Well isn't that just all kinds of interesting. I'm assuming that will probably change in the future?

There are no plans to change it at the moment. And even if they do, the discs released between the beginning and then will not be region coded. There are discs from BD-only studios that have been released overseas.

Its not that abnormal for Japan to have a 2 disc release of a movie and the US getting a one disc set. It has happened many times in the past with SD discs. Black Rain is just a very popular movie in Japan obviously because of the Japanese setting in the film I would imagine so I dont find it very surprising that they would do something extra for that region. I loved the film and will definitly be getting the Japanese version.

Does anybody have the list of features on the 2 Disc Japanese version?

PS..

Yes. I posted all of it in the international forum as well as the dvdtalk thread about Black Rain.

All of those extras on the 2nd disc are apparently in Japanese and have no subtitles.

Update: i just checked and it was 40 minutes of interviews with the Japanese stars (all in Japanese) and a photo gallery. Don't think we'll know officially until someone buys it.

Bleh....X3 does nothing for me.

Now, if Xmen and X2 were out also, that would be different. Id probably start looking into getting a bd player.

Would you not wait for reviews and specs?

That depends....right now, yes.....if Fox starts putting out quality discs and rarely (if ever) has a bad one, then I would anticipate that the quality would be good.

Thats the same approach that I take with HD-DVD now. All of the HD-DVD studios have released quality HD-DVDs (and BD counterparts in most cases)....so I preorder like a mofo.

Sony and Lionsgate are the 2 that I would wait for reviews on right now.

In addition to the previously mentioned Black Rain & Failure to Launch, here are a few more BD additions:

Crank 1/9
The Covenant 1/2
Superman Returns 11/28
The Manchurian Candidate 1/23
We Were Soldiers 1/23

If there are no extras, then it depends on the movie for me. I would probably wait on Xmen and X2 for a release with extras.

Something like LOTR or Star Wars or Matrix or some others, I would go ahead and buy. Then, upgrade later when another version is released.

For some reason i just don't see D.O.A. getting released. Maybe it'll be the first straight to HD title

On that, I hope Magnolia concentrates on getting their current titles out first, since it seems this week's releases I was waiting for all turned into TBA (same for HD-DVD versions as well)

I agree 100%.

Hey Kocheese, have you heard anything about the currently delayed Magnolia/HDNet titles?

Could it be the Dennis Quaid/Meg Ryan movie?

I hope X3 is a BD50. It would also be nice if it included all the extras that we Region 1 folk didn't get on our 1-disc dvd. I think region 2 got a 2-discer. But I somehow think this will mirror our Region 1 dvd release. If I were Fox, I would release this title this year and not with the Japan release date of January.

Yeah, didn't notice that. I'll edit it out for now, since it probably is a mistake.

I wish Fox would just announce the X-men box once and for all!

I'll buy it, but I wish it wasn't a combo. Is it some kind of rule that every one of Universal's catalog combos has to be a title with more than one DVD release, thus making it more likely that a buyer already has a version of the title on standard DVD?
