Re: Dark Night Of The Scarecrow(1981)
The DVD release looks promising for Halloween '10:
Could this be any longer overdue? What many consider one of the top ten made for TV horror movies the 'Dark Night of the Scarecrow' is one of those rare gems that gets better and better with age...
Follow up:
Scarecrow stars Charles Durning as Otis P. Hazelrigg who wrongly accuses and executes Bubba Ritter (Larry Drake aka Dr. Giggles), a mentally challenged man, for raping a young girl. When Hazelrigg and his group of vigilantes escape murder charges, they start to dying one by one while being stalked by a mysterious scarecrow, Hazelrigg must figure out who is behind the scarecrow’s revenge before he is the next victim.
Image Entertainment is planning a special edition DVD release of the long anticipated creepy classic to DVD this fall fully restored and remastered just in time for the Halloween season. Expect to hear more about it as further details begin to emerge.
Stay tuned for more information as we get it.

I have an old VHS recording off TV and never dreamed it would actually one day get a home video release. Apparently others regard it as fondly as I do, but until now I had thought I was the only one who even remembered it.

Just found this , for anyone in Texas who can't wait till the Fall.
www.texasfrightmareweekend.com
Longtime TFW sponsor VCI Entertainment has informed us that they will release the classic TV horror movie Dark Night of the Scarecrow for the first time ever on DVD. Their new disc (due to release this fall) will include never before seen cut footage as well as special features and more.
The good news doesn't stop there! Texas Frightmare Weekend will be the only place to see this lost classic in all it's UNCUT, fully remastered glory between now and it's fall DVD release! As part of this exclusive screening of Dark Night of the Scarecrow, writer/creator JD Feigelson will also be on hand to meet fans at the southwest's premier horror convention and film festival. JD has also given us word that he'll be accompanied by a...er...special friend.

VCI is proud to announce a special DVD release of one of "the best made for television horror films ever!" (Donald Guarisco, AMG Review) DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW has achieved a cult status and spawned multiple fansites pushing for the DVD release! When young Marylee Williams (Tonya Crowe) is found viciously mauled, all hell breaks loose in her small rural town. Officious Post Master Otis P. Hazelrigg (Charles Durning) leads a gang of bigots in pursuit of the suspect, her mentally challenged friend Bubba Ritter (Larry Drake). Finding him hiding inside a scarecrow, they exact brutal mob “justice”…only to discover a tragic mistake! Now a strange apparition stalks the land seeking each of them out, and the legend of the Scarecrow begins. DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW has been remastered in high definition from the 35mm negative with a new 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound Mix. Plus the disc will include a never-before-seen deleted scene that was added back in the movie. Special Features include a commentary with director Frank De Felitta and writer J.D. Feigelson, plus the original CBS promo for the movie, as well English and Spanish subtitles. The disc streets on 9/28/10 and will retail for $19.99.

Definitely looking forward to this release. I remember seeing this probably on TNT and/or TBS, not sure, but for a low-budget TV movie, it was actually quite good.

Dark Night Of The Scarecrow still shows a release date for dvd at Amazon for 9-28-10 but I don't see a listing for the Blu-ray. Has anyone heard if they canceled the BD release?
There was an ad in the recent HorrorHound magazine that still showed it being release on BD but it is strange it is not showing on Amazon if that is the case.
Here's a review of the dvd but no mention of the BD.

I'll still buy the dvd if the BD is not coming but I can't seem to find any concrete answers if it was abandoned or not.

just a few more days. can't wait. Charles Durning was my darling growing up. Between this and The Muppet Movie, he was in my orbit as an 11-year old TV-addict.

I'm in for a copy. My gf is taking an acting class taught by Larry Drake and he already signed my copy of Dr. Giggles... I might see if it's possible to get him to sign this too.
