Ok, there are 3 menu shots: the first from House of Flying Daggers and the 3rd from XXX. What's the 2nd one from?

oh you're right - whoops! It does look like 'Robocop' - but don't quote me...

candyrocket786 06-19-06 02:45 PM

The second is Robocop.

The disc showed demo menus from HOFD, Robo and XXX.

It's an SD-DVD. does it matter? :)

That's pretty much what I thought when I watched it.

Overall... it was just a flashy promo showing various scenes (and menus) from future Blu-ray films.

Though... it wouldn't surprise me if certain format supporters start claiming the disc displayed "real HD content" rotfl

I was highly disappointed in the cc promo dvd. I was all psyched to get it then it just turned out to be a bunch of fluff crap. I was expecting something more substantial about bluray, like a 10-15 minute thing where they actually talk about it. I mean wtf good is it to show scenes from movies on a regular dvd? It's not like you can see the quality. The only good thing was that they showed the new menu system.

With how quickly things are changing for BD, I'm not sure they have 15 minutes of absolute truths to talk about.

I wish I were kidding.

at this point, I think BR is just throwing anything to the public to get some footholding into the HiDef market - this unfortunately is not the best way IMO.

Ditto.

I was expecting the video to show interviews with a panel of experts that would try to convince me to spend $1k on the system.

I completely agree. But the problem is that their story is changing minute to minute. I don't know if they know how to put anything out that's not a press release mentioning how the HD revolution doesn't start until they say it does.

and as I see, their inconsistencies are going to bite them in the ass - they seem to think that PS3 will be the saviour for Sony and BR - but they aint' happening soon either - the revolution started with WB and HD-DVD's - Sony's inconsistent policies and news might be their downfall.

Holy cow - T2 in Hd-dvd would quell any doubts I had about buying the Tosh. :crosses fingers:

Are you f***ing kidding me? They're having serious problems with disc capacity and they waste valuable space with a stupid dub in DTS?

You'd just have to import it...if and when it comes out.

It seems to me that the HD launch went the exact same way. Clunky player with lots of glitches, so so impressions with consumers, and not alot of software. BD has not even officially launched so the software issues are moot, in fact in about a month BD will have more to choose from than HD once WB, Fox, BV, and Paramount start releasing and annoucing titles. There will no doubt be a firm ware upgrade to deal with some of the issues that have come up with the Samsung the same way it took care of the Toshiba problems. Convincing mainstream consumers to buy is going to be the hard part for both camps. BD and HD are in about the same place. Each has one distinct advantage: HD cheaper price for the units; BD much greater studio support. Bd will eventually lower their prices, probably sooner rather than later. HD is pretty much SOL unless they can convince more studios to jump on board. You are not going to be successful with only three of the top 6 or 7 studios supporting your format. IF HD gets the studio support and the BD hardware prices remain high BD is going to be SOL.

Blu-Ray is still around? -screwy-
