Re: What are your true guilty pleaure DVDs in your collection?

The only dvds not displayed with my collection is the porn. Not ashamed of it, I just dont want to display it where kids can see it. As fOr guilty pleasures, its probably the American Pie series, or the "Movie" series (Epic Movie, Date Movie, Superhero Movie, etc)

The movie in my collection that I get the most disapproving looks for is Tank Girl....
I mean Naomi Watts as Jet Girl, what's not to like???

I liked Marie Antoinette, although admittedly while I have it I haven't watched my DVD (someone else in my family rented it, I watched that copy, and found it on sale later).

I also own Josie and the Pussycats, and I buy a lot of sequels. I wouldn't call the latter guilty pleasures, since usually what I do is watch them thinking maybe this time they'll seem better, and end up disappointed (like Blues Brothers 2000...still a terrible, terrible movie).

A lot of people are misinterpreting what I am asking, I don't really mean stuff you are "ashamed" of owning, it can be that too, I just mean stuff you get crap for owning, or people question, if nobody ever sees your collection, then I guess you don't really know what I mean.

Here is my example of what I mean. I am a grown man, mid-20s, & I have 12 volumes of Naruto Uncut. And I love every second of it

Now, we are all movie/tv dorks here, & my collection is teeny-tiny compared to some of you, but to the non-fanatic, it's the size of a Blockbuster. Not my close friends, they know what a dork I am & nothing I buy surprises them, but whenever someone is in my apartment for the first time & sees my collection & they love to completely go through it, filled as it is with plenty of other glouriously bad films that I unabashadly love, it's my poor Narutos, that sitck out like a pile of elephant-farts, every single freakin' time someone says something about them. 3 straight people, looking though all my stuff, & then . . . "dude, what's up with these?"

Maybe it's just me, this happens to? But that is what I meant. It's why I used Gilmore Girls as an example. I don't mean that there is anything wrong with it. It's just a perfect example of something I can see someone going through, a guy's collection, & then a buddy coming over going . . . . "dude, Gilmore Girls. . . seriously?! " So maybe, you don't quite display that one with the rest of your collection. Something like that.

Hanzo the Razor features Rice Rape, so you get a pass on that.

I'd more consider the remake of My Sassy Girl a guilty pleasure than the original, which was a good film.
I'll admit, lost me on that one. By the title alone Killer Pussy seems pale.

Killer Pussy is a weird and bad film, period. But it's also ridiculously funny and creative. I lump it into that category because of guilt/embarrassment for owning a film like this, and because its name draws attention - which has led to some explaining to do. Not all my friends are into "odd" films, so ...

I define guilty pleasure not as a film like Dude, Where's My Car or Gigli guilty (the same boring BS titles), but as something that also veers away from acceptable tastes, not necessarily on content quality - which I imagine most people seem to take it.

My Sassy Girl and its ilk are in fact good films, but the fellas don't usually maintain a collection of tear jerkers. Enough said.

I totally like My Sassy Girl, & it definitely is the best example of a true guilty pleasure out of everything you originally listed. I would totally rag on you if I saw it in a collection ... and then I would netflix it when I got home.

Not that I have seen it, but I have heard there is another "film" of the same name, as well as one that replaces "New" with "Nude". Both of these are "members" of the same genre of film.

Re: What are your true guilty pleaure DVDs in your collection?

I'm sure there are some titles that others might mock, and without trying to hide behind the fact, many are my wife's selections. Still and all, I have no shame or guilt about owning anything in my library.

Having said that, it recently crossed my mind that I ought to feel at least a pang of guilt at having seen Batman & Robin twice--in the theater, no less--while failing to see such releases as Citizen Kane ever.

I saw B+R in the theatre and then triple dipped on it - VHS, single DVD then the double DVD.
And i, uh, kinda like bits of it too. Well, mostly batgirl's bits
And I'm a little ashamed that to say that while I own citizen kane, I've never watched it.

I'm ashamed of nothing.

But some titles that have raised eyebrows:

Dawson's Creek
Blossom
Showgirls VIP Box

Ok, I thought of two that some people might give me a weird look about:

- The Heartbreak Kid (I thought it was amusing and I like Stiller)

- Ernest Scared Stupid (I grew up on it. It rules.)

I saw this in its theatrical run. It is one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen, and it put me off Eartha Kitt for life.

So many great Canadian shows from the 90's! <3

Too many to list, but Hot Rod is probably at the top of the list. Love that cheesy movie. I also picked up that Showgirls VIP set when it was cheep. Guess I have a thing for free shotglasses.
