So, reading through AVS, sounds like the PS3 plays BD's just about as well as anything else, except you can't use a remote, of course. The big problems seem to be locking up (which the PS3 demo in our store does several times a day) and HDMI handshake issues. It seems like a YMMV scenario, if you can find one, that is.

and don't forget PS3 will NOT put out analog - you have to use digital. And it doesn't upconvert standard DVDs.

The first limitation rules me out - neither my receiver nor my TV has those kind of inputs.

How often is it locking up?

The one in our store? Usually twice a day. So once every 4.5 hours, on average.

My Kingdom of Heaven problems may be solved permanently, I hope. Strangely enough, I had been using Monster component cables and during the first 10 minutes, I had the greenish tint come in and out of the picture. So I switched out that cable with the cheap one that came with the Sammy and replayed the same scenes and no green tint effect. I hope I don't encounter that again.

I found 8 so far (1 60gb and 7 20gb).

I might be in the BD game next week if I keep one. Though, the playback issues arent adding to my confidence. Both of my hdmi connections are taken up, so id be using component. Any known issues with PS3 BD playback via component versus HDMI??

EDIT: Shopping on Amazon, I found 2 titles that I would purchase (Speed and BHD)....Ill probably wait a bit. I would preorder Talladega and The Descent probably.

The only handshake issue I read was with the Westinghouse. I think that may be something with the quality of the hardware in the TV than with the hardware in the PS3. As for the lock-ups, that does seem to be a potential issue. But if you are seeing it do that every 4.5 hours, that's not bad at all for movie viewing purposes.

I'll have to run a stress test on my panny to see if I get any hick-ups. I honestly don't know if it would have any problems playing movies for that long.

Home Theater Spot on the latest releases:

X-men 3: Video 5/5 Audio 5/5
LXG: Video 4.5/5 Audio 5/5
Kiss of the Dragon: Video 1.5/5 Audio 3.5/5
Behind Enemy Lines: Video 4/5 Audio 5/5
Under Siege: Video 3.5/5 Audio 4/5
Unforgiven: Video 3/5 Audio 4/5
The Searchers: Video 4.5/5 Audio 3.5/5
Sky High: Video 4.5/5 Audio 4.5/5
The Omen: Video 5/5 Audio 5/5

Besides Kiss of the Dragon, it looks like Fox hit some homeruns. Disney also did well, with Warner putting out some average releases. After comparing Chad's The Omen review with the one over at High Def Digest, I don't think I'll be giving HDD reviews so much weight anymore.

I have all of those except The Searchers, LXG and Behind Enemy Lines. I pretty much agree on all those (haven't gotten Sky High yet), though I would switch the video ratings on Under Siege and Unforgiven for sure. Kiss Of The Dragon would get a 3 video and a 4 audio from me as well.

What a friggin' shock. You only listen to reviews that tell you what you want to hear. How is this a change in your stance?

What an ignorant statement. I listen to reviews that reflect my own viewing experience. That is what everyone should do in order to accurately gauge how they will enjoy a disc. To think otherwise is blatantly retarded.

That is a kind of silly thing to say. If the majority of reviews contradict Hidefdigest, then I too would be sceptical of them, but I don't think that is the case. There are a large number of reasons that those two reviews could have such different opinions, HDD having inaccurate reviews probably is not one of them.

This is true, but I'd still like to know what X-Men: The Last Stand disc HDD reviewed that didn't have pop-up menus and HD extras.

I never said they were inaccurate, just that they don't reflect my opinion on the discs I have seen, and that is why I won't be giving them as much weight. The Omen just being the latest in a string of review differences.

For those who get HDNet, there's a Blu-ray promo in pretty heavy rotation right now. (And in high definition, naturally.)

Good to hear. Are they including any clips of movies which aren't announced yet by chance?

Nothing unannounced that I recognized. The only clip I remember straight off the top of my head was Superman Returns. They had something with a bunch of World War II-era (I think?) airplanes, and that may have been Sky Captain.

Or what copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that didn't have the Burton commentary track.

I haven't seen the promo, but could the airplane thing have been Flyboys?

Could be. I'll see if I can dig up a clip of the ad from someplace.
