Two more suggestions for the checklist:
Watch 3 Films You'ver Never Seen Before: is listed in House of Psychotic Women. There is a list in letterbox'd.com and for those with Shudder they have 29 of the movies in a collection.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I was wrong about the Shudder collection comment in my previous post. It is celebrating the ten year anniversary of House of Psychotic Women but the movies celebrating this are not all found in the book. I should have confirmed that before sending it.

It's hard to believe it's already been thirty years.
Had to kill off Chucky's big day, but couldn't resist this one. Since I already had TCMU on 10/14 due to the F13 (and Saturday) connection, I tied this to 100 Years of WB Horror. He did "House of Wax" for them, which just happens to be celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

And a reminder that all the current progress of assigned dates can be found here.

The subset table with guide will eventually get updated.

As always, all the links will be on the theme/subset table once it's posted.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I have a possibility on the assigned dates for the themes. Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (as an example for What's Your Name) was released on October 16, 1970 in Czechoslovakia according to the IMDB. If I read the Amazon website right, it looks like The Frightfest Guide for Vampire Movies was released on October 12, 2022. That would require a swap but October 12th is still not used.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Another possibility is October 4th (the day it is currently randomly sitting on) for the Horror Show as the movie Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein was released in Johannesburg, South Africa on October 4, 1948. It was also released in Mexico on October 15, 1948. This might be too random but this movie is included in the book. A better suggestion than my previous one is to move What's Your Name to October 10th as Pearl, the subset movie, was released on October 10, 2022 in Singapore on blu-ray according to IMDB. The blu-ray part must not be correct because the movie had just been released, it is much more likely that is the release date of the movie theatrically. This way Frightfest Guide would not have to be moved. Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

One final suggestion, Ringu (from the Chrono films) was shown at the Warsaw Film Festival in Poland on October 10, 2002. This appears to be its first showing in Poland.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

^Good catches, I used the first two. It's also good to have some backup plans in place just in case. And it's not inconceivable that the Singapore Blu-ray release date was correct being there was a Canadian release in November. I *think* they typically get releases earlier than us in the states but could be wrong. Either way, if IMDB says so it's good enough for me.

Also moved Zombies from the 7th to the 23rd as per the earlier suggestion after the World Zombie Day: London cancellation.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Some Director suggestions.
Greg Mclean - 5 titles
Lucky McKee - 7 titles
Bill Rebane - 9 titles

Maybe not enough titles for all of them but I didn't see them being picked in the past.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Here's the theatrical, VOD, streaming and physical media titles for the "Theatrical / VOD / Virtual Cinema Showing" subset/theme thread. As always, the sources I've used are both UpcomingHorrorMovies and the IMDB since they compliment each other well. There are some questionable releases from the IMDB that don't list specifics, and not much is found elsewhere, so those are marked with question marks. The fact they're not on UHM is probably an indication the release date is wrong, but I included them on the list just in case. Am I missing anything?

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Here are a few more theme date connections. The Interlift global trade fair for elevators and elevator components begins on October 17, 2023 in Germany (for location-based horrors). Come True (for the sleep theme) was shown on October 15, 2020 in Norway at the Ramaskrik Film Festival. The Peanut Butter Solution (for the defunct studio theme) was released in West Germany on October 5, 1989. Srdjan Saper, actor in Strangler vs. Strangler (for the passport - Serbia theme) was born on October 9, 1958. The Hidden (for the parasite infestation theme) was released in Japan on October 29, 1988.

For the chronological theme, on October 16, 1998, Bride of Chucky was released in the United States.

Some actor suggestions:

Lou Diamond Phillips - (13 titles)
James Brolin - (7 titles)
Paul Bartel - (15 titles)

Didn't see any of them on previous lists.

Nice. Between this batch and a couple I've just added that puts us at only 6 unclaimed spots.

I was thinking, though - is there anything that needs releasing after a certain date? All I can think of offhand is Talk to Me has a 10/25 release for the Umbrella limited set, although the US UHD comes out 10/3, so not really a problem.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Four more suggestions for themes. For Supernatuarl/Quiet/Soft/Seances Witchboard was released in Spain on October 19, 1987. A suggested swap for Anthology and Location-based horror is Cat's Eye was released in Taiwan on October 9, 1985. Pet Semetary: Bloodlines will be released on October 6, 2023. For slashers/serial killers M was released in Slovenai on October 17, 1931. For wrong side of the art two possibilities. One is the Artists Assemble Horror Fest is from October 20-22 2023 in Mesa Arizona or the Creeptober Halloween October Art Challenge in October 2023 prompt for October 22nd is graveyards/cemetaries. If these four would work that would leave The Horror Show Guide and all the Colors of the Giallo.

For the theme All the Colors of Giallo Deep Red was shown at the Pusan International Film Festival in Korea on October 9, 2009. For the theme Horror Show Guide The Exorcist (pictured on the cover) was released in Finland on October 4, 1974.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

^Got posters, supernatural, slashers, location-based and giallo. I did have to take a different route for location-based since I already had it plugged into the theme/subset table for that day, and switching everything around is most likely how last year's problems started. But 10/7 is the sole remaining Saturday spot, which worked out great - found the Haunted 5K & 10K at Green Springs Park, Deltona, FL. Also tacked on the Mass Marathon of the Damned since it's Saturday and covers both a marathon and one of the location-based areas.

EDIT: Didn't see your edit, so we're done. Big thanks for the help.

Looks like we're still missing some actors. How about Conor Sweeney? He's got 12 horror movies to his credit including some good recent ones.

It looks like we are also missing some make up effects artists. How about Kevin Yagher (used in 2015), Howard Berger (used in 2012), Greg Nicotero (used in 2012) or Rob Bottin (used in 2013).

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

First of all, apologies for practically abandoning the checklist at times. I've been struggling to keep up with getting everything ready in time and have just generally been doing a piss-poor at multitasking this year due to time constraints. That said, I practically have it done outside of a few cast/crew entries, which I can easily knock out in no time. I'll have it up and ready to go sometime tomorrow.

A few recent changes...

Added a few more subgenre/types, finished the 'watch 3 films' section and tropes. Also added a couple more 'OHMC Favorites'.

I did remove Bert I. Gordon from the anniversaries list after realizing we had him on there last year. I included him as a belated anniversary on themes after not discovering he turned 100 until last September, after themes were complete.

Anyway, look it over and let me know if there's any other changes to be made.
