(Thanks Tide; as the defender of the adult realm, I have been dealing with the people mentioned for years and I think "chanster" knows more about what I'm talking about than he's letting on...)
No, I really don't know..I don't think I've posted a comment about you or objectionale conduct in a very very long time..but Rogue is right, so I bid adieu to this line of discussion.

I have no problem with ya Geoff making the $$$ off this site, that's a huge point of it.

And Geoff has had some pretty severe headaches, I'm sure over the last year with several things.

I just wish there was a better way to let other members take over or something (through a partnership or whatever).

Happy for Geoff, and happy for the years, but...

Chan, forgive me if I'm wrong, but weren't you one of the members that fussed repeatedly about covers and screen caps that were offensive? Weren't you one of the ones upset that G! gave some slack to Howard about posting pro-Vivid material here? These were topics that repeatedly addressed by G! yet a handful were continually posting about (again, yourself included IIRC). Thanks for participating though; it was a better read than all the stuff in the HD forum or the school shooting thread(s).

Without searching, I think I posted 1-2 posts (and I wasn't the originator of any of those threads) on each of those subjects, then yes I'm guilty, but then that is a pretty low standard to hold grudges about.

That's it! Get G's Uncle Harvey on the phone right away! We'll need an upside-down yoddeler, a crazy janitor and... and.. change? Anyone have change for a dollar?
<img src="http://www.newsfromme.com/images7/uhf1.jpg">

Kidding, of course. I'm interested to see where this leads and if it makes G's life easier / better then I'm all for it. He's put in a lot of effort for all of us over the years. VERY much appeciated.

I think what makes DVD Talk such a pleasant site is that it reflects the Geoff's personality and decisions. Is he going to stay on in a decision-making capacity?

I hope that IB gave him a nice bit of cash as well as shares.

Perhaps my memory is better than yours then but I never said I was referring to you (which was why your comments caught me by surprise), even if you might technically qualify for some of the remarks that appear to have hit too close to home.

From what he said in the original post, I assume so.
I plan to continue to play an active role in the community and in the growth of the site and work to help implement some of the things you’ve all really wanted to see in the forum, but that I haven’t had the support or resources to do.
Of course, the lure of some offshore <strike><s>tax shelter</strike></s> paradise may be just <i>too</i> tempting....

Don's response is completely warranted, IMO.

Might want to study up before attacking Don's opinions on something that he has a very large stake in.

So no one misunderstands, I didn't start that thread to complain about the move. As mentioned in my post I like the new adult forum. As the title says I started it to see why things seemed to slow down.

Not everyone is happy with the move of the adult forum as they are with the porn reviews leaving, but like every other choice in life, it provides a chance to do more with that content.

You say that, but I could swear it was explained that the Adult forum move was mostly about the <b>ADVERTISERS</b> whining and not buying space due to adult content on the site. I guess it makes sense now with the sale. Also, do you mean "frenzies" like when seeing adult content ads on non-adult areas of dvdtalk was more than just a "possibility" on more than a few occasions? Don't forget that many here surf dvdtak from work so one can understand their concern right?

Sheesh. I'm off the site for a day or two and everything changes.

Suprmallet becomes HD editor, Wendersfan becomes a mod, Geoff joins Internet Brands...

If the site gets better than I'm happy because I'm here all the damn time. If the site gets worse and I bail maybe it's for the best...cause I'm here all the damn time!

As the adult content prospered, the friction between the competing interests grew with a number (small but growing) upset at the influx of more of it. I disagree with your point of contention though since for years, DVD Talk has offered NSFW content mixed in; on the main review page being the prime example, but even covers of mainstream titles that bothered those select few in general rotation throughout the whole website (as evidenced by my signature below, which is now out of date of course), advertisements from Empire, or front page bits for the Blue Room or the final one for the "Best Damn Giveaway" contest.

"Since "offensive" is such a subjective issue, the line has to be drawn somewhere, and the line Geoff's chosen is "if Amazon sells it, it's not porn". ('Cause Amazon doesn't sell porn.) If you don't like it, disable images in your web browser or don't browse DVD Talk at work. There is no solution that'll please everyone." Adam "The Programming God" Tyner

I do understand their concerns, and have always understood them, but as it had been explained time and time again, the website was not envisioned as being SFW. One of the benefits of the move for such people (and as I pointed out, a lot more went on behind the scenes here), is to effectively make the website much more SFW. If IB decides to remove all mainstream covers that might offend someone browsing at a church social, I expect that there will be all new complaints in the other direction but no such pronouncements have been forthcoming as of yet. Otherwise, I look forward to (hopefully) seeing you over there jumping in (us big butt lovers need to stick together).

I also fear change. I fear it because I don't have other places to go. If this doesn't work out, I HAVE NO PLACE TO GO!!! So don't let it get messed up.

I hope so, but I don't think so. This post smells of the exact type of thing every corporate president/CEO, etc. has said after selling something. It is meant to make people feel secure, and is generally part of the phase out process. In around a year, they go on to greener pastures to do other things, and that was generally the intent from the begining.

Don't take that as me being negative. I love the fact that you made some bucks off this site. I'd have done the same thing if I were you (depending on price versus income, etc., naturally).

Also, I am now paranoid that Houstondon is talking about me, and I think this might be the first time I ever noticed that he is not a new member. Was it me, Don? I hope I wasn't a whiner. But I get paranoid any time I hear the "small group and you know who you are" phrase. Because what if I am just too oblivious to not know who I am, if I am one of those who should know? I can be that oblivious. I annoy people without realizing it.

Not to mention new owners never intend to keep things the way they are.

Aww Dave, you're one of the reasons I hang around the mainstream site as much as I do (I originally joined in February 1999-the porn reviewing here came much later). I share some of your concerns but have faith that for the foreseeable future, G! will keep this place on the right track.

First, it's G!'s "adult site", not mine. As the recent split was made to accommodate the process of ownership as much as anything else, it is relevant to the discussion. In fact, it was the biggest change expected in the near future; the adult content having assisted in paying for the bills of the rest of the website for a lengthy period of time (including making this forum possible).
Second, while I have my reservations about the new owners, G! is still in charge at this writing. He has made it clear that the intentions are not to remain static but to grow in directions he had long wanted to pursue but lacked the resources to carry forth with. Corporate America has long had a love/hate relationship with consumers (and adult content) but if they can facilitate positive changes; we should be supportive. Just because they are corporate doesn't equate that they are scheming and plotting ways to wreck havoc.

The best news is, I bet one of those "much requested features" that will likely be added is a pay service.

I was all about that over the years to help support the site. I know my affiliate purchases didn't do as much as I'd like them to. Given the change though, I wouldn't be one to jump in right away since I don't really know who I'm supporting at this point.

I would have liked to see the "premium membership" avenue explored first prior to a sell-off. But hey, you don't put 10 years into a site and not seriously consider seeing a little something for your efforts. We older members can be a prickly bunch
