Good explanation of what I'm talking about here:
Was the DVD-Forum right?

Sony argued that the mpeg2 codec was mature and switching codec would not be required. The BD provided such capacity and would allow movies to be encoded with current software. AOC with it's lower capacity would not be able to use mpeg2 and maintain a high PQ, however Toshiba argued that newer codec like H.264 were about 2X as efficent and combining a higher capacity disk with H.264 would allow for a high resolution image.

Ironically, HD DVD is the forward thinker here.

While Sony has made a lot of mistakes lately, I'll still give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they really did think that BD would be superior at the time, and didn't do it just for pure profit.

Also, I lost all hope for a fair article the second this obvious faker said that Blu Ray is better known as BD-DVD. I love how he spews this shit about the "test equipment." I would bet $50 he just made shit up from what he's read or was fed by Sony.

Interesting post/rumor:
http://www.hddvd.org/messageboard/to...0733387ed8cbce
"Holy crud, that reminds me! Totally forgot to post this. Last week I had lunch with a buddy of mine who works at a DVD authoring house. He knew I had just gotten an HD player (and was the only person in the building who owned one apparently), so he took me on a quick tour of HD DVD authoring and their Blu-Ray department. The HD DVD group looked busy, but I was told they weren't having too many problems. However, in the room where they were working on an upcoming Blu-Ray title, it was a different story. He poked his head in, said "You guys alright?" A short grunt was the only reply from the room, at which point my friend said, "Yeah, they're having lots of problems with Blu-Ray. No one here likes it."
I'm not sure what any of that might mean, only that this particular authoring house prefers HD DVD to Blu-Ray... I was even told they were thinking about not taking on too many Blu-Ray titles, as it was slowing everything down.
Take it how you will."

So I have to ask, is anything written in these magazines and newspapers true? If they don't do real research on something as basic as HD DVD should I expect them to do any fact checking on the stuff going on in Iraq?
These "journalists" are either lazy, corrupt or both.

You've just learned one of the scary truths of life.
Every time there's a newspaper article (or, dear lord, one of those 3-minute local news segments) on a topic I know well, I can GUARANTEE you that they'll get something completely wrong. Plus, they'll exaggerate a point, or ignore a crucial counter point, or otherwise slant a story so that it doesn't represent anything near what I know is true.
And, every time, I think exactly what you do... if they always get stuff wrong that I know about, why do I blindly trust them about things that I don't know about? I look at EVERYTHING critically now.

Someone on AVS made a good point...
What if it's the discs making BD look bad? Is that even possible? I'm saying...not the player...not the encoding...but the discs? I wouldn't think so since it's just a digital media.
