I didn't mean to post this last-minute, but there's a little over 7 hours left for the cutoff date to support the Slasher Trash: The Ultimate Slasher Documentary campaign for anyone interested. It's from the makers of In Search of Darkness, Slasher Trash and has Michael Gingold attached. It covers the more obscure slashers. Also, like the ISOD 90s doc, it's expensive - $80 for the Blu-ray!

I'm actually looking to add to my collection but don't wanna drop $100 on a movie lol. I AM looking for recommendations on some of the scariest movies so if anyone has a good list, let me know so I can start buying. Already made a few purchases on some deals this month.

I've been getting more stuff 'on digital' which helps storage and stuff at my fingertips; but also have obvious problems (it's at the mercy of the digital provider).

Repulsion has already been used as a subset pick, so you might want to suggest something else in its place.

Thanks for the tips, I have used Send to Kindle, but didn't know about the conversion option.

I pre-ordered mine last week. I've enjoyed their other genre docs, but this is the first time I have gone for the full pre-order deal. Really excited, even though it's over a year until it will likely be released.

Crossover update...

The Indie/Arthouse section currently has a title that's overwhelmingly in first place with a 3-way tie for second.

The Comedy section currently has a 3-way tie for first.

More titles have been added to both. All of the updates are listed at the bottom of the post.

Not sure I voted at the right time (and my mood may have changed my vote since then hahaha) so here’s my vote now:

Indie/Arthouse Crossover Suggestions:
Nosferatu (2024)

Comedy Crossover Suggestions:
The Menu (2022)

DVD/sBlu-Rays have vanished from brick and mortar retail; Best Buy stopped selling them last year, which was pretty much the death knell for physical media. My purchases these days are limited to Kino sales and Hamiltonbook, and the occasional WAC Blu from Amazon. I try to avoid buying digital movies because you never know when a license will expire. Nobody can delete my little plastic frisbees from my collection until they get disc rot.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 21: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

For those who haven't given picks, plan to give more or just haven't joined the volunteer list yet...
Expect an update on what is/isn't needed on the subset list by Tuesday.

I'm too indecisive to pick one myself, so please help me by voting...

Shudder 10th Anniversary
a) A Wounded Fawn (2022)
b) Deadstream (2022)
c) Glorious (2022)
d) Host (2020)
e) Jakob’s Wife (2021)
f) The Ugly Stepsister (2025)
g) The Witch in the Window (2018)
h) When Evil Lurks (2023)
And yes, you can vote for your own pick.

Shudder vote: The Witch in the Window
I found it to be a genuinely scary indie and was glad someone suggested it (the others are great too but WitW seems really overlooked)

I was the one who suggested it.

I know a movie's really working for me if it gives me gooseflesh at some point in the movie. I never get it from most horror movies, but The Witch in the Window gave it to me TWICE, which is a rare feat indeed. I agree that it's an unjustly overlooked little film, and even if you don't vote for it as the Shudder pick, you really owe it to yourself to give it a watch.

Having written that, I also got gooseflesh from Host, which is probably my favorite horror film of 2020. I'm not generally a fan of Internet horror films, but Host is a rare exception. It certainly helps that it doesn't wear out its welcome; it scares you and sees itself out in less than an hour.

I'm very much torn on which of these two to vote for, as I've been wanting to rewatch them both. I know that I'll end up watching both at some point during this year's challenge (as well as When Evil Lurks, which has gotten incredible reviews), but since I have to pick one for the subset, I'm going to go with The Witch in the Window.

Anything but Deadstream. I fucking hated that movie.

I vote for The Ugly Stepsister. It has the best ratings/reviews on IMDB of the lot, and I haven't seen it.

Wasn't When Evil Lurks on a previous challenge? Or maybe I just watched it during a challenge.

hmm. interesting. I actually found deadstream to be a solid found footage film. I thought the scares and the comedic elements worked well.

I re-upped with Shudder a few weeks ago. I just started watching two of the newer releases and it completely slipped my mind about the challenge. Clown in a Cornfield is being advertised heavily on some of the other channels, which I've never noticed before.

Personally, I haaaated the main character in this, which pretty much ruined for me what would have been a decent flick (for a found footage film) otherwise.

I'll vote for A Wounded Fawn (2022).
