Release date was yesterday. I tried to order a copy from Deep Discount. It's on backorder. Wondering if i should cancel and try getting a copy somewhere else.

I always look at Amazon, DD and BB when ordering dvds and when I saw that both were back-ordered at DD & BB, I paid the extra couple of bucks to Amazon. Ordered both my Dad and I a copy. They shipped yesterday so I should have them tomorrow. I wasn't going to let this one slip by.
First the BD gets canceled and then other places seem to have a hard time getting it. This may be tough to find in a few months for whatever reason and I didn't want to take that risk. Hope I am wrong.

Watched this last night and just have to comment that they picture quality is really good. When you are used to seeing it on a muddy VHS tape that has been worn out over the years, the new transfer looks near perfect. I remembered the picture being almost so dark that you sometimes had trouble seeing what was going on in some scenes. Not anymore. Clear as a bell. The 5.1 sound isn't as bad as I expected it to be though of course the surrounds aren't used a ton. I didn't try the mono track.
It also has a commentary track I have yet to listen as well. The most fun extra is the quick CBS movie promo that used to run right before movies like these. I remember it well and found myself humming the quick tune by the end.

I decided to cancel my order with Deep Discount. I've heard too many negative things about them lately. I placed an order with Amazon. I hope this works better. I'm tired of watching my old copy that i recorded off TBS over twenty years ago.

My copy arrived in the mail today from Barnes and Noble. I remember watching this as a kid when it premiered on CBS. I'm curious as to why others are under the impression that this title may eventually go OOP fairly soon. It seems to be selling quite well, especially on Amazon.

I just got it in the mail from Netflix. I'll check it out tomorrow. I hope the transfer is decent, but anything will be better than the 3rd generation VHS copy I'm used to watching.

Have not read this thread.
I have been seeing ads for this everywhere and thought it was just another one of those current low budget horror films based on the cover art.
But was schooled this weekend about it at the Horror/Sci-Fi con.
It is now on my 'to buy' list.

I'm not sure how I missed this when I was 13 years old. I was slightly underwhelmed but I thought it was a treat nonetheless, particularly with Charles Durning and Larry Drake's performances.
Speaking of TV horror, where is a DVD release of The Legend of Lizzie Borden starring Elizabeth Montgomery?

I preordered this a month in advance from DeepDiscount. They STILL haven't gotten any in stock to ship to me.
I have a large backlog of unwatched stuff, so it's not the end of the world... but it is pretty frustrating to still be waiting a month after release for it to even ship. I may just cancel and buy it at Amazon.

I'm only placing one more order with DD (25% Sale) and that's it for good. I recently put 25 dvds in my card and 20 of them were Backordered. Keep in mind, like DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW, they still haven't received any in stock since it's street date.

Re: Dark Night Of The Scarecrow(1981)
Finally ordered it and watched it last night for the first time in 25 years or so. I watched it alone, to see if it stands up against my 11-year old mind which saw it in 1981, and to avoid disparaging comments from my wife, who never saw it and, I fear, would mock it and ruin the reunion I was having with the film.
So I watched it alone, and had a few chuckles despite myself. Don't get me wrong - I'll show this to my son when he turns 11, as I'm sure he'll love it. But I won't waste my wife's time because I know she'll find it corny and laughable. I was chuckling myself over how Hazelwig never, and I mean never, takes off his stupid mailman uniform. How he goes and digs up a grave not only in his mailman uniform, but drives his mailman truck with incriminating shovels and dirt! In a small town, how can you not point out that the ONLY MAILMAN IN TOWN was out in the dead of night doing God-knows-what. Haw-haw.
The finale, where instead of Hazelwig zig-zagging or cutting to the left or right to avoid the tractor, he just slowly stays directly in front of it. Hmmm.
There's a lot to love about this film, if you've grown up with it, but try putting yourself in someone's shoes who never saw it and would be seeing it for the first time as an adult. I don't think it would work for them. It was cool seeing Marlon Brando's sister as Bubba's mother. I enjoyed the work of the little girl, particularily when the pedophile mailman (my main man Charles Durning) was talking to her alone in the hall during the Halloween party (and he was a pedophile, which I didn't pick up on when I was a kid - old lady Ritter called him out on that). It was fun seeing the prosecutor from "My Cousin Vinny" as Hazelwig's friend.
Otis Hazelwig - what a character! This film would have not been as memorable or special had Charles Durning took a pass on it. Between being a closet drinker and living in that Boarding House, and how he'd give that little smirk whenever he was in trouble - man oh man. And, knowing what I know now about him being a pedophile, I see he was actually jealous of Bubba's friendship with Marylee. Otis wanted what Bubba had, abeit the innocence, yet Otis Hazelwig was kind of living the life of a child himself by living in a Boarding House, being "served by a mother" and having no responsiblities other than his mailman job. Obviously Hazelwig loathed himself, as evidenced by his closet drinking habits.
I love the film, but I have to consider this a "guilty pleasure," as I think I would be mocked if I tried to show this film to friends and family who didn't grow up on it.

Mine was a floater but played ok. Pretty good movie. Commentary is rather drab.
