I'm not sure what to make of all this but they are all Fox titles. Don't know if they are having problems, or if they just want to delay some titles.

Personally, I'm only disappointed about The Fly, but hopefully they're delaying all of these to reconsider their extras policies (which seems to be that they'll usually only include extras that are in 1080p, a la The Sentinel). As Fox/MGM seems to be the sole major studio(s) to release completely bare bones discs, perhaps they've seen the error of their ways.
I'm not against extras being in 1080p, but only when it doesn't preclude including SD extras on the disc, too.

For the theater, I would probably have preferred the rated, but for home viewing, I dont mind the longer run time for the additional funny scenes.

Though I think it is safe to say that Futureshop's website runs a strong possibility of being wrong, due to 1-2 incorrect dates and titles being posted in the past few months, they have added some titles to their HD-dvd preorder list. At the least maybe they will give us some hints at upcoming titles.
Meet Joe Black - Feb 13
Blood Diamond - Mar 20
Darkman: HD/dvd combo - Mar 27
Smokey and the Bandits - Mar 27
A Scanner Darkly - Apr 3
Dog Day Afternoon - Apr 3
The Matrix - Apr 10
Matrix Revolutions - Apr 10
West Wing: Season 7 - June 5
Singin' in the Rain - Dec 4

Darkman?! I'd buy that. I'll definitely take Dog Day Afternoon and the Matrix movies, too. But given that February 13th is this coming Tuesday, I'm already questioning this list. Still, it at least gives us more of an idea of what's probably coming (since, while they were wrong about Brazil being January 30th, they were right about it actually coming).

I have real doubts about the release date of the Matrix movies. Warner will pump up the publicity machine for those releases, and they are only two months away.
I'd like to see Darkman in HD. It's an underrated sci-fi movie.

Fox has cancelled/indefinitely postponed the following releases:
Turistas
Commando
Dodgeball
Ice Age
Dude, Where's My Car?
The Fly
Tristan & Isodale
The only reason given was "unforseen technical difficulties".

Yeah, if true, maybe they indeed are adding extras and/or putting them on BD50's. Too bad, I was waiting for Commando to replace my crappy SD. Or maybe just move those away from Casino Royale's release date.

If I'm not mistaken, in addition to being the worst at providing special features, Fox/MGM has been the studio with the most cancellations and/or delays. There are these seven, a month-long delay for Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, an indefinite delay for Princess Bride, going all the way back to Robocop (which, granted, probably shouldn't have been released as it was).
I'm hoping that all of these delays are because they want to do a better job with their discs (new masters, new encodes, more features, etc.). I'm quite curious as to what those "unavoidable technical difficulties" are.

Well, Fox is definitely doing some retooling here. I just got delay/cancellation emails from DVDEmpire for Commando, Turistas and also Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. Looks like they may indeed be adding features/BD50s/changing codecs (Mr. & Mrs. Smith is still on, which is AVC on BD50 with extras).

I don't know why they'd be delaying Commando for this reason though. The original DVD only had the trailer.

On Fox, they have begun selecting titles to begin using BD+. It is possible that the titles delayed were not yet into replication process and they decided to pull them. We'll have to wait and see.
