Still having to log in everytime I open IE.
This is the only forum/board it happens with so I am thinking it's not an IE issue.

IMO, the Other Forum still isn't fun despite certain implementations to make it so. The community feel of the forum, the small town'ness that attracted me to it in 2001, has been broken down slowly and this last step of the CHANGE is a big one. It is now like a MAJOR city in here with advertising and assholes all over the place. It seems that a lot of threads now break out into some silly argument and each night I am seeing scantly clad women in ads (okay, so maybe that last one isn't such a big deal :p).

Anyway, just my two as a dude that's been here for awhile. As I said, things had been breaking down slowly but this change is like a wreaking ball to the forum and all these little pieces left reminding me how this place once ways, how it could be, are hidden by the new condo being built on the lot and all the crap that comes with it. Ebb and flow is the old line Geoff has used in the past but on viewing the site today I have to say there has been FAR TOO MUCH FLOW and the river it has created is polluted. One just needs to see the post difference in the WHAT WE LIKE and WHAT WE DON’T LIKE threads to know that.

I agree with alot of what View says. But the place has to change to live for a number of reasons. Did not get to Other as fast as some but it was more unruly in the day. Sometimes things have a lifespan that is not what we would choose.

There are a number of posters and people I look forward to seeing here. And with the ignore feature undone there appear to be some more I do not. We control how good or bad this place is. If we try ideas and they do not get the support we figure they should, than that is a sign this place may not be what we want. But for those of us here it is dependant upon us.

I agree. I don't like the icons like:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/images/.../forum_old.gif

I know they are the default ones, so I am hoping we can change them, because I think they look kinda cheesy.

But, I must say kudos to Geoff. The upgrade went off with a (large) hitch! He works really hard to give us something essentially for free.

matome 12-05-04 11:21 AM

Wow, I HATE the blue bars between the posts and the ad under the first post. I gotta get used to the new smilies.

Also, wasn't there a seperator line between our post and our sigs?

_tony_ 12-05-04 11:22 AM

any way to make the site go back to the 'look' it used to have? or is it more complicated then just changing a skin.

it doesn't feel like dvdtalk anymore :(

FinkPish 12-05-04 11:26 AM

I agree with most of the complaints and problems here, and I'll add one of my own.

It would be nice to have some separation between the post and the signature. There used to be some sort of underscore that divided the two, now they just run into each other and is a bit confusing.

twikoff 12-05-04 11:28 AM

this thread should probably be locked..since its just a suggestion thread..
so everything can go in the *official* one

There was, until a couple of minutes ago. I'm sure Geoff is in the middle of playing with some settings.

yea.. i thought there was seperation too

as soon as i saw it disappear.. i rushed in here to whine :D

Brain Stew 12-05-04 11:30 AM

And now, it's back.

FinkPish 12-05-04 11:32 AM

Yeah! I guess some people know how to get things done around here!

twikoff 12-05-04 11:41 AM

i dont like how my browser seems to keep locking up on the 25th time I hit the same "report this post to mod" button.

TOPDAWG 12-05-04 11:46 AM

I think it's shit and looks like ass now. Unless this forum can now fix my grammar it's pretty useless. The reason for the change looks to be so they could add that ad under the first post.

Jam Master Jay 12-05-04 11:56 AM

i think the only thing that I don't like is the ad's right below the first post, but it looks like that's getting looked into. So it's all good here. The new smileys are OK. I like how you can add MSN Messenger now in your profile instead of just AOL and Yahoo, since I never use those. The quick reply is pretty handy and can see my self using that quite a bit.

twikoff 12-05-04 11:59 AM

quick reply has been here for a long time
the nice addition to quick reply is the option to manually turn off your signature.. so you dont have to include it in every post
this is very nice for when you post many times in the same thread

fumanstan 12-05-04 12:04 PM

Everything is a little too big and colorful for me. But i'll get used to it. I kinda liked the simplicity of the old one.

flair 12-05-04 12:10 PM

Right now it just seems different. I am sure that I will get adjusted to the forum switch in a few weeks, I always do with other message boards. Well, back to lurking!

Fok 12-05-04 12:13 PM

Its a nice look, but a little bit too busy. I'm sure we'll get use to it. -smile-

DonnachaOne 12-05-04 12:16 PM

The old one wasn't broken.

along with all software and all things computers.. you have to upgrade from time to time..
are you still using your windows 95 machine?

Im sure there are new features you will enjoy with the new version..

matome 12-05-04 12:27 PM

^^So true, hell it even took me a while to get used to the new DVDTalk logo when Geoff switched it a few years back. :)

I see our sig lines are back and the bar colors between posts are much nicer

This happened the last time he upgraded and people were pissed off until he took away most of the new features and made it simple like before again. This time it's a much more drastic change... I don't like it either.

das Monkey 12-05-04 12:45 PM

Yeah, I hate to hop on the negativity train, but I'm having a hard time finding much of anything to like about the change. I'm sure some things will reveal themselves as great features over time, but right now, it's just really annoying.

This doesn't work at all on my Commodore 64. :(

Trigger 12-05-04 01:08 PM

Forum logged me out twice now and I haven't closed my browser or navigated away from the site.

Also - there's a somewhat neat feature where you point to a thread title and it displays the text of the first post, but it only works 1 out of 10 times. It's neat except that it doesn't work all the time and also because it obscures the other thread titles when it does work.

twikoff 12-05-04 01:10 PM

Ive been in since early early this morning and havent been kicked out yet
and the mouse over has worked every time for me so far... not sure if its something different with our setup

I remember posting about premium services, but I don't recall asking for a general upgrade.

It keeps doing that to me, too. I had typed out a long reply, only to be told I had to log in. When I tried to go back to rescue my message, it said "looks like you're trying to post - you are not logged in". My typing had been erased.

I posted: "people don't like change" or something like that.

Anybody want to predict what time (EST) that it will be when twikoff makes his 1000th post today? I'll say 7:12 pm.

It's getting hard to wade through all the posts to be able to pick out what this thread was about.

kevin75 12-05-04 01:47 PM

maybe i am alone in this but the site is running hellishly slow for me. i am running safari on a G5 mac and it's frequently taking at least a minute for each page to load. sometimes it's better, but being on dial up, i hope this isn't permanant. i may have to try firefox instead and see if it does better.

BJacks 12-05-04 01:48 PM

I can understand the need to upgrade, as I believe there are new security features in vB3. That said, since this is a complaining thread, I'd like to ditch the almost purple-ish color scheme and revert to what we had before. Also the usernames are too large, and I'm not a fan of the beveled buttons (I like the old flat ones). And yes, change scares me. :)

Yes. Especially the usernames.
