I miss the commitment to progress that was a hallmark of the 1970s-- to hear a woman's right to choose, environmental protections, and Indigenous Americans' rights discussed seriously seems jarringly at odds with America 2019. It's also telling of the 1970s that Robert Foxworth as the hero fails to listen to his wife and talks down to her throughout the movie.

Interesting... I can see her wanting that stipulation. Odd part is I first saw the movie on Cinemax or HBO (don't remember which) and that scene was intact. I was quite surprised when I first purchased a DVD of it and the scene was no longer there.

A few months back I snagged a rather inexpensive copy of that MGM DVD with the wrong cut. I'm happy with it but would like a BR. I've looked at some of the foreign discs but am not region free on BR so...

Does anyone know of new streaming horror (like on Netflix) to keep an eye out for? I've cleared out my queue for horror movies, but may have missed something added since the month began (I have seen newer horror In the Tall Grass and The Perfection). Sometimes really good horror premieres closer to Halloween.
I am a Rob Zombie fan and I will honestly say that 31 is my least favorite. I watch and own everything he makes but that's one of his films that I've only ever watched once. I usually watch each one every year. I definitely wouldn't recommend it unless you just want to get it off your watch list. That being said if you've seen House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects then you need to add 3 From Hell to your list because it's definitely worth watching.

31 has nothing to do with House of 1000 Corpses so you don't have to watch in sequence. The only ones you have to watch in sequence are House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and 3 From Hell.

I wouldn't recommend 31 but, you may watch it and enjoy it.

I keep giving Zombie chances, and vaguely recall thinking House of 1000 Corpses showed potential. I don’t say I hate many films, but most of the ones I do are his.

RZ's Halloween came on IFC the other night and I started watching it. Like Spiderbite mentioned earlier in the thread, most of RZ's characters just aren't likable. I turned it off.

Same, thats the one I picked up. But more for the 3D version of 3 which might be one of those features forgotten about in future releases

Wow. Revisited Wishmaster for today's theme and forgot it had so many genre legends in cameos/supporting roles - Robert Englund, Ted Raimi, Tony Todd, Reggie Bannister, Kane Hodder, Angus Scrimm (as the announcer), Tom Savini, Joe Pilato, and Buck Flowers!

There were only 6 I hadn't seen on the Letterboxd list, so today I watched Alone With Her (2006) and Grace (2009). I found neither one particularly "best." They were adequate but I may not be in a hurry to watch the remaining four on the list.

Just finished up Jessabelle (2014). Pretty low-rated movie on imdb that no one ever talks about, but I enjoyed it. It was kind of a weird twist on The Skeleton Key, but at least I didn't predict what was happening. I probably wouldn't purchase it, but it was a decent movie with a weird twist at the end. Worth a rental.

A few years back lrend, a huge RZ fan, loaned (practically forced) me her copies of House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, Halloween, and a few more (I think it was her entire collection). The *only* thing I liked about any of them was Sig Haig's performances and they weren't enough to redeem the movies. I watched the 3 mentioned, barely making it through Halloween, and returned them all with a "Don't ask me to watch any of Zombie's movies ever again. It ain't gonna happen." I felt that Halloween was the best of the 3 and it wasn't that good. His movies are worse than any I consider the worst I've ever seen. Guess you could say I, too, hate his films.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Rob Zombie is a competent director, but a terrible screenwriter. His movies are colorful and music aside, his writing sucks. I'd like to see him direct a movie that he didn't write, but apparently that will never happen, as the episode of CSI Miami he directed (which I've never seen) was described as "the worst two weeks of his life" because he didn't have creative control. What a tool. Actually thinks he should have creative control over one episode of a continuous long-running series. I really believe that Zombie is probably like the characters he writes, which means he'll never grow as a writer/director and will continue to churn out the same white trash/crazy people garbage that he produces. I liked the Devil's Rejects to a certain extent, but if I remember it correctly, it seemed he was trying to glorify these people at the end of the movie with Freebird playing in the background as if they were marytrs going out in a blaze of glory. In reality, they were a bunch of douche bags who should have been put down at the end of their first movie...

Whoa, I typed a lot about Rob Zombie. I'll stop now. Carry on...

I also watched Prophecy and agree it held up well. The bear effects were pretty good. It was a little preachy but any movie with the guts to pull off a mutant killer bear effectively earns the right to nag a little.

Pretty much all of this. And I had heard such good things for 31 as well. Great disappointment.

Zombieland Double Tap was solid entertainment, better than I expected - if anyone is looking for some theatrical fun before the month ends.

I've always been a big fan of Prophecy. Best axe vs chainsaw battle put on film. I've got my pre-order in, and I'm excited to watch it next year.

I'm about 3/4 through with 31, and it's possible to watch a movie where no one is likeable. It's not entirely a bad thing. I watched Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and New Nightmare back to back and I was cheering for everyone to meet their end in one of those.

Check out the axe vs chainsaw fight in Dark of the Sun from Warner Archive.

Frenzy is a good example. Nobody in that movie is likable, yet IMO it's one of Hitch's best thrillers.

After Charlie Brown and Toy Story of Terror last night, I watched Wounds on Hulu. It was . . . something. Armie Hammer plays a New Orleans bartender who finds a message on a patron's lost smartphone which starts him down a path of Lovecraftian revelations. If you are triggered by bugs, do not watch this flick because it is buggier than an Apple iOS update. It's one of those "is he channeling dark gods or is he crazy" plots that just doesn't gel properly.

For the third year in a row, I've watched We Are What We Are (2013). I've always liked the escalating tension coming with the storms. The first time I saw it I felt like I was watching some mystery thriller, but the last 1/3 provided all the horror one needs. I'm curious if anyone has seen the original Mexican version and can comment....

Re: Wishmaster , when I was living in Florida, I went to a local pawn shop on a fairly regular basis. One day I found a two movie disc of the first two. A few years later, I bought 3 and 4 on digital. Have yet to watch the last two though.

Thanks for the heads-up TheBigDave!

I'm torn between Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark and 3 From Hell.
I'm expecting (based on reviews) to be disappointed in 3 From Hell but I know I'm going to check it out eventually. Might as well do it for free, right? But then again I'd hate to waste a free rental......

I loved Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. It got pretty beat-up in the Movie Talk forum. But I thought it was an excellent Halloween movie. It'll be on my annual watch list.

Sweetheart was another great flick. Definitely one of the sleeper hits of the year. If you like monster movies, check it out.
