Re: DVD Cataloging - What Program Do You Use?
I use eXtreme Movie Manager, before that (2005) I had DVD Profiler but suddenly stop working and decided to look for another option, and surfing the internet I found eXtreme (it only cost $13.00), and I love the fact that you can have different databases (example: DVD's, Divx, BluRay etc. and movies of your hard drives), and have integrated an interface with Media Center when your want to see a movie of your hard drive.
The Co, the printer options is only for labels. I resolve this problem exporting the database to excel and print the archive, and I love it. Now apart of my normal backup with extreme I have my movies saved in excel.
Also you can import database for others programs including DVD Profiler , but in my case don't worked, I think is because my backup is from and old version of DVD Profiler.
Well still I very pleased with eXtreme Movie Manager.

Didnt think anyone did this. Between the full list and the loaned out list, every dvd in teh collection is accounted for at least once a year.

Invelos (makers of DVD Profiler) have an iPhone / iPod Touch app in development. No idea when it will be released.

Anyone know of a good site that also allows using a bar-code scanner? I own one and figured that'd help ease the adding of 1,500+ DVDs.

Re: DVD Cataloging - What Program Do You Use?
I'm looking for a cataloging site that lets me search by UPC and also tells me how many others have each DVD.
Thanks, JackBurton. I didn't realize that DVDaf told you how many others had the disc. Appreciate the info!
Navinabob, I think you can use one with iTrackMine, too.

Re: DVD Cataloging - What Program Do You Use?
I use the paid version of DVD Profiler and have for many years. Right now I am looking for a "REPORT FORM" which will list each movie and who has watched it and how many times (the date watched would be good). Know what I mean? I use the "DVD" and "Watched By" menu features of DVD Profiler and I want to print a summary of the HISTORY. I know that I can create my own report form and I might have to do that, but I don't want to reinvent the bicycle if it's already been invented. I checked DVD Profiler online and searched for a report form which does what I want, but their search function leaves much to be desired and I came up with no results.
Thanks in advance.

Showing up just fine on my computer too. Maybe smashthesymbols happened to look when the server was down or something weird.

Still not working for me in Firefox. All the images come back as 403 Forbidden. Works in IE though and it looks damn good.

Looks like Collectorz is having a "rebate" which is $10 off... Still not sure when I am going to pull the trigger and change from a text list... But it is getting tempting....

No system for me. TV shows alphabetical on one shelf; Movies alphabetical on another couple of shelves. I cataloged CDs years ago on index cards. A total pain and it ended up being useless.

I wanted to do that but i have too many sets that include either TV episodes and movies (ex: ace ventura set / toxic avenger set). or some that include theatrical movies and made for TV movies (ex: revenge of the nerd set / some scooby doo sets). Those sets ruin that kind of sorting for me. lol.

I prefer every film in its own slimcase, all arranged alphabetically.
But do I put BD and HD-DVD in with the DVDs? If not, some trilogies or sets are broken up in different areas.
How do you deal with double/triple features with all the films on one disc or in one case? Alphabetical by first title? But then browsing the shelves for the later movies is difficult.
Box sets are difficult. Some are in individual cases and the films can be separated and sorted alphabetically, but many aren't.
I'm sure it's just part of my OCD/hoarding/collector behavior, but I'm continually changing the way I organize stuff on my shelves. There are just SO many different genres, formats, spelling rules, size restrictions, boxset problems, etc.
The answer for someone with thousands of DVDs and no photographic memory is obviously a software solution of sorts. Back when I had everything in DVDspot, I'd look there first for a film. Then, if it wasn't found alphabetically, i knew to look for it in a boxset or double feature or HD area. I've decided I'm not patient enough to create my own database/spreadsheet with all the categories i like to track/sort; so I'm going to buy Profiler or use one of these other programs.
I think in my perfect world every film I own would be in it's own slimcase, arranged alphabetically, using copies for all the boxset double feature films, meaning that they would be in two places each.
