Yep, I read that about Lost earlier today. It's a very, very poor move if BD decides to go for that $200 price tag and then put out other shows with only two episodes per discs at $20 each. And people were bitching about The Sopranos HD DVD being too expensive.

Oh my god. There is so much wrong with this that I cannot even believe that this isnt some kind of joke. 200 bucks for a season of TV and here I was ripping on HBO for charging 80. I am without a doubt 100% convinced from this point out that the people at BD literally shouldnt be working in this business and there are people on this website that would do a much better job at running that outfit. A rediculous price point combined with the fact that they are thinking about breaking up TV seasons to be sold on multiple episode discs has really boggled my mind.

I see questionable moves made all the time by studios but this without a doubt takes the cake as the single, most idiotic, self defeating move ever made. As soon as the general population sees a 200 dollar price tag on a season of Lost, well you can throw in the towel for BD at that point and if they end up releasing stuff on HD-DVD with that same price point the same could be said for that as well. The single worst thing the studios can do is to start charging rediculous prices for content, it will without a doubt be the one move that will sink these formats.

Still cant believe they are planning on doing this, These people who make these decisions need to wake up real fast before they do some irrepairable damage to these new formats. SD DVD is just too cheap and is just way too big of a powerhouse to think you can get away with prices like these. God help us all!

PS..

I suppose the people at ABC think if BR supporters can afford 1K+ players, they must have oodles of money sitting around to spend on $199.99 TV shows! Not me personally.

Only thing I might even possibly consider paying that high for would be the whole SW saga on BR.

I never pay more than $40 for a season of TV and rarely more than $30. Guess what studios, that isn't changing with the HD formats. They can release all the $200 box sets they want. I have no problem either buying the cheap SD sets or just recording all the shows myself in HD.

I love Lost, but its not very rewatchable IMO. I sold my first season DVDs back to dvdplanet.

$200 is outrageous if true.

If compared to the Sopranos though, 12 episodes for $129.95 and Lost is 24 episodes for $199......so, its a bargain!!!!

Wonder if the AvP disc will be the theatrical or director's cut...

There's got to be something wrong with that rumored Lost price. $200? The standard DVD retails for $60. That's more than 3x the price.

Even $100 is borderline insane. They'd have to invent a whole new word to describe the $200 price point.

I'd almost rather that the studios held back on TV releases rather than do this. Sopranos at $130, Smallville at $80, Lost at $200 (!) Those kinds of price tags are going to scare people away from HD/BD in general. Not to mention that in the case of Smallville and Lost, most of the target audience would be rebuying something they already own. That makes the price tag ($80, $200, whatever) all the more difficult to swallow.

well i just checked with our distributor and they have V, Excalibur, and Under Seige ready to ship as of today. Unfortunately for me, we only get our shipments sent every wednesday so i won't get mine till a week from tomorrow. But if our distributor is anything like other online stores then they should not be delayed.

From the BR releases Matome posted I'd pick up Commando and Men of Honor.

As far as the Lost rumor I'll say this. I'm a real big fan of the show but the dvds are pretty awesome quality as they stand. I wouldn't pay over 50 for these in HD.

Yeah, that's not an attractive price at all. I've been spoiled by 8-15 dollar DVDs, and 12-30 buck seasons; 100-200 for a whole series is reasonable. If it's a release where the show does benefit from HD a/v, and they do it right, I could see it being worth a little more, but not 200 bucks a season--especially when it was shown on HD, so they shouldn't have to do any tricky upgrading or whatever [i'm assuming],

Universal is still plugging along this year.

Jet Li's Fearless (Unrated) 12/19

The Combo Format HD-DVD will include the unrated high definition presentation on side A, presented in 2.4:1 1080p video and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 audio. Extras will include the featurettes Violence and Martial Arts, and Action Throughout. Side B will include both the unrated and theatrical versions, making this the first triple-dip Combo Format HD-DVD released by any studio.

'Jet Li's Fearless (Unrated)' will carry an SRP of $29.98 on DVD and $39.98 on Combo Format HD-DVD.

If you're talking about V for Vendetta, I don't think so. I have it.

People have also reported seeing Under Siege and Excalibur out early, so I don't think anything got delayed like Nacho Libre.

For the BD version, the main feature will be on a BD50 with all the extras on a second BD25. Talk about overkill - the feature technically run at over 50Mbps if spec permitted such. I wonder what they have in store for all that space.
I think World Trade Center will the first BD title I buy that is available on both formats. Placing the movie only on a BD50 has my attention.
