I'm surprised digi didn't want any of those titles.

I'm very likely going to pick up all four of them. Good to hear they are going into their more interesting catalog titles and not just releasing Patch Adams or The Mummy.

Even though The Thing and Army of Darkness are now 2 of Universal's HD releases for the Halloween, I still have hopes that Dawn of the Dead '04 will also sneak in there.

At the moment? Probably V for Vendetta. Hell, I'll take Batman or T3 as well. Charlie and Choc. Factory. I guess it seems like most of the speculated/announced titles that I'm even interested in are WB movies. Not even remotely interested in any of the Paramount movies except for Black Rain.

Again, funny that i'm such a huge supporter of a format that's not really releasing movies that I'd consider buying.

Count me in for a copy of Dawn of The Dead '04 if it gets released this year. I have been playing Dead Rising for the past week and it has really gotten me in the mood for watching this movie again.

candyrocket786 08-15-06 09:42 AM

I'll take The Thing

The Thing is one of my all time favorites. Can't wait to see it in HD!

And yes, I'm also anticipating V: I *ALMOST* bought the regular DVD today but I must wait.

Excited about 12 Monkeys, though something tells me that it's going to be one of those "controversial" transfers, a la Sleepy Hollow. Still, I bet it'll look as intended, and I'm really looking forward to it. Might also get Out of Sight, too.

I'm surprised we're not getting Scarface in October, what with the new "Deluxe" edition on DVD. Still, thanks, Universal!

Me too. All 4 will be mine, but The Thing is the show-stopper here!!!

wewantflair 08-15-06 01:13 PM

Damn...Universal will bankrupt me yet. In for all 4. Hell, I'm in for just about all of their pre-orders.

Eric D. 08-15-06 02:31 PM

I'm down for all four. Fantastic news!!!!

danio 08-15-06 02:55 PM

I'm not drawn to any of the latest 4 titles from Universal - has anyone heard if 'United 93' will be released on HD-DVD; I've not purchased it yet... hoping for a HD release.

That's one I'd love.

From The Blu Bits:

One last high-def note today. Paramount informed us this morning that the M:i:III HD format spec list they sent us, which we posted yesterday, contained a couple of errors. The Inside the IMF featurette is in standard definition video, not high-def, on both HD versions. Also, the audio on the Blu-ray Disc will be Dolby Digital, while the audio on the HD-DVD will be Dolby Digital Plus. We've updated the spec list below. Adjust your purchase plans accordingly.

I'll probably be picking up all of them.

BTW, I'd bet good money The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Scorpion King will be available on HD-dvd within the next year. Great looking D-VHS titles that Universal loves to use to show off as eye candy. Add that to the fact that they also seem to have a thing for releasing movies featuring The Rock.

Mr. Cinema 08-15-06 05:41 PM

I'm sure The Mummy will be out before year's end.

MichaelMeyers 08-15-06 08:05 PM

I'll definitely be picking up the Thing, Out of Sight and 12 Monkeys...October is really turning out to be a good month for HD-DVD releases.

I am buying ALL of those! Oh hell yes! Spartacus should look AMAZING in HD!

Cinemaddiction 08-15-06 09:54 PM

I sold my SD versions of "12 Monkeys" and "The Thing" about a month ago in anticipation. Glad I won't have to wait long!

digitalfreaknyc 08-16-06 08:55 AM

Spartacus is, thus far, the longest movie released on HD DVD, no? Should be interesting to see the quality and reviews.

It should be fine. If Firewall (105 min) can fit on 15GB with three DD+ tracks, Spartacus (no more than 198 min) can fit on 30GB.

I don't doubt it. But it will be nice to get some of the skeptics to shut the fuck up. :)

Yes, but it will also be interesting to see the size (if possible) since its the only one of that bunch without TruHD sound. I hope that they didnt run out of room.
