He's been added.

But that does present another question - how do we add him to theme nights?
And how do we do it without losing anything?

Taking Romero off zombies and doing a 'R.I.P. Romero/Hooper' theme, which means combining a couple of similar themes ...slime/goo/toxic waste with Splatter/Gore, maybe?

Tack him on another theme like with Romero/Zombies? If so, which one?

Ideas?

I think each deserve their own unique nights; no topical theme, just these men.

FYI, this is not a vampire movie. It's about a snake-worshipping priestess and her god, the Dampton Wyrm.

My subset picks
1. 1980's Video Companies Spotlight: Media Home Entertainment /Video Stores--Day of the Dead (1985), Streaming at shoutfactorytv.com
2. Slime/Goo--The Fly (1986)
3. Pregnancy Horror--The Void (2016). Streaming on Netflix
4. Friends 'till the End--The Good, The Bad & The Imaginary: Lights Out (2017) Cinemax, Showtime
5. Mummies--The Mummy (1999). Streaming on Cinemax
6. Vampires--Scream, Blacula, Scream. TCM 10/14. We've done Blacula, but this is the sequel, and it stars Pam Grier!
7. Latin Horror--Cronos (1993). Could also be Vampire or Criterion Crossover
8. Small Town Horror--Get Out (2016). On demand.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

I've got to join Trevor and GoBear in their regard for George Romero and Tobe Hooper; each was influential enough to deserve his own night for us to honor him.

I'm fine (as would be, I think, any true horror film fan) with losing themes to honor these two directors. Just jettison the two lowest vote-getters for new theme and slot them into their places. Hopefully we can pick up the abandoned themes next year.

As to subset film picks for them, they each had sufficiently-deep filmographies for us to still find films to watch. For Romero, we haven't used The Crazies, Martin, Day of the Dead, Monkey Shines, Two Evil Eyes, The Dark Half, Bruiser, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, or Survival of the Dead; for Hooper, we haven't yet used Eaten Alive, 'Salem's Lot, Lifeforce, Invaders from Mars, TCM 2, Spontaneous Combustion, The Toolbox Murders, Mortuary, and about a half-dozen more.

Sounds good to me. If that's the case, the lowest vote-getter was Horrorspondents. The second lowest was (of course) a 3-way tie between One-Word Titles, Random Maniacal Mashup of Insane Indecisiveness 2 and Fire Bad. I turned to our good friend Random.org (because I'm sure everyone's sick of voting) and say goodbye to one-word titles.

Spoiler:
There were 9 items in your list. Here they are in random order:

Fire Bad!
Random Maniacal Mashup of Insane Indecisiveness 2
One-Word Titles
Fire Bad!
Random Maniacal Mashup of Insane Indecisiveness 2
One-Word Titles
Random Maniacal Mashup of Insane Indecisiveness 2
One-Word Titles
Fire Bad!

Timestamp: 2017-08-27 23:31:39 UTC

Just to recap...

R.I.P. George A. Romero and R.I.P. Tobe Hooper will be added (each separately).

Horrorspondents and One-Word Titles will be deleted.

Everyone cool this this? (the correct answer is yes)

Yes, of course. We can always revisit those themes next year. I already mentioned Day of the Dead for the 1980s VHS night, but we could use it for George. I nominate Lifeforce for Tobe.

Fwiw, TCM and NotLD were both released on an October 1st, so if that day isn't already taken with another theme, maybe it can be one of those directors.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Here are some of my subset suggestions in no particular order, I've enjoyed each of them in the past but to each his own:

Mexico Barbaro - Hispanic, Folklore, Anthology (streams on Netflix & Shudder)
Blood Punch - Female Director, Supernatural, Drugs [not necessarily hallucinatory] (Streaming on Amazon Prime, Hulu, Thriller TV, & TubiTV)
+1 [Plus One] (2013) - Dopplegangers, Parties, Drugs (streaming on Shudder)
Inner Demons - Friends, Drugs, Demonic (streaming on Hulu)
The Revenant (2009) - Friends, Zombies (streaming on Shudder & some Roku channel called OvGuide)
The Bay (2012) - Small Town (streaming on Amazon Prime, Hulu, Epix)
Undead (2003) - Small Town, Zombies (streaming on Shudder)

I approve of the Romero and Hooper additions and ditching other themes, good call.
Can provide alternate subset picks if needed.

Totally cool with this, but I didn't think those 2 had made the recently posted list?

One of them just died today.
Edit to add: Reading fail, I apologize tarfrimmer. In my partial defense I'm working way too much and not sleeping nearly enough.

I think what Tarfrimmer is correctly pointing out is that there are 33 themes listed as those in post 6 (31 October nights + 2 xovers); not including one word titles, Romero, Hooper, or horrorspondents. Seemingly 2 additional themes would need to be removed to make way to Romero and Hooper (if we separate Romero out from zombies). Good catch.

Ah, I read it wrong then, and don't even look at those lists when I know Chad is in constant edit mode. Sorry tar.

That's correct. I just axed the bottom vote-getters of the ones that were already axed.

It was a 4-way tie between The Horrors of USA Up All Night, Horror Films with Synth Scores, The 1950's and Slime, Goo & Toxic Waste, and the latter two are the actual casualties.

Personally I could stand to lose USA Up All Night and 1950s (we already have 1950s checklist and 1967 which is retro).

I agree. It would be a shame to lose the Slime/Goo movies. That's an actual theme, which could make a good double feature.

Up All Night is just a random selection of flicks. And you can choose to watch 50's movies on almost any theme night.

I'll happily replace USA Up All Night with Slime/Goo/Toxic Waste. Just need a bit more feedback on it.

It's currently an open spot. It's probably best to put whatever places Romero and Zombies the farthest distance apart like we did with Fanaticism Horror and the Devil's Night theme last year.
