Unwatched Movie Pile: May 09
What Is This? Where Am I?
Spun off from an idea I had in the Unwatched DVD Pile thread, I decided to let everyone keep track of how they are coming along with their unwatched stuff along with seeing how everyone else is doing compared to you.
It may shock you to see how much you buy compared to how much you watch.
How Do I Start My Own List?
Here's a template. You'll have to remove the space before the 'b' for it to work right.
There are 5 different sections for your post.
Section one will be how many movies you have to watch at the beginning of the month. This won't get updated.
Section two will be your list of movies as you watch them. Update as you watch.
Section three will be for the bad, bad man who forces you to buy new movies even though you can't finish what you have. You could either to a count and change it as you get it, or impress us all with a list instead so we can see that you bought the new Power Rangers movie.
Section four will be your monthly net change. It'll be zero at the first first of each month. It works like this, let's say you watch 3 movies, it just became -3. The next day there's a 20% off sale at DDD, add 40 more so now it's +37.
Section five is your total net change. This one will carry over from the previous month or if you are just starting out, it will be zero. As you watch or buy movies, you will adjust this as well as the monthly net change.
Total Net Change is confusing. Why did you do that and a monthly one?
After the first month, my net for the month was +59. I didn't want to start off a new month with such a high number so I made it so you track both. At least that way I could be even for something and not feel like such a loser.
How Do I Count TV sets or double feature DVDs?
You count them how you would normally count them. It's up for you to decide how you want to do it.
What If I Watch Stuff As I Buy? Can I Still Join?
There's no problem if you want to keep track of what you do.

May 01 - Highlander III - Avoided the sequels until yesterday. Learned that they are as bad as everyone says, maybe worse.
May 02 - Heavy Metal - Nice animation, and great extras on the DVD, but the stories aren't all that good.
May 03 - Hitman - Horrible script/dialogue, or at least the reading of it by some mediocre actors. Action was ok.
May 04 - Pan's Labyrinth - Holy crap, what an amazingly well done film! I put off watching this for close to 3 years now, why didn't one of you force me to watch it?! Best film of 2006, and may make my top ten of all time.
May 05 - House 2 - Watched the original first to prepare, fun goofy flick. This wasn't as good, but it was enjoyable. However, after watching it, I have this nagging doubt as to whether it was my first time seeing it or not. Didn't hit me until the day after I watched it, so hopefully it was just some form of deja vu. But I'm tempted to take it off this list and watch something else, as my OCD insists that this list be for films I've never seen in any form outside of a trailer at most. What would you all do? If anyone actually reads these....
May 06 - I Spit on Your Grave - Heard about this for years, found it for a few bucks years ago. Not my type of film, but it wasn't as bad as I initially feared. Will never watch it again though. Won't sell it or give it away, as I would hate to corrupt another soul with it. Will either toss it or keep it for its film history significance.
May 07 - Hustle and Flow - Had no idea what to expect, not sure how I ended up buying this film, but loved it.
May 08 - The Hunchback of Notre Dame - The Disney animated version. Slightly above average.
May 09 - Twins Peaks Fire Walk With Me - Just watched both seasons of Twin Peaks for the first time. Wow, wait an amazing show. Yes, the first season was much better, but still very solid all the way thru to the end. But this movie was absolutely horrible. Will look for a Twin Peaks thread to discuss further.
May 10 - Howling III: The Marsupials - Had to buy this DVD just for the title, even if I wasn't a fan of the original. Watched the first two to prepare, think I had already seen the second so it's not listed here. Pretty awful, but goofy fun, and I'll probably do another Howling marathon in the future.
May 11 - Killer Klowns from Outer Space - Pretty much what you think from the title. B movie, but not too awful.
May 12 - The Invincible Iron Man - Animated film from last year (?), similar origin story to the Downey Jr. film. Decent.
May 13 - Joseph, King of Dreams
May 14 - K-19: The Widowmaker
May 15 - King Kong Escapes
May 16 - Son of Kong
May 17 - White Pongo - Lots of padding dialogue, and documentary stock footage. One of the character's names is Mumbo Jumbo, seriously.
May 18 - Savage Girl - The heroes take a taxi cab to an African safari, seriously. Kind of fun, sort of a female Tarzan.
May 19 - Law of the Jungle - Decent jungle flick with some mystery and comedy elements.
May 20 - Nabonga Gorilla - Interesting Buster Crabbe adventure.
May 21 - The White Gorilla -
May 22 - Kiki's Delivery Service - Great film.
May 23 - The Gorilla
May 24 - King Kong Lives - I didn't realize that this was a direct sequel to the 1976 version. Pretty weak.
May 25 - King Kong Production Diaries
May 26 - The Ladies Man - I'm not even slightly French apparently. I don't find anything funny in Jerry Lewis' work.
May 27 - The Last Mimzy - Loved it.
May 28 - Left Behind - Not as bad as I feared.
May 29 - Michael Shayne
May 30 - Lifeguard
May 31 - The Longest Yard - The horrible remake.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I have you and this thread to partially thank/blame for the amount of time I've been spending watching my DVDs. For years I spent more time buying and organizing them (collecting) than watching. But I hit a point where I realized I may never watch them all, and vowed to make some changes. So now I'm buying a little less and watching a heck of a lot more. If I keep this pace, I should be "caught up" in 5 or 10 years.
I actually just learned the ctrl-i and ctrl-b trick earlier today, thanks!
