Damn, that's a nice price. If I didn't have the A1, I'd order right now, but I think I can wait a few more months for further reductions. Wonder how many months it'll be before a BD standalone player reaches sub 400 prices.

Sony already said: 2-3 years

This is a brand new Toshiba. There's absolutely no reason to think that there will suddenly be a price drop to under $400 with any of the current BD players.

Once those sub $300 Chinese HD DVD players start showing up in stores, people will start running out of excuses for not getting one. That's not a big investment, especially if you've already dropped $1000+ on a HDTV set, which more and more people are doing. I do like the aggressive player pricing by the HD DVD camp.

For those interested, Second Act has the Samsung player for $500. You can use the $25 coupon plus sign up through ******** to get another 4% off ($19).

To buy 1 movie?

No thank you.

It'd be nice for rentals.

BD needs to shape up on the extras/pricing. Otherwise, if I do take the plunge, I'm going to be ripping all the extras from the official discs to DVD-R and have no guilty feelings about it.

If you had to email Amazon to add the 10% for The Departed(HD-DVD) you might receive this email:
Greetings from Amazon.com.

We're writing about your order for the item listed below:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Departed (Combo Standard DVD and HD DVD) [HD DVD]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A Customer Service Associate recently promised you a specific price
for this item. Unfortunately, recent changes to our pricing software
will not recognize the price offered. As a result, your order will
ship at the lowest price posted on Amazon.com when it becomes
available. This price will most likely be higher than the price you
were promised.

In an effort to compensate you for the price increase, we would like
to offer you a $5.00 promotional gift certificate good towards
your next purchase at Amazon.com.

We are very sorry for this inconvenience and hope that you will accept
this promotional gift certificate as a gesture of goodwill.

Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com.

Just reorder it for $20.15.

Should we be concerned that the price is dropping like a rock?

The opposite, I'd imagine. It could encourage more people to adopt the format! No matter the initial cost, HD-DVD is still a bargain considering I paid $1500 for my first DVD player!

Then it's not through Amazon.

And the prices on non-Toshiba players (once they come out) will be even lower.

I'm very concerned. At this rate, I might be tempted to get a 2nd HD-DVD player once the price approaches 300 bucks.

When?

I plan on having a HD DVD player by june 1, so if something cool is coming out before then, I have no problems waiting for it.

Amazon finally dropped Clerks II to $19.95 which makes it $17.95 with the 10% discount. I went ahead and ordered it today. Can't watch it on anything for awhile, but at least I'll have it.

Does that include the Houston area? I'm pick a few of those up if that's the case.

hdmoviesource has The Departed (HD) for $29.99. Use the new10 coupon and end up with the title for $29.49 shipped. Not too shabby. And he typically delivers the title day of or before

The Departed (BR) is $27.49 and ends up being around $27 shipped.

$25.16 shipped from amazon assuming you have the 10% off going, still only $27.95 without the discount. The BD version is only $23.95 (21.56 with discount) but you would need prime or have to pay for shipping.
