Face/Off and Jack Ryan Collection Delayed
Posted August 16, 2007 by Josh

Paramount Home Entertainment has updated their release schedule, and two upcoming titles have been delayed into October. The John Woo action film 'Face/Off' has been delayed from September 11th to October 30th. Also, an interesting note, the "2-disc" verbiage has been removed from the cover, though no specs have changed. The upcoming 'Jack Ryan Collection' has also been delayed, from September 25th to October 23rd. No specs have been changed.

Releasing an action movie on Sept. 11 just seems extremely tacky.

So Jack Ryan will now be out the same day as all the Kubrick HD releases. Damn - expensive day.

Can anyone find out if Face/Off features a LOSSLESS audio track now? If so, i will stop considering the import with the Lossless audio track.

Why? Are we going to cry about 911 for the rest of our lives? Should we not release action films on Dec 7th? Or Nov 22nd?

I always thought it was in bad taste to release the T2 Ultimate Edition DVD on August 29.

While *I* don't think its tacky to release them on that date, I do instantly think of that event when I see that release date, so for some, I can see it being an issue. I do not think it will hurt sales or anything.

I do not instantly think of Pearl Harbor for 12/7.

I'm not even going to check a calander here but I assume September 11th is a Tuesday, so why shouldn't an action movie be released on that day? It's not like it's Collateral Damage or anything, where Schwarz is battling terrorists. It's a John Woo action film, big whoop.

I do. But, then, I am fifth generation Hawaiian born and the attacking planes flew right over my father's house in 1941.

The sensitivity to the 9/11 date will fade with time. For now, it doesn't harm anybody to delay the release of DVDs to another date.

Reminds me of this classic Onion article:
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/27728

HOBOKEN, NJ—In what threatens to be an annual ritual, Rob Bachman, born Sept. 11, 1973, braced himself Tuesday for yet another birthday ruined by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"My birthday's gonna suck for the rest of my life," Bachman said on the eve of his 29th birthday. "Every year, I'm going to want to go out and have fun, but it's always going to be inappropriate in light of the meaning of this most tragic of days."

There are a number of titles coming out on 9/11 that might be considered in poor taste. Here are just a few:

I particulary cringe at the "Jeese James: Terrorist" one...

Can we get off of this rediculous tangent and focus on the new releases. Every day of the year has some kind of meaning. I say let's not release any DVD that has another animal in it on February 2nd because it will upstage the groundhog.

Please, let's move on!

I wonder if this will be a huge seller on Blu-Ray. Its predecessor, from what I understand, did gangbusters on home video and last Friday's airing on the Disney Channel broke a cable record for most viewers.

Something like 80% of all girls aged 6 to 11 were watching HSM2 on Friday night.

It says A Mighty Heart will have a PCM track. Has any other movies on HD DVD been given a PCM mix?

English Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround
English SDH and French subtitles
Audio Commentary with Director Joe Wright

Any new SF on P&P? My wife loves the movie, but no purpose in upgrading if there isn't anything extra or new HD extras.

Yeah, my fiance' loves that movie too. I actually enjoyed it when I watched it. When she watched the 5 hour A&E version, I fell asleep.

Ill definately get this one for her. Im not too impressed with video quality of the standard def version.

This was because of Paramount's pending decision to go exclusively HD-DVD with their entire non-Spielberg catalog. There will be no BD version of Face/Off or any of the Jack Ryan flicks.
