The Official Forum Upgrade Bug/Issue Thread

While you are all welcome to post feedback threads about the upgrade, I need 1 thread where I can clearly identify and address all the outsanding issues of the upgrade. Here are the issues I have identified so far.

OPEN ISSUES
- The last post title of adult is showing up on front page [I'll see what I can do to address that]
- Links/underlines are showing clearly [I'll see what we can do]
- Ads under first post [It's something we're testing so bear with us]
- Search index isn't complete [Still building has been since last night]
- Font Size Issue [Need to Investigate]

CLOSED ISSUES
- Make it so quick reply does require another click - FIXED
- Min post legnth is too long - FIXED
- Member Titles Aren't Updated - FIXED
- Old Smilies are Gone - All the custom ones are still there, standard ones have been updated in the upgrade
- The blue bars between posts are too dark - Lightened Them Up. I Might still dink with the color scheme but at least now it's readable.

OTHER ISSUES CHANGES
- Poker/Vegas is now under Other

If you have a bug or isssue. Please clearly post it (without a diatribe) here and I'll add it to our list or address it. If we can keep this thread as clear and focused on the issues/bugs as possiable it will enable me to really address them.

kilcher 12-05-04 10:25 AM

Geoff - For user titles try...

usergroup manager - click go next to the "registered" usergroup - scroll down to "Can Use Custom Title" and make sure it's set to yes.

Brent L 12-05-04 10:25 AM

I'd like it if we could see the post count of everyone as you read threads, and I'd also prefer the "subscribe to this thread" link to be back down at the bottom of each thread. I know you can still do that, and that option is fine, but I wish we could have it the other way also. Other than those two things, I like what I've seen so far.

OldDude 12-05-04 10:32 AM

Copied from my other thread since it didn't "make the list"

The View|Text Size command (in IE) no longer affects the font size in the actual bulletin board area (it still does in the ads and links on top) UNLESS I activate the the "Accessibility Options" and "Ignore Font Size specified on web page." I'm no expert on HTML. but I think this is an issue of fixed vs relative font sizes specified in the code. I'm old (who would have guessed) and tend to use a pretty large font size, others obviously prefer smaller.

Can the bulletin board go back to relative font sizes so we can all "roll our own?"

Purple links on purple background. It used to be blue links on white background.

Be more specific. Purple links where?

Brent L 12-05-04 10:43 AM

Here is a new one:

When I subscribe to a thread, and someone responds to it, instead of getting just one email, I've been betting two, three, four, five emails per response to the thread I subscribed to.

TomOpus 12-05-04 10:52 AM

As was mentioned by twikoff (in the other thread), when you post in a thread it'll trigger the "new post" flag and bold the thread for yourself (last poster). It should only trigger it when someone else has a new post.

To clear it you have to go back into the thread even though you were the last poster.

twikoff 12-05-04 11:24 AM

ugh
signatures look like they are part of the post

tommyp007 12-05-04 11:32 AM

yeah, I went and changed the font color just to make it look different from the posts.

Cheddarmuff 12-05-04 11:37 AM

Thanks Geoff...

Jam Master Jay 12-05-04 11:40 AM

is it normal to be getting "sponsored links" right below the first post of threads?

twikoff 12-05-04 11:42 AM

Jam Master Jay 12-05-04 11:44 AM

oh good stuff, it might actualy help if i would have read the first post of this thread

strife 12-05-04 11:49 AM

I don't know if happening to anyone else I have to keep logging in when I visit the forum and I have remember me checked.

Wizdar 12-05-04 11:49 AM

Have to login each time after closing IE. For that matter, if I open up a new IE window and go to DVDTalk, I have to login again even though I have an another window open and am logged in.

“New thread” button missing in the actual thread pages.

GeoffK 12-05-04 11:55 AM

if you're having issues re-logging in you need to clear out your cookies

Wizdar 12-05-04 12:26 PM

Yep. That worked.

Thanks!

Bill Geiger 12-05-04 12:28 PM

Shit Geoff, I like what has been done.

However, I am sure I have many agreeing with me on  with ads under the first post. Othewrwise, so far so good. Thanks for the great effort!

twikoff 12-05-04 12:31 PM

Agreed. It is MUCH better than when twikoff first woke up this morning.

GeoffK 12-05-04 12:37 PM

It's not going to happen today, but at some point there will be a paid option for the forum and that paid option will of course remove the intra thread ad :)

dork 12-05-04 12:44 PM

I don't know if this is a software issue and it's extremely minor, but after you post to a thread and go to the thread list page that thread is now marked as having new posts even though the only new post is the one you just made. I hate to get all excited about a thread getting new replies only to click on it and find out that it's just some garbage that I posted. If this isn't addressed I shall be forced to put myself on Ignore.

Nick Danger 12-05-04 12:51 PM

Kilcher suggested that I specify my browser. I find the forums pages hard to read, but I'm still not sure if it's because of the bolding, the underscores, or the different font. But everything is running together into a mass of blue. I had to increase the font size twice to read it easily. I'm using Mozilla 1.0.1.

The new look is shaping up pretty nice.

On the main page of each forum. The links for the thread are purple, on top of a purple background. Hard on the eyes. It used to be blue links on white background.

Breakfast with Girls 12-05-04 01:14 PM

<b>Issue 1:</b> I think it would really help readability if the threads and posts alternated background colors like they did before, gray and white, and the top bar of each post was integrated into the sidebar with the name.

Also, my username is on two lines now. :(

<b>Issue 2:</b> Oh, and it wouldn't hurt to reorder the columns of the thread forum like they were before... Replies, Views, Last Post. That order seems a little more logical to me.

<b>Issue 3:</b> The first post preview on the threads page shows boxes where there are line breaks. That's probably a hack to fix that, but it should be easy. Just do a
PHP Code:

preg_replace("/[\r\n]/g", "", $previewString);

<b>Issue 4:</b> Not a big deal, but it looks like there's an extra line break in the PHP (code) tag. There may be an extra line in other display tags as well.

twikoff 12-05-04 01:30 PM

too early to tell... The search index is updating (has been since 2am last night) so that has to be having an impact on the whole forum.

twikoff 12-05-04 01:55 PM

true.. didnt think about the heavy load being put on by the indexing
although for what its worth.. i havent noticed any performance issues so far today.. even with that extra load

Tracer Bullet 12-05-04 01:56 PM

I use Opera, and I can't log in to the forum at all (using Firefox to post). I click on the "Username" box but no cursor appears and I cannot input anything. It looks like a form problem, I just don't know if it's the site or Opera.

Which version of Opera are you using? I'm using 7.60beta and didn't have a problem. Also tried out my old version 7.54 and didn't have any issues either.

Hmm... I'm using 7.21. Guess I'll be forced to upgrade now... I tried 7.54 and didn't like it. :(

Ino longer see a "member list" and when I search for it in the FAQ it says that it is disabled.

Had to look long and hard to find something not fixed yet.

In the drop down list, Adult talk shows up (even though it is a subforum) but Poker and Politics do not. Don't know if you want to add the others or get rid of the one, but I would guess you want them all in there.

twikoff 12-05-04 03:07 PM

geoff

we all know this version is necessary for us ever to move forward with alot of the features that we have all wanted.. including the premium membership option

i would suggest you making a stern notice that this version is here to stay and we need to cooperate and make suggestions to improve as best possible

because there is too much discussion right now comparing this version with the last one.. as if its being debated on which to go with..

unless this version causes a serious server hit.. I assume we are going to do whatever it takes to customize this one and use it going forward.

take the bad with the good, and constantly tweak to make it better

What you said....!

Yeah folks... This is it... We've moved to VB3 and so it's all tweaks to the new system from here on out, NOT going back.

Change isn't easy, and I knew that there would be many people who would have a hard time adjusting... But it's all good. VB3 now enables us to offer paid memeberships and all the things that come with that as well as add features like Avatars, Private Messages and more. The first step is get this up and running and then tweak it to be able to deal with the Mon/Tues rush. Look for the new features to 'creep' their way in over the next few weeks.

Does the Views counter work differently now, or is it messed up? It's been stuck at 464 for this thread, for example. I clicked on the thread a couple of times to check, and it's still stuck.

Looking forward to the option to guess on the number of posts Twik makes in a day...should be a blast!
