Yep, just another example where it's no big deal when the HD version leaves off any SD extras... IF you've already got the SDs.
In this case, I also recommend the Complete Matrix Set.

Didn't see this posted yet, but XBOX Live will allow Matrix HD-DVD buyers to download the Animatrix Free!

That site doesn't mention whether or not the Animatrix download will be in HD. Since it's only for people who buy the Complete set, and not the Ultimate set, I'm guessing it's in SD.

Patman, I totally agree. I DESPISE double sided disks - for many reasons. I also think that it would be prone to scratches/damage far more than single sided... Double sided HD/BR discs are enough to turn me off from buying into this technology!

I think someone over at AVS confirmed only the movies are in HD, all of the extra content is SD on the Ultimate set too. From what I've read the download is SD only, but would be the same in the box set.

The IME is great; every time Carrie-Anne Moss thanks "the brothers," I laugh and think of Zoolander's eulogy.

And how about the revelation that Switch was originally going to be a dude in the real world and a girl in the matrix? Provides some context for the Wachowski cross dressing shenanigans.

Yes, the IMEs ARE great, assuming you're not familar with all the bonus material from the Ultimate Collection...I don't think there's one bit of footage that isn't taken from the bonus material in the Ultimate Collection. Shame they couldn't get any new interviews/footage for this release, but I'm guessing they pretty much used everything they had in storage for that Ultimate release.

Remind me...which installment was Switch in and what was the character?

Also, the Matrix creators were cross-dressers? LOL! Didn't hear of this. What's that all about?

Nevermind. Found this blurb on wikipedia...

Lana Wachowski

Shortly after the release of Matrix Reloaded, Larry Wachowski began to make small public appearances dressed as a woman and going by Lana Wachowski. [2] In his column, published May 30, 2003, David Poland said "Every indication I have says that Larry Wachowski is now in the process of changing his sex. Dressing in public like a woman, taking female hormones and yes, having a sex change operation."[3][4] However, since then many sources have called this into question stating that he is merely a cross dresser and not a transsexual[1].

In March 2006, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in an article on transgender people, that Larry Wachowski "has changed his sex and is now living as Lana Wachowski".

I've bold faced the "Irony of the Year" statement above.

She was also the only member of Morpheus' crew to dress all in white while in the Matrix. The only time she was dressed in black was when they took Neo to meet Morpheus for the first time.

Well, I take that back. I broke down and had a last-minute change of heart. With only a $9 difference between the two sets at Amazon, I changed my order to the Ultimate set and will sell off the DVD box.

Got a chance to watch The Matrix last night. Very nice PQ and AQ. I think the last time I saw it was six years ago on SD DVD on a tiny 27 inch TV, so seeing it on a big screen on HD DVD was a treat!

I thought the "Complete" (three disc) set package was very attractive. Good job by WHV.

So for the first Matrix film, are ALL the commentaries included? The ones from the SD Ultimate Collection AND the ones from the original release (Moss)?

Just curious....has anyone gone into Walmart to see if they have the Matrix set and at what price? When the Mission: Impossible set was released, they were selling them for $59.99. I'm wondering if the Matrix set would be the same price.

Simply amazing. HD DVD could vanish tomorrow and it would be worth every penny I have spent. I got the same feeling tonight I did the first time I watched the Matrix on DVD. I have some awesome disc on both formats, but it felt like this one took it to a new level. I am partial to the movie, which probably helps, but it was really amazing - Warner did a great job. I will try to squeeze in the sequals over the next couple days.

Okay, so I have heard around here that The Matrix was re-tinted green for the "in Matrix" scenes after the release of the other two movies. However, on the IME, a lot of people involved with the movie talk about how the movie was always tinted green. It's been years since I've watched The Matrix on DVD and I don't have right now to compare to the HD DVD, but who is correct? Was the DVD (and HD DVD) retinted? If so, I guess the IME has some revisionist history in it. If it's always been tinted green, I'd like to know as well, so I can put those rumors to bed about retinting. Thanks.

I remember the original DVD definitely being tinted green for the scenes in the matrix. I never bought the re-release for some reason, so I can't compare, but I believe with the remaster they may have toned down the green tint some to make it less saturated. That may be what they mean by "re-tinting."

Hmmm, don't like double-sided, but since the only Matrix I own is the first release of the first movie, guess I should go for the ultimate.

The retint was a harsher tint.
