Re: DVDs you would have bought but are now OOP?

I'm sure I told this story a million times before, but I worked at Sam Goody from around late 2001 to late 2002, and I can vividly remember the covers of various out of print wwf DVDs: WrestleMania XV, WrestleMania 2000, WrestleMania X-Seven, and everything in between. I even remember opening up a box of DVDs, seeing The Rock facing off against Hulk Hogan, and asking a co-worker (who was into wrestling, "The Rock fought Hulk Hogan?"

Only about three or four years later, they would all be ridiculously out of print, and I'd kill to get them new and sealed. Luckily, I was able to get WM 2000, X7, and X8, but I paid a lot more for those last two than I would have in 2002.

I have quite a few OOP titles and have purchased a few. Right now, I'm trying to get the OOP releases of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The amount that Vol. 9 and (sometimes) Vol. 10 fetch on eBay is crazy!

This is being released again soon by Discotek. While I have the old Image disc (one of my best blind buys ever), I cannot wait for the new remastered DVD. I've stopped buying DVDs for the most part, but this will be mine.

A movie I sold and purchased again recently after learning it is OOP is Manji (Japanese movie directed by Yasuzo Masumura).

It was distributed by MGM and is OOP. Every site I've been to has said this in some way: "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer."

There is a Gene Hackman Triple Feature still in print though, that includes this title.

EDIT: It appears that, according to Amazon.com, both versions (2) of Mississippi Burning "has been discontinued by the manufacturer."

Re: DVDs you would have bought but are now OOP?

About a year ago there were ALOT of OOP dvds that I needed but I started trading or reselling other OOP dvds(that I could find) and using that money or dvd to get ones I needed. I still need a few WWF/WWE dvds and a few regular dvds, like Night of the Demons, Gamera 3, I've Been Waiting for You, Cabin by the Lake and the Humanoids from the Deep remake. I no longer pass on a older horror movie that I want, because if I do it usaully goes OOP the next month it seems. Night of the Demons comes to mind, also Quicksilver Highway.

Re: DVDs you would have bought but are now OOP?

I have a lot of DVDs that are now OOP, so I feel good about picking them up in Chinatown when I did. I've reviewed a lot of Hong Kong and Japanese DVDs on Amazon and they invariably say "currently unavailable" or "this item has been discontinued by the manufacturer" not long after I've posted the review.

You can still find those SEs. While they aren't labeled as part of the "Five Star Collection," the disc content is the same.

"Jude," based on the Thomas Hardy novel "Jude the Obscure," directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Kate Winslet and Christopher Eccleston.

Doctor Who fans might be interested in the fact that this movie also has David Tennant in it, and is the only time he and Eccleston share a scene.

The DVD was non-anamorphic (unfortunate, as this film has Kate's best nude scene) and was released by USA/Polygram and went out of print very quickly when the studio changed hands.

As Criterion has released "Last Days of Disco" (same studio, also went out of print under the same circumstances), I'm holding out hope that Criterion puts this out.

The Entity. Went from 6.00 to nearly 30.00 overnight after going OOP. Fortunately I got Night of the Demons right before the same thing happened.

Re: DVDs you would have bought but are now OOP?

In June I finally found a copy of FM at a pawn shop for three bucks. It wouldn't play in any of my dvd players. I cleaned and resurfaced it still no luck. Then last week I found another copy at a different pawn shop. Same exact problem. I guess I was never meant to own this movie.
I had no idea Night Of The Demons was OOP. I just saw a copy at my local B&M record store.

That's crazy. Over the past couple months I've run across that film twice used at local stores.

One had it for $10 and the copy I picked up a couple months ago was $3.95 at another. It pays to be around stores that don't price used DVD's based on Ebay prices.

As for OOP DVD's I would've bought:

August Underground: Snuff Edition
The Killer: Criterion Collection
Hard Boiled: Criterion Collection
Final Exam
Drive-In Cult Classics: Vol. 4
Sorority House Massacre 1 & 2
Internal Affairs Box Set (9 Discs)

Just recently got $75 for my copy of FM. Used.
