Ok. I'm just pointing out anything that is different than before. I fear change ;)

For anyone else: You can edit your preferences for that in User CP->Edit Options->Default Thread Description Mode (whew!)

The admins and mods will all discuss what features we will and will not turn on or enable once IB has finished everything they need to do to get the site all configured on their end working and any bugs and such that pop up are corrected.

I think Pilot pretty much summed that up. Still, the admins and mods will be making their decision based on what they think is best for the community as a whole, not what they like / disslike. If they decide that it would make everyone happy to be able to have avatars, we'll turn them on and allow you to upload them. The issues in the past that discouraged that should no longer be issues.

The Cow 08-15-08 06:19 PM

The 'browser toolbar icon' seems to have disappeared.

It used to be a little DVDTalk logo and now it's just a folder looking thing (actually I'm not sure what it is). The logo graphic used to show up in the FireFox tabs also.

Kudos on the 'Post Quick Reply' without the full page reload

Dick,

Since you appear to be from IB, what's going on with the ads inside of posts? Are they staying, or going away?

*Edit - nevermind, it appears from the other post that it's only effecting people who aren't logged in. For some reason, it keeps making me login, and will not remember my password for the site or keep me logged in. Grrrr...

Shoot. I thought I had replaced that image so it wouldn't get overwritten. I'll fix that up. It's the default vB favicon your seeing. FYI, it may take some time to uncache and show back up, but I'm changing the file back now.

That's what it's doing to me. If I log in, I'll stay logged in for that session, but as soon as I navigate away, it's as if the session expires, and when I return, I have to log in again.

We can change this setting, but it increases server load and slows page load times. It might be troublesome on a board this large. I'll run it by the moderators.

Rogue588 08-15-08 07:51 PM

I'm kinda missing the "Mark Forums Read" link in the blue border on the bottom of the "Search Results" page.. :(

Chrisedge 08-15-08 08:00 PM

small avatars = cool
images in sig or big signatures = not cool

Numes 08-15-08 08:10 PM

Another  - The quoted text now also shows up in the e-mail notifications!

milo bloom 08-15-08 08:11 PM

I like seeing the post counts, and would also be in favor of small avatars. I use Jar Jar Binks in another forum (non SW amusingly enough) and I like being able to find my posts when quickly dragging the scroll bar up and down.

Th0r S1mpson 08-15-08 08:38 PM

The update is awesome. I'm sure any kinks will get worked out, but I'm enjoying the changes already.

More reason to avoid avatars!

Spicollidriver1 08-15-08 10:17 PM

I know in the past there was problems with having the post counts visible, but I think we have all matured a bit -wink-

Numes 08-15-08 10:33 PM

I'm quite shocked about the amount of support for the post count. One thing in visiting other forums that always seemed juvenile to me was the visible post count. I won't mince words, I always thought DVDtalk was above that. The label for each user already gives you an idea of what their post count is anyways.

No personal attacks! :grunt:

Th0r S1mpson 08-15-08 10:37 PM

I dislike the post count being so prominent. It makes me look like a loser with no life. I prefer that new people have to read some of my posts before drawing that conclusion.

Tracer Bullet 08-15-08 11:48 PM

The spacing between quoted posts and posts and between posts and signatures looks tighter. I don't like it.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I don't mind post count. There's some big gaps between titles anyway :p

dx23 08-16-08 07:01 AM

I like the new updates but the only thing that still bugs me is the mediocre search function. It seems that it has gotten worse instead of improving.

On a side note, there seems to be a glitch with the Scorpion King 2 review:

I've checked all my settings and everything is fine. I get logged out with IE and Firefox, on my home computer and my office computer.

It's worked fine for years, and after the forum update, it hasn't.

Is the new multi-quote feature working? I clicked on the button. It turned red, but nothing happened.

Click the button on each post you want to quote in your reply, then on the final post you want to quote just click the regular quote button and your reply will have all the ones you turned red.

So, what's the deal with this? It's a hassle to have to add a [ b] and [ /b] and the beginning and end of every movie title.

Do you know if the issue of incomplete search results is one of the bugs being worked on? As of post #30 DVD Talk Admin didn't seem to think there was a problem with the returns.

Same for me. My laptop stayed logged in and is fine, but using the same browser, my desktop just won't stay logged in. Pretty annoying.

And PLEASE fix the search function. I just finished Prison Break Season 3 and enjoyed going back to the old threads to read what people would say about each episode. Now, when I search for 'prison', it gives me totally unrelated threads back from 2003. I can't for the life of me get to the threads I'd like to.

= J

Numes 08-16-08 10:21 AM

I used the "Clear Private Data" option on Firefox with everything but "Saved Passwords" checked and that ended my logout issues.

I can also confirm some funny stuff in the Advanced Search page. I searched for "commentary" (titles only) and all the results were from 6-15-05 and before. I know nothing about vBulletin, but it almost seems like whatever variable the search function uses for the "current date" is set back to somewhere in 2005 and that's why it's not finding any newer posts.

Edit: Ok, I searched for my user name (Numes) in the "Search by User Name" and it listed all my posts (including this one).

Hmm.... I tried "commentaries" and it found some threads from this year. I guess my hypothesis was wrong.

I believe it may still be compiling a search listing. I do not believe it ever will be perfect, but keep checking. IB-Dick can look into it to see if anything can be done if it seems to be worse than before.

It may still be compiling a search index, but see my previous response.

Searching for just posts made by your username probably will always reveal your posts. I think. However that's pretty pointless.

As of this post though, I believe search is still pretty fubar.
