What don't you like about v3?
 

A companion thread obviously, but maybe better than each item in its own thread.

The View|Text Size command (in IE) no longer affects the font size in the actual bulletin board area (it still does in the ads and links on top) UNLESS I activate the the "Accessibility Options" and "Ignore Font Size specified on web page." I'm no expert on HTML. but I think this is an issue of fixed vs relative font sizes specified in the code. I'm old (who would have guessed) and tend to use a pretty large font size, others obviously prefer smaller.

Can the bulletin board go back to relative font sizes so we can all "roll our own?"

as mentioned in the other thread.... i dont like the seperation of each thread by the blue bars into their own little windows..

i also dont like that i cant use quick reply yet!!

but the ability to check or uncheck SIG when doing quick reply is great

I dont like how some of the smilies changed.

The only thing I don't like is that everytime I close IE I have to sign in again despite the fact that I checked off "Remember Me". :(

it may not be a good idea that we can see the name of the last thread from ADULT talk while surfing in OTHER

and its good that the threads with new posts are BOLD... but it kindof sucks that it goes bold when I post in the thread

it should only detect new posts from OTHER people

ick... just ick... it's too "pretty"... plus not cool having to click quick reply in a post before being able to quick reply... hrmmm

I agree. Also, when you click on "mark forum read", it takes you off the forum you want marked read. Before, you stayed on the forum.

sorry Geoff... I hate to be a negative nelly, but I can't find anything that I do like about it so far...

... and I know you have to make a living, but YUCK to the "sponsored ads" within the thread after the first post... same annoying thing that showed up on FW recently

yea.. you always have to do it manually here.. which i prefer.. because i just want to single quote most of the time.. so its more trouble to always delete out the long thread of multi quotes, than it is to manually put one in.. on the rare instance i want to..

they were sep out before... but it was much smoother because i believe it feel into the two tone style we had before.. (not this current way where everything seems to be in its own little window)

i prefer the two tone style much more

As I posted in another thread, you can use quick reply, it's the small button in the lower right-hand corner of each post. Hit it and it will take you to the QR box and you'll be able to use it. That's an extra step that Geoff can (and probably will) disable.

As for ads, I think Geoff is planning on introducing a paid option to remove the ads. The website is expensive to run. I have those on my board and most people don't even notice them. As much as you don't want to believe it right now you will get used to them.

Venusian - What do you mean by subscriptions? Threads that you're subscribed to?

we dont have the individual SEARCH box in each seperate forum!
there is that one up above.. but that does a global search, regardless where you do it from.. unless you go to advanced options

i really like that individual search.. hopefully it comes back quick

Right, you can go to advanced options but there's also a "search this forum" or "search this thread" drop down depending on what page you're on. It's also at the top. In the upper right hand corner of the first post. It's actually a lot more convenient.

the premium membershit idea has been brought up in the past.. and for the most part.. everyone has been very accepting of it..
I for one am looking forward to it

he has no plans to make this a pay site.. just the option of getting special features by being a premium member.. I think its an excellent idea and a great way for people to support the site.

but "search this forum" on the other hand is invaluable to me.. and i dont like having to go into advanced options to do that :down:

Is my computer messed up? I have to click my "back" button twice for it to work. But its only doing it on this site.

The new theme is kinda hard to read. I'd prefer it if the text area were either white or very lightly tinted, because there's not enough contrast between text and the background right now. The old v2 color scheme was a lot easier on the eyes; if vBulletin v3 offers theme support like phpBB does, it would be nice to have the old color scheme as an option.

Bear in mind that "stage one" was probably just getting the software to work, period. I'm sure Geoff will be tweaking it extensively in the days to come.

twikoff: To search the current forum, click on (ta da!) the "Search this Forum" link near the upper-right of the page. I don't think it's available by default (this may change, as Geoff fiddles with the settings) while viewing a thread.

Ok, I just want to make sure you're aware of this option, you may be...

If you are in the forum, on the page that lists all the thread names there is a "search this forum" drop-down at the top (where the "search this thread" drop-down is on this page).

Geoff can very easily make a link directly to the search page. I'll suggest it to him.

Also nice about the new search feature is that you can search multiple forums at the same time. Just CTRL click on the forums you want to search.

yea.. Im sure there will be lots of tweaking.. thats why its great to get all the suggestions out now

I agree.. I like the idea of offering a premium membership that rewards premium members, but not if it means that new nags have to be introduced (ala shareware) just to coerce the non-premium members that if they paid it would all be better (you know... the way it used to be)... add NEW content for premium members... don't ruin the site for the non-premium folks or the group of people who hang around long enough to get interested in premium will dwindle.

btw... what would i use the PHP tags for?

If you're willing to switch browsers, Firefox and Opera can zoom the text just fine. This is a known bug in IE.

but.. there is 2 ways to think about it.... are those ads there now, because geoff can do it with v3.. and they would be there anyways.. or are they there as an incentive to join the paid membership..

Ill give geoff the benefit of the doubt and assume he implemented that option, just because it was available.. and not to try and strong arm anyone into going with the upcoming premium option...

Most admins are very aware of that. I don't think Geoff has any intention of taking anything away.

although geoff is a smart guy.. he knows that 90-95% of users are on IE.. so he will cater the modifications to make sure everything works properly for the masses.

Ah, I think the PHP tags are for posting code. Probably not something that would see much use here.
