We could go down in DVDTalk history as the first worthwhile use of the groups forum.

Re: Criterion Film Club
I'd be interested. I don't have a HUGE number of Criterions in my collection (as of tonight, I have 85, along with a couple of titles in versions other than the Criterion, such as The Long Good Friday and Hard Boiled), but most of what I don't have, I could Netflix...

Re: Criterion Film Club
I think putting this in the group forums would be a huge negative. I was thinking that the dvd forum would be best since we're covering all the aspects of a Criterion release.

I think it would be cool if a random number was chosen and we watched whichever DVD has that spine number.
We could use this random number generator.

I'd be interested. I don't have a very large collection of Criterion's but i'd do my best to rent the ones I want to see.
I can just see the Netflix people now when 50 requests for some rarely rented criterion comes up.

I would be very interested. Please make this available to the "gen pop" of DVDTalk!
This would be great for checking out some foreign films / obscure titles that others (and I) keep meaning to check out but just never seem to get to.

Re: Criterion Film Club
Exactly. This will be a great incentive to actually watch the Criterions I have bought but never bothered to watch. Although I only have like 35 of them, so I will be hitting up Netflix a lot I guess.

This could be a lot of fun. I've watched most of my Criterions, but this would be a great reason to rewatch ones I probably haven't put in a DVD player in years.

Re: Criterion Film Club
I mean ..I have a few Criterions, but I know that I will have to use Netflix and the library to get some titles.
Or will an index/list be made prior to September or whenever this thing gets rolling?
Sorry for any ignorance but I've never done a challenge/club/ _____ like this before.
Thanks

Gglass, I don't think you need to bother with a random number generator. No one is going to complain about the order in which they joined the "join the club" thread or how long it takes to get to their pick.

Re: Criterion Film Club
Alright, alright. But still, is there is definitive plan as to film frequency? I recall hearing something about 1 per day as opposed to 1 per week - the latter according to gglass in the sign up thread.

Re: Criterion Film Club
the club will be once per week. you'll have about a week to get the film, and then we'll discuss on the weekend. theroretically, that should be plenty of time to get the dvd

Re: Criterion Film Club
Just some random thoughts/ideas. Feel free to ignore it all.
In theory, if everyone makes their choices, you could have the schedule up months in advance. Say 45 people sign up in your other thread, and make their selections, you could have a 45 week schedule in a post in the master club thread. This will give people plenty of time to plan their purchases, renting, or borrowing.
Start each week's selection thread on Monday, saving plot discussion until the weekend. That thread and discussion on that specific film might last one day, or months.
Did you decide which forum? I imagine reviews and recommendations for the weekly threads, while the master thread can stay here for more exposure.
