time, rich colors and blacks. I noticed some slight EE here and there, but overall the picture was very solid and satisfying - lots of "wow" moments.

The audio wasn't as impressive, mainly due to it being overly quiet I thought, and slightly unbalanced at times. You can tell the dialogue has been boosted at times, and I didn't think the low-end was as punchy as I had hoped, but crank it up and it's pretty solid.

video: 4/5
audio: 3.5/5

The BD-Live feature didn't work yet, but watched some of the FedNet commentary PIP track. I enjoy these about HD discs, but this one they put a stupid frame around the entire picture to make you think you're watching on a t.v. screen, which you are already. And the commentary pop-ups weren't very frequent, so I didn't watch the whole thing. Always fun to listen to Verhoeven though... "they are young, and beautiful, and they'll never die...but they die!" lol

Didn't want watch too many other SD extras because they play in some f'd-up aspect ratio anyway on the PS3, and I've seen them all on the standard disc. Overall very pleased and the disc lives up to my long anticipation. This movie seems even more relevant now than when it came out a decade ago.

The frame is designed to look like the "Would You Like to Know More?" FedNet broadcasts in the movie.

What needed to be corrected? I have the BD and didn't notice anything wrong with it.

Apparently there is a repeating shot during one of the bug attacks that was not there originally. One of those things you might not notice if you didn't know about it... Sony actually has a replacement mail-in offer, but I was hoping to bypass that if they just started sending out shipments of the corrected discs. Unfortunately there is no indication on the cover between the two versions, otherwise I'd look for it in stores...

It's actually 7 seconds of footage that repeats. Several shots are involved. The soundtrack is correct, but instead of the shots we're supposed to see, repeated footage plays instead.

It's a subtle problem, and I didn't even notice it until it was pointed out to me, but it's definitely an error.

Especially since recent reports are that some of the replacement copies are still defective.

Re: Starship troopers bluray??

Oh, I noticed that. I assumed it was a blooper that was always there and I never noticed before.

So where can I get the address for the mail in replacement?

You need to have a USB stick in the back and turn on BD Live, even if its not hooked up for it. That's how I got it to play on mine.

This is only a requirement on Sony players?

Also, does anyone know the timecode of the visual error? I want to check my disc.

Any USB stick or is it a proprietary one?

It's a requirement on any BD-Live capable player that doesn't have internal memory built in (like the PS3 does). Some use a USB hub for this, some require an SD card.

You may need to consult your manual, but I suspect any USB stick will do.

The time codes and a description of the footage are detailed in the Video section here:

I wrote "Starship Troopers Blu-ray Error" in the subject line of my email, and they responded with instructions for the exchange.
