Thank you very much! I shall politely pass the buck, both because I already own the titles offered and because I was lucky enough to be chosen last month, too! (Surely karma will reward me in October.......)
Thanks! It was a very enjoyable month's viewing.

Re: The 7th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
I just watched Pokémon Origins on Amazon Prime, all four episodes. As far as I know these were never shown on U.S. TV. It's like a version of the series aimed at adolescents and teens, definitely darker, more emotional and imbued with tragic undercurrents. It's quite good, but I don't know why they only did four episodes. Based on the Red and Blue games, the story content could have easily filled a whole season, but they crammed a lot of important stuff into quick montages at the beginning of each episode. Some characters from the main series make cameo appearances like Misty, or are supporting characters, like Brock, Giovanni and Professor Oak. The main character is Red, an older version of Ash, and his rival is Blue.
Aside from that I've been watching old Shaw Bros. movies, some of which don't fit any challenges. I own over 400 Shaw Bros. DVDs and I still have over 100 that I haven't yet seen. Plus I want to re-watch most of the ones I've seen. This could take years.

Besides May perhaps? Or the possible new drama one? But I'm curious, give me a few titles and maybe I can make them fit somewhere.
Back on topic, I'm not sure how I feel about the last item I watched for this Animation Challenge, the Criterion BD of Fantastic Planet. I took me awhile to get into it, then it fully pulled me in, but I'm not so sure about the conclusion. Perhaps I'll flesh it out a bit this month with the supplements.

THE YELLOW MUFFLER, a fluffy musical, and KING DRUMMER, a drama about a jazz drummer and a concert pianist, are two of the ones that are hard to fit. I didn't know about the drama challenge. When is that?

Re: The 7th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
I saw KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS yesterday. Mix of stop-motion and CGI. I found the storyline too abstract. I never quite grasped it. I wish it had been done by the Japanese and been in Japanese with English subs. The American voice-actors and the modern slang and phraseology threw me off. In Japanese, any modern slang would be unknown to me, so I wouldn't be able to tell. The end credits are animated in 2-D in the style of Japanese woodblock prints and I wish the whole movie had been done that way. There are also story/character elements that struck me as distinctly un-Japanese.

I watched The Killing Joke and Assault on Arkham too late to count for the challenge.

Pardon the interruption, but of interest to Challengers might be a discussion we're having in the Challenge Compendium thread about whether to add a new Challenge. Can everyone please take a second and vote in the poll? Thanks!

Re: The 7th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
I apologize. I said I was going to post the updated list here and totally forgot to do it.
I basically did a little rearranging, some alphabetizing and mashed all the icheckmovies together. I also added a bonus at the end that I thought might appeal to some people. I have not added any names to the checklist but will post them after the list for people to think about till next year.
Please let me know if you spot anything off (I found a double name that made it through this whole challenge! Whoops!). Thanks, guys!
Names for consideration: Will Friedle, Alan Oppenheimer
Studio: Filmation

I think you have caught the spirit of the suggestion quite well. I don't have any adjustments to it.

Add Filmation to the studio list? The documentaries on the He-Man sets showed me how influential they were with cartoon violence, keeping animation jobs in America instead of overseas like other companies were doing, creating the concept of syndicating He-Man and getting everyone else to try and copy their success, and the toy/cartoon connection, among other things.

Laika might not have enough titles to be a checklist studio.

I received my prize package in the mail today. I know I will keep the Plymptoons for next year's challenge but I am debating on whether to watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the Academy Awards Challenge or keep it for next year's Animation Challenge also. I love having tom make decisions like that! Thanks again to GoldenWheels for their contributions!

I'm only seeing 4 (Boxtrolls, Kubo, Coraline and ParaNorman) so I think I agree with you. I think in the future, however, that they may well be added to the checklist. Out of the 3 I've watched, I really enjoyed 2 and was impressed by the look of the 3rd. I still want to see Kubo before it leaves theaters but just haven't had time yet.
