On the high-def front, it looks like Image Entertainment is going to be releasing its first titles on the HD-DVD format on 11/7 (SRP $24.99 each). All three are music releases, including Barry Manilow: Manilow Live!, Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire: Live at the Greek and Heart: Alive in Seattle.

I think you'll find that most older movies won't have DolbyTruHD 5.1 because they were done in mono or stereo sound, so any 5.1 mix is going to be artificial, and if it's already artificial, the studio isn't going to bother with making it lossless because that will make it sound even MORE artificial.

...and Eagle Rock is releasing The Pat Metheny Group: The Way Up on Oct. 3rd on DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray, beating Paramount to the trifecta-punch. $24.98 MSRP for the high-def versions.

Warner Bros announces September 12th releases:
Troy
Space Cowboys
Lethal Weapon 2
House of Wax

I'll definitely be picking up Troy. Glad to see they are following up with Lethal Weapon 2, hopefully the other two will be out by the end of the year.

HighDefDigest

Warner Home Video has just announced its next batch of HD DVD releases, led by the blockbusters 'Troy,' 'Space Cowboys,' 'Lethal Weapon 2' and the Paris Hilton horror hit 'House of Wax.'

Due in stores on September 12, all four titles will be presented in their original aspect ratios and 1080p video, with Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround audio and English, French and Spanish subtitles.

I just noticed that Grubert hasn't updated the main post in almost a month, anyone know if he has plans to continue updating it?

Mr. Cinema 08-17-06 05:48 AM

Finally some new Warner announcements. But I'll just get Troy and House of Wax from that list.

digitalfreaknyc 08-17-06 08:26 AM

Finally...a movie I'd want. Lethal Weapon 2.

From AVS:

I'm going to be offline for several weeks, so I won't be able to update this thread or the release calendar. I'll do a massive update in late August.

Maxflier 08-17-06 08:41 AM

It's about goddamn time they put Troy out!
Count me in for that and House of Wax. Might pick up Space Cowboys too.

digitalfreaknyc 08-17-06 09:23 AM

Troy will have TrueHD.

candyrocket786 08-17-06 09:30 AM

Troy and Lethal will be mine.

Drexl 08-17-06 10:05 AM

I guess that Mel Gibson controversy isn't affecting the release of titles with him after all. Maybe we will get Braveheart soon.

I never thought that would affect anything. I second the idea that the Braveheart commentary is quite possibly the most boring ever recorded.

Does Gibson comment on his homophobia or does he completely ignore it...until he gets drunk? ;) Perhaps we should have "sober mel" and "drunk mel" commentaries for all his movies :)

Me too, keep 'em coming!

Adam,

I agree with your assessment of what titles should get their own thread. I can see how someone would want any title to gets its own thread like they do in the dvd talk section, but alot of these releases are dvd retreads. Superman Returns is definitely a great example of a title that would need its own thread for discussion.

hahahha... And now I'm actually picking something up that week. :) But I wouldn't count LW2 as one of the "biggies" that i'm excited about. It's just another one that I'll pick up.

danio 08-17-06 05:26 PM

'Troy' will be mightly tempting... more day and date items would be welcome though...

Supermallet 08-17-06 08:14 PM

I'll pick up LW2. No interest in Troy or Space Cowboys. As for House of Wax...well, let's just say, if it doesn't have Vincent Price, then it's dead to me.

MichaelMeyers 08-17-06 09:10 PM

I'll be picking up Lethal Weapon 2 and Troy

bboisvert 08-18-06 01:51 PM

I'm still excited about the previous Universal announcement of The Thing and 12 Monkeys... but those 4 Warner titles do nothing for me.

Mr. Cinema 08-18-06 02:28 PM

FYI, my local Best Buy had The Bone Collector out early. I picked it up today. Haven't watched it yet. I know it's a classic, so I'm giving some of you the heads up.
