Again, no worries.

And that was just claimed yesterday, so Halloween is the only theme left. I took a brief hiatus and didn't get a chance to update that post.

Suggestion for 1993 would be The Dark Half by George Romero. It's also one of the better Stephen King adaptations about writers. I checked and we've not used it previously. Could have two Romero films for the same subset.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Possible Checklist anniversaries:
Child's Play and Chucky turn 30
Halloween turns 40 which also makes its sequel H20, 20 years old this year.
Or for a more personal checklist item, maybe participants can watch a movie released the year they were born.

Have you guys ever had William Shatner as an option on the actor's part of the checklist? I've been watching Chuck Dowling's 31 Days of Horror on youtube (only just finished Season 3) and there have been quite a few Shatner films reviewed. On a side note I am very much enjoying his reviews.

Since that's 25, 50, and 200 years, I was trying to come up with 100th-anniversary ideas but not finding much.

Evelyn Ankers was born 100 years ago; she's been on the checklist in the past for the Universal horror films she did in the '40s. Also born in 1918: make-up artist Bud Westmore, with a bunch of horror credits to his name, probably most famously Creature from the Black Lagoon. (Though there is actually a bit of controversy about the credit he gets for that one.) But I don't know if either of those is a big enough name to warrant going in the anniversary section.

WWI ended in 1918, but there aren't that many WWI-themed horror movies.

Here are a few other significant horror-ish events from years ending in 8:
- 1938 (80th anniv): The original War of the Worlds radio broadcast aired.
- 1958 (60th): Famous Monsters of Filmland started publication. (But we did have Forrest Ackerman's 100th bday on the anniversary list in 2016.)
- 1978 (40th): Halloween debuted -- and there's a new one coming out this October that's a direct sequel to the original. (Also, Jamie Lee Curtis was born in 1958, and John Carpenter in 1948.)
- 1988 (30th): MST3K debuted.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Hey, Chad. You've said we're ahead of schedule. What *is* the target date for giving us the Subset list? And if we hit that date and we're still waiting on one person to give recs for one theme night, can you give us the other 30 titles?

It would be awesome to have time to order some new discs and to figure out what else I'm watching to sync with the checklist before the challenge starts. I'll be travelling some during the month, so I'll need to plan carefully.

We have less than 3 weeks to go. Going home tonight to sort through some stacks to start making a plan. This will likely fall apart day one.

I just watched American Psycho 2 last week as a first time view. I loved it.

I'll be posting the bare-bones subset list tonight, and that's regardless of the last pick's status. And yes, that does include the crossovers, so get your votes in if you haven't already. They'll be accepted up to the very last minute as always.

The plan for the start of the checklist construction is tomorrow night.

Great stuff.

And don't believe we've had Shatner. I'll add it as a suggestion.

And here's the subset list (minus one) with the majority in no particular order.

A few classics, modern, psychotronic, gory, Gothic, obscure, erotic, animated, avant-garde, cheesy, a rock opera, and some cocaine-induced ineptitude that's so bad it's good. And quite a few have recent first-time Blu-ray releases and upgrades. Comments welcome.

Great list! There are a handful that Iíve been meaning to watch this season. My Son of Dracula and Cujo Blu-ray Discs have remained unplayed since their own purchase date and Iíve never seen all of Maximum Overdrive. Hopefully this season will be different.

Wow. Some honest to goodness favorites in that lineup. One of the strongest I can recall. My pick will be one of the more divisive, I think.

I've already seen #16-#28, but quite a bit between #2 & #13 will be new to me. Looking forward to those. BTW, I STILL can't believe Silver Bullet hasn't got the special/collector's treatment yet. Friggin' Paramount.

Great list, very excited. I hope people don't mind that my pick Who Can Kill a Child? was remade as Come Out and Play, which was one of our subset picks a few years ago (2013?). I thought it'd be fun to go back and watch the original this year, and Mondo Macabro just put it out on Blu-ray.

I'm almost finished with the montage for last year's subset challenge.

Interesting list! There are lots I wouldn't have picked for myself, so it will stretch my horizons in a good way. October will be fun. :-)
