Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 16: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Wow. I've never missed this much planning before! I was all ready with a bunch of COVID-related theme suggestions, but I see that's all taken care of.

I'm always willing to throw out some subset choices. I vote not to start early. I'd rather tack on time at the end (easier to separate stats, too). Like others, I do a lot of prep clearing my DVR and getting ready.

I'm really looking forward to this. Working from home during a horror challenge? I couldn't imagine anything better.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 16: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

*** Quick update on the potential early start date ***

I'm going to announce the outcome around the time I put up the main thread, which will be the usual sometime late this month. Even though it can still go either way, one thing is for certain -- if we do start early, and that's still a big if ...it'll be 2 weeks. There's been enough votes to know that part is definitive. The exact date would be Tuesday 9/15. But again, nothing is confirmed. I just wanna make sure everyone has enough time to have their say as well as adequate time to prepare.

Plus...

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 16: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Darcy announced earlier today there will be another Last Drive-In Halloween special! He already confirmed last year's was his highest ratings-wise, but that was before last Friday's Summer special, which was pretty damn great itself. That one's under season 2, BTW.

Currently the Joe Bob theme is scheduled for 10/25 and will try to move it to whatever the date happens to be ...probably 10/23 or 10/30. If it's the former I'll move it there, but if the latter, well, I guess it'll have to duke it out with Devil's Night. Is that even celebrated anymore?

The $1 price increase I won't complain about considering the amount of content Shudder provides. Also for carrying my main subset pick and Creepshow S2 will be better than the first. At least Greg Nicotero confirmed the Creep will look better.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 16: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I've sat down twice to fill out some picks and can't seem to get it done without interruption, but I plan on sitting down quietly in the next couple of days and filtering through some titles. I like starting early, though I won't have as much free time this year to binge like I have in the past.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 16: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Do we need to choose a video company for #17?

For my picks, I concentrated on the chronological faceoff -- but if someone else is really keen on filling that spot, I can always either provide some other themes these picks could fill, or supply some other choices.

1920
- The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
- Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
- The Golem

1945
- The Picture of Dorian Gray
- The Body Snatcher
- House of Dracula

1970
- The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (L'uccello dalle piume di cristallo)
- Crescendo
- The House That Would Not Die

1995
- Out of the Dark (Wui wan yeh)
- The Prophecy
- Vampire in Brooklyn

Just an FYI since the last pic didn't mention it - looks like there's also going to be an increase in the annual price of Shudder from $49.99 to $56.99.

Spoiler:

Yeah, I keep putting that off.

So far we've had nominations for Vestron and Vidco. Unfortunately the former has already been used and the latter isn't on the list.

We've already covered Vestron Video, Embassy Home Entertainment, Media Home Entertainment, Prism Entertainment, and Thorn EMI/HBO Cannon/HBO Video.

Any nominations?

I just looked at Paragon Video Productions and it looks better than New World Video. I change my suggestion. It would be hard to choose between Lightning Video and Paragon Video.
