Sadly, there is no more. Rumors pop up every so often (animated series was the most recent), and there are some comic books but I haven't really gotten into those.

That's why I keep rewatching Serenity.

I've been stuck on the new series of Doctor Who and its amazing hope big a jump in quality it was from s1 to s2. I had been stuck on s1 forever lol some of the episodes were sooo corny(the WW3 ones).

I just saw "The Impossible Planet/ "The Satan Pit" and it was just amazing. Can't wait to watch more, sfx has been so much better in s2 heh

The two-disc DVD for Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea contains an extensive gallery of production documents, including many callsheets and descriptive documents (press materials, perhaps). It allows you to see the precise dates much of the action was filmed, as well as the place - 20th Century Fox's lake, for instance.

More interestingly, the notes claim that the airhose-free diving suits created for the film were "believed to be the first practical self-contained diving suits ever invented."

(Plus the lines that say: "For the meek and mild-mannered Conseil... Producer Disney - to the surprise of most every casting director in town - chose Peter Lorre..." and after saying that Kirk Douglas vetoed his songs being dubbed, despite not liking his singing voice, it quotes him thus "After all, a couple of crooners named Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra suddenly went 'straight' and walked off with Oscars for their performances. If they can invade our field, I don't see why we can't retaliate." )

Hmm.. that reminds me to ask a general question about "Spy-fi": where does that sit as regards to this challenge?

My default thought would be that the Bonds are out because they're "real"(ish), The Avengers is in, The Prisoner is borderline, and then extrapolate from there.

Not that I'm wanting for things to watch, but I thought I'd raise it anyway!

watched a couple Harry Potter films for the first time since seeing them in the theater. Goblet of Fire was better than I remembered it. I didn't remember that David Tannant and Robert Pattinson were in this film. Order of the Phoenix was about 20 minutes too long. One of these years I'll actually read the books. The internet can't seem to decide whether the Harry Potter franchise is high fantasy or dark fantasy.

Actually, my kids watch Castle and love it. Our family watched EVERY episode of Chuck as they aired on TV and again on blu-ray as soon as each season was released! We all loved it. I haven't looked to see how it is classified on IMDB, but I would have naturally assumed that Chuck would qualify.

On the other hand, I know nothing about Suits at all. Is it any good?

Definitely eligible for this month would be Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog! Maybe I should watch that for about the 12th time. It was funny how many times I said stuff like "Get 'im, Captain Hammer!" while watching Firefly!

Anyway, another great show mishandled by the Fox network. How they thought showing the episodes in such a bazaar order, so you couldn't follow the character development at all, is baffling...

I'd be willing to allow some SPy Fi, like Avengers maybe Prisoner, Mission Impossible.

I watched The Prisoner for the challenge a few years ago, and it never even crossed my mind that it might not qualify.

I vote high fantasy. Dark would be if it had an element of horror to it and I don't see any horror in the bad guys, just the occasional danger. The Beyond is dark fantasy. The Beyond is not Harry Potter.

Last night I started watching the MST3K Rocket Men From the Moon set. Glad I discovered how to get it.

I just got my copy of Total Recall (1990). Now I'm ready for an Arnold Marathon with Total Recall, The Running Man, the first 3 Terminators, Conan the Barbarian (1982), Conan the Destroyer, and Predator.

The Prisoner (1967) is listed as Sci-Fi at IMDB, *some* Bond films qualify. Moonraker does and I'm sure there's at least one more. The Avengers (60s-70s TV series) also carries a Sci-Fi genre tag at IMDB. The only one on your list that's out is the Mission Impossible TV series. I don't know about the films.

No Terminator Salvation?

Yesterday got a couple movie watches in. The Ice Pirates and Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace. The first is just a fun, cheesy goodness that I recommend. It has Anjelica Houston, Ron Perlman and Robert Urich plus Bruce Vilanch! How could a person go wrong? Basically, it's a mid-80s b-movie where water is scarce and heavily controlled. So there are a lot of pirates (Space pirates!) that attack other ships for their cargo. Meanwhile, a princess is searching for her father. The pirates are more likely to use swords than laser blasters, but they have those too. It's great fun.

Star Wars, on the other hand, well...I enjoyed the pod race. I don't think I've watched it since it first came out and I'm not sure parts aged well. Jar Jar Binks could just be erased completely and the whole movie would jump up about 3 stars in my opinion. The CGI holds up well, though, which is good. I enjoyed Natalie Portman in this and really think that the kid who played Anakin is tons better than the "teen" Anakin-Hayden Christensen. I think they chose poorly with him.

This week is a bit of time off from Trek as both Travis and I are gone at different times, so we'll start again next week. Trying to cross off as much of the checklist I can, though...Hmm, what to watch this afternoon...

For the most part I agree fully. My grandson *loves* this film. He also likes Jar-Jar Binks. I've tried to change his mind but at 9 years old he's in the target age for that film. I really didn't care much for the kid but he *is* less wooden an actor than Christensen. At least I *finally* got him to understand why you do *NOT* want to watch the Star Wars saga in numerical order.

No Red Sonja, The Sixth Day, or Hercules in New York?

Might do SIxth Day as I see it is on Netflix. Unless the others are, that'd be a no.

I LOVE the whole fight scene towards the end-just every bit of it.

Yeah, 4, 5 and 6 will always be "Star Wars" to me. The other three have very little redeeming quality for me. I'm interested in how Disney handles the next one, but not counting on anything.

Okay, question. Just finished watching Transformers: The Movie. The one from the 80s and was curious if this qualifies for the robot/Android check or for the cyborg/cybernetic check or both. The Transformers are considered robots, right? And then Daniel and Spike are in robot suits, so that's cyborg, right? Or do the mechanical parts have to be part of their body, like a replacement arm?

Huh, never thought about Chuck for this challenge. I'd like to rewatch the series but have other priorities right now.

My kids' favorite show is Castle, and I got in trouble once from a fellow parent who didn't want us showing their kid Castle. Oops.

Now that you've seen Firefly, did you rewatch the opening of the Vampire Weekend episode?



That's been on my to-watch list for this challenge for years. That's a lot of wasted regret if it didn't qualify.

Same here on "Star Wars". I, too, am interested in the Disney handling of the franchise but have little hope based on how the Mouse Factory has handled several recent properties.

Transformers are robots (Sing along everyone! - Transformers... robots in disguise...).

A cyborg is a being with both organic and cybernetic parts. The mechanical/electronic parts must be melded with the body. Think Steve Austin (Six Million Dollar Man). Technically someone with a pacemaker implanted is a cyborg. Wearing a robot suit does not make one a cyborg.

I've not seen the film but based on your description I'd say it only qualifies for the "Robot/Android" checklist item.

Sorry I missed your post LJG, but you can use Transformers the Movie for the robots check.

Thanks, guys, that is what I thought, then I started second guessing myself. While I admit to enjoying the recent movies, Transformers were really not my thing. Give me He-Man and She-Ra any day!

As for the Disney treatment-they did OK with the Avengers, I thought, but Star Wars seems to have this curse with getting any quality "sequels" past the original Trilogy.
