I worry because its very thin and likely to get damaged in shipping. I could poke a hole right through the case!

I absolutely agree with and share that concern. What that has to do with recycled materials (other than the cut-out pattern on the front face), I have no idea. If you can somehow tell that the plastic is recycled and somehow convince me that that makes it inferior in some way, I'll be mightily impressed.

I would say its recycled because of the giant RECYCLED logo on the case. And reports already show it being flimsy and with holes in the plastic there is a greater chance of the artwork and disc being damaged (which is my concern). Excuse me why I go dump oil down the sewer drains and throw my can of Pepsi in the garbage - no recycling for this guy!

I guess you didn't read my reply. As I asked, what does any of that have to do with being made of recycled plastic? A recycling logo can be cut out of any kind of plastic and I agree with you that it's a questionable idea for a Blu-ray case. The material itself, though, bothers you how?

Re: Silence of the Lambs Blu-Ray?

Got mine from DVDEmpire yesterday and I'm happy with it. The transfer is not Crank-like to be sure but it looked pretty good with close-ups showing the most detail. Didn't seem to notice too much smoothing and there is grain present in some shots. I always preferred the darker and more muted Criterion transfer, so I'll have to get used to this a little more since it uses the new, brighter transfers and the colors are a bit more pronounced. Sound was fine as well. Didn't check the extras.

My S550 showed this as being MPEG, for those wondering.

DVDBeaver had this review posted last week I believe.

I complained about the packaging garbage on standard DVDs here: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk-co...-nonsense.html but I think it's even dumber on first-run Blu-Rays. I mean, The Punisher has been out for several years now, and I can see why a little cost-cutting in order, but this is just hitting shelves!

Yeah, I was just gonna comment that I saw this for $45 at BB - that has to be a mistake, right?

Yes it is. Best Buy will be correcting this shortly.

This should be $24.99 at Target, if your store carries it.

I second this. Thought it looked fine on my 61" DLP. Not outstanding, but it had plenty of detail, some grain, and I also didn't notice a terrible amount of smoothing, or at least wasn't bothered by it. Personally, I wouldn't not purchase it based on what's been said about the picture issues.

If this is a trend for blu-ray, it may be time to stock up on extra cases. I could see someone (the wife) holding the case too firmly and damaging the slipcover.

Yet another concern for those who are anal about their dvd/blu-ray collections.

Re: Silence of the Lambs Blu-Ray?

The tragedy of this whole packaging issue is rather than getting people to use things with less plastic it will actually cause a lot of consumers to replace the pos case they gave us with another one. This will actually cause double the waste than it would had they gave us at least a decent case in the first place. I picked to up today and thought I was going to bend it in half.

The other thing, is if these get gripped tightly or squeezed you're going to get an impression of the recycling symbol or the trivial persuit wheel in the paper insert. Not good.

Re: Silence of the Lambs Blu-Ray?

That case sucks. They should have only used that case for the suckers that bought this at Best Buy for $45.

Re: Silence of the Lambs Blu-Ray?

If you want this now, go to Best Buy. I stopped in after work and they had 8 copies. All were incorrectly tagged at $44.99, but the movie rings up $24.99.

Got mine in the mail today, thankfully arrived in good shape. It'll be safe and sound on my shelf, but yeah I definitely prefer any of the other BD cases. Guess I'll be ordering some...

Personally I trust myself with the case it isn't THAT flimsey, but it was filmsey enough that I changed it out with one of a couple random extra blu-ray cases I have. I can totally see something puncturing a hole right through that baby and getting the disc.
