Whatever's on post 7 is the most up-to-date version of what I have and don't have. Just any one of the days that don't have assigned dates I'll take suggestions for. Added Octaman.
The 16th could be for it was a dark and stormy night, as it is the darkest night of the month (according to the lunar calender).

There was 42 inche of snow that fell in Lead, South Dakota on October 4th. That may be the record for one day in October (in the United States). I asked for in the world and only received places in the United States.

October 8th is world zombie day. This has probably been used before. This is definitely harder than it looks!

On 6 October 1948, Victor introduced the Hasselblad 1600F. This model – a single-lens, mirror reflex, 6×6 camera with interchangeable Kodak lenses - evidently the first commerical camera. For subjective horror or Deadly Exposure themes.

They Shoot Zombies, Don't they - here is a website that might fit somehow (did I mention this is hard?) https://www.southernthing.com/you-ca...647537637.html

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 16: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Thank you for those ...especially the photo date! I had George Eastman submitting a couple of patents on Oct 14, 1888 but it conflicted with RIP John Saxon.

Probably will go with the NOTLD premiere since there's not many zombie hunts this year due to COVID. I used 10/1 in the past, but I think that's for the Pittsburgh premiere and 10/4 is the main release date. Also World Zombie Day is actually 10/10, at least according to the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/worldzombiedaylondon (Trust me, I've made that mistake many times.) That one unfortunately conflicts with the mass marathon day, the only Saturday left for that spot.

Slashers/giallos/serial killers is pretty flexible since there's so many serial killer birthdays in Oct:

Spoiler:

October

4th
Peter Bryan (1969)

5th
Angelo Buono Jr. “The Hillside Strangler” (1934)

7th
Jeanne Weber “The Ogress” (1874)

8th
Pedro López “The Monster of the Andes” (1948)

10th
Kang Ho-sun (1969)

11th
Craig Price “The Warwick Slasher” (1973)

12th
Ion Rîmaru “The Vampire of Bucharest” (1946)

14th
Bobby Joe Long “The Classified Ad Rapist” (1953)

15th
Guy Georges “The Beast of Bastille” (1962)

16th
Andrei Chikatilo “Butcher of Rostov” (1936)

18th
Zdzisław Marchwicki “Zagłębie Vampire” (1927)

22nd
Václav Mrázek (1925)

23rd
Velma Barfield “Death Row Granny” (1932)

24th
Robert Pickton “The Pig Farmer Killer” (1949)

25th
Fritz Haarman “The Butcher of Hanover” (1879)

29th
Leonard Lake (1945)

31st
Cayetano Santos Godino “Macrotous Runt” (1896)

Still working on the others...

I was going to mention The Lodger for Hitchcock as well. The other one that I think dips just enough into horror is Dial M for Murder. Such great villains in Strangers on a Train and Shadow of a Doubt, but I've never thought of those as horror.

For the checklist pick three you have never seen before I would suggest that we change date to made in the 1980's.

Talking about the 30th year anniversary of Dark Side magazine, I read that one of their long-time fans had put togather an a-z listing of all the issues on facebook. I'm not interested in facebook so I don't know how to look for it but maybe it would help with a checklist listing.

Checklist suggestion:

Director
Brett Leonard
https://www.imdb.com/filmosearch/?ex...&genres=Horror

Norman J. Warren
https://www.imdb.com/filmosearch/?ex...&genres=Horror

Didn't see those 2 on past checklists.

This may be it here: https://thedarksidemagazine.com/dark...stuart-easton/

There’s a PDF there with the listing of films covered.

I think that's from the PDF I posted back in July and completely forget about. Can't believe I've had a link the whole time.

Thank you though.

Let's make that an unwritten title. Those five titles fit perfectly on the silhouette.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 16: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Alright, I *think* everything is filled in and the checklist is done.

I went back and did an overhaul with the 'select 30' titles by rotating and/or replacing a few that were originally themes with newer and unused ones. Many were repeats anyway. Also added "the four seasons of death" as it own category.

Let me know if it is so I can plug into the table and get back to finishing the other stuff.

Everything looks done to me, but I miss one-word title. Still plenty to choose from so it looks ready to button down as far as I can tell.

Hey, I might have missed it but is there a finalized theme/subset list yet? I was doing some pre-challenge planning and noticed that it is still last years list up?

Still working on the theme/subset table and a few of the assigned dates, but the in-no-particular-order subset list is here. The assigned dates I have so far are here.
