100 Movies. 31 Days. The 18th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I watched my assigned film, Troll Hunter. Surprised I hadn't seen it before.
Anyways, I liked it. There were some spots where nothing really happened, but the awesome Norway landscapes made up for it.
Hans was a cool character - I liked his dry sense of humor. Really dug the troll design/effects. This is one of the better efforts in the Found Footage genre.

Troll Hunter is the sole "found footage" film I've seen that I'll willingly put on myself.

I watched my selected film. When the lists came out, I said "please no Hausu " to myself. I just remember not caring for it so much the first time i seen it. I'll say, on a second viewing... it is better. Maybe I was in a better viewing situation and catching more this time. It is still very wonky and discombobulated... but I think that is more intentional and planned to help with the distorted viewpoint. I'd go 6/10

The 40 41 subset discussion threads just went up in the DVD Reviews and Recommendations forum.
I forgot the Amazon affiliate links automatically generate the tiny logo, so there's some minor formatting issues with the Prime streaming links. I'll try and fix those soon although they do work.
The theme/subset table is almost ready to go. Having a few issues with it, but it should be posted fairly soon.
Fun fact: Never broke the 60-image limit in the past. This year did it four (almost 5) times. Went a little nuts with the posters, lobby cards, cover art, fan art, magazine covers, etc. and ended up with a total of1,067 1,074. Last Night in Soho took the crown with 70, just edging out Tombs by one.
Let me know if there's any links that direct to the wrong thing. There's bound to be a few.

I didn’t see a review thread for Video Violence. Are we just watching I Spit On Your Grave on the 15th?

Getting stoked to get started. The weather has been cooperating the past week, and it really feels like fall. I've been dragging my feet organizing this year, and it has finally hit me that I need to get my butt in gear. Will focus on pulling titles tonight, and I've started to fill in the checklist this morning. There's potential for a looming work trip to Ireland at the end of the month, and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle that. There's some push back from the Irish folks as they don't want to be entertaining leading up to Halloween. Seems to be a big deal over there.

I don't know if this was posted last year... but those Fans of Joe Bob briggs/ Monstervision/ Drive In Theatre... Heres a link to my drive that has a lot of the episodes unedited. (The Monstervision films are reedited with the uncut films put in place).

It was nice getting organized early this year with the earlier subset picks and enough of the checklist done that I could plan. I have all my blu rays stacked and my movies on Plex in a watchlist. My excel sheet is finished. So looking forward to October!
There are SO MANY new horror movies coming out. Holy crap. We're really in a hay day right now, which is lovely. I have quite a few new ones on my list this year as well as still plugging away at the They Shoot Zombies list. I'm up to 69% watched on that.

I just hit 20%, but I decided to have 'freshness' date of like 5 years. Anything older than that I would have to rewatch. It's still fluid! I'm watching all the Joe Bob episodes that are on the list and most of those are 2.5 hours each, so it's taking some time.

A head's up this was recently added to Vinegar Syndrome's new Going Out Of Print section. Just got mine yesterday. It's a nice set.

Very glad you mentioned the TSZDT list, which reminds me I have a few unseen in my collection. At last count I was at 94% watched. Of those 59 left I'm hoping to get at least a good 10 or so in for the challenge. And some rewatches, too.

Are there any horror movie podcasts that people would recommend? I've tried a couple but didn't really care for them. There sure are a lot of really bad podcasts out there.

I listened to Nightmare on Film Street. They're retty good, and very laid back. Another one is three guys I know personally from the UHM site... and thats All You Need is Blood podcast

The big one is probably Dead Meat. I also enjoy the October episodes of We Hate Movies and Actionboyz (although that one is paid). Dead Meat covers broader topics in horror, while the latter two joke about individual films.

OK, I think I've sent subset links to everyone who requested it. If I missed you, please let me know! And like I said, I'll continue to watch for new requests throughout the challenge.
On a different note, can I tell you how much I love my local movie theater? Their October lineup includes:
- Evil Dead 2 / Cabin in the Woods double feature (with a raffle for a couple ED2 prop replicas)
- Dracula (1931) / Dracula's Daughter double feature
- Young Frankenstein
- Practical Magic (with "cauldron margaritas" available at the concession stand)
- Rocky Horror Picture Show (with shadow cast, prop bags, etc.)
- The Omen (1976)
- HeBGB TV (looks sort of like WNUF but '90s; includes Q&A with directors)
- Exhumed Films 24 Hour Horror-thon
- The Silence of the Lambs
- Hayride to Hell (stars Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder, who will be there for a Q&A)
- Halloween (1978)
- Theater of Blood (includes Q&A with Vincent Price's daughter Victoria)
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Nosferatu (1922) (with live organ accompaniment)

Damn, great picks. I need to get a copy of Escape from New York (although alas, I am not allowed to win these ones ). I'd also like to note that there's zero crossover with any of the stuff I have assembled, also.
