What is this The Punisher nonsense?

I bought The Punisher cause it was on sale at Best Buy and the case looked like this:

I call shenanigans. I'm all for recycling, but I'm not quite sure what doing this achieves other than totally lowering the integrity of the case. A bad encounter with like a rod or a pencil would seriously ruin the packaging.

WTF indeed!
There must be a rule about Punisher releases having awful packaging, have you seen the retarded packaging for the Extended Edition?

I actually got both the TC and the EC, they were both on sale. the TC came in the above case, the EC came in standard Amaray packaging -- the digipak version was apparently first-run only.

I got a case like that when I bought Bandidas at Walmart and some other movies at Target. I think I have about 4 cases like that. Odd.

Haha, what an idea of cutting down on the use of polypropylene plastic.

With the cover art in place though, it wouldn't look half as obvious or bad.

I discovered this with Bandidas last night when I got home with it, too. Since I don't expect the DVD to be handled by anyone under the age of three, I don't anticipate any issues.

That's messed up. I'm all for costcutting, but packaging's number one feature has to be that it packages, ie, protects and contains, the item within. Not only can the disk easily get scratched, but the cover art itself could get a hole poked in it or something.
And it's not like DVD cases are like soft drink cans and meant to be disposed of that often.
A thinpak case I could see, but that's just inane.

You forgot to ask what's with the wrong forum as well -- should be in Covers & Cases.

I've never gotten any of those cases, but I hate the recent trend of using the clear hard plastic keepcases with the flimsiest outer jacket ever.

I don't like that case at all.

My Incredible Hulk 1 disc was like this too, or at least similar.

My copy of Bad Lieutenant is the same. I'm all for reducing/recycling too, but this makes the case ultra cheap, and easy to poke a hole in the cover art. And since they are saving money, the savings should be passed onto the consumer, but that will never happen. BOO

First, I agree that this case sucks, but I hate all DVD cases. I think you'd have to try to purposely poke a hole in it so that wouldn't be my worry. I'd be more concerned that it would be easier to pop the disc off the hub causing floaters with the result being more scratched up discs.

I'm starting to really grow disappointed in DVD companies forcing this kind of crap down our throats. There's not a single 'cost efficient' or 'green' package that I've seen as of yet, that doesn't ruin the integrity of the discs, or at least run the risk of doing so. FOX has really gone too far with their Futurama pacakagings, as well as the latest season of The Simpsons. It's nice there's still at least a hub here, but a disc could get damaged.

I got a case just like that (first time I had seen one also) with The Ringer, that I purchased from walmart for $5.

I guess it did not bother me much but that was probably because it came with an insert and slip cover so I cant even see it unless I remove the insert or the disc.
