My local Best Buy's apparently haven't even shelved these DVD releases yet for sale; apparently they're still in the stockroom/backroom; I didn't find either volume 1 or 2 on the floor, anywhere.

I placed an in-store pick up today and both came with slipcovers. I'm guessing my store has a bunch with slipcovers. Don't know for sure though.

The question(s) now becomes:
1. How many volumes will encompass the complete series?
2. Will Disney actually come through and release the entire series?
3. Will Disney release a "complete collection" down the line?
4. Will Disney shaft early buyers and suddenly release a "complete series" and stop individual volume releases?

P.S. I'm keeping my slipcovers.

From Amazon user "S.R.":

First of all, these episodes were NEVER 24 to 26 minutes long! Don't know where you're getting your info, but it is WRONG. The episodes on this set clock in at around 22 minutes each, which is correct. A handful of early episodes had incomplete animation that was only seen in the original airing and corrected by the original studio ever since, which is what are on these sets. For instance, the original airing of "Slave Island, Part 3" ended with the X-Men arriving at an intact X-Mansion instead of one demolished by Juggernaut. Due to animation delays/ problems with "The Unstoppable Juggernaut" episode (which was to follow chronologically), the ending was altered, since the Juggernaut episode would not be ready to air for several weeks. So "The Cure" and "Come The Apocalypse", which were ready to be aired, were shown first instead.

In fact, this series is one of the few that I would say having the original broadcast versions is not better. So many of those early episodes aired initially with incomplete special effects shots, coloring mistakes, dialogue sync errors, poor animation scenes, and so forth. They were eventually corrected in subsequent airings, but I've always feared that a studio releasing this series on DVD would give us the flawed original versions. Luckily, Disney seems to have done their homework with this one even though we were not treated to a full video/ audio restoration job. Further proof that these are not the syndicated versions - this set features the original voices of Storm and Sinister, which were re-dubbed by the replacement voice actors in reruns. BOTTOM LINE: Disney has given us the corrected versions of certain episodes that originally aired with animation errors and NOT the edited for time syndicated reruns.
In other words, pick up the sets in complete confidence that you're getting the best available version (not on Blu-ray, at least).

That depends, it doesn't divide evenly into their 16/17 episodes per release volume, but I'm going to guess there will be 5 in total (16 + 17 + 17 + 16 + 10). Of course, I could be wrong, and they could find a way to keep it down to 4 volumes.

We all hope so. One good piece of news is that there's already been preliminary art for Volume 3 floating around.

I seriously doubt it, Has Disney released ANY complete series sets? Even if they have, I'm sure it's only been for bigger live-action shows.

Again, I seriously doubt it.

Of course, these are all my personal opinions/assumptions.

Looking at an episode list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_X-Men_episodes) its possible Vol 3 could be 16-18 episodes (16 is Xavier Remembers and 18 is Secret, No Longer Buried the last episode of Season 3).

Vol 4 could be 15 episodes which would be all of Season 4

Vol 5 could be 10 episodes being all of Season 5

Otherwise the Vols would look odd because they have to make "Part x" inbetween. Some episodes of S4 aired during S3. Its a big tossup.

Keep in mind those were aired out of order, so it is possible that that it may be closer to 6 volumes.

6 Volumes would not work at all unless each one had 10 or so episodes. Its either going to be 2 or 3 volumes otherwise they run the risk of consumers getting burned out from buying a disc with 10 episodes (if even that) vs one with 15 like the previous 2.

43 episodes remain so 2 volumes with 21 each or 3 with 15 each make sense (rough numbers). I think 3 Volumes makes the most sense.

Apparently Canada didn't get the slipcovers at BB =(

I'd be willing to purchase a set if anyone has an extra with the covers.

Shoot me a PM if you do =D

Sorry your math is correct. I was counting the pending volume 3 release plus 3 more (that is how I got 6). 5 volumes would be perfect.

It all depends how Disney breaks up these various 'Part 1 of x' episodes. While 15 on each makes sense, that 15 make fall as 'Part 2 of 5' which would not work. We'll know soon enough!

Now my hunt for the slip covers...

Agreed...Spidey breaks down nicer on DVD then the X-Men...but glad to have them on DVD.

Also a point to note, my Amazon order came yesterday without slip covers.

Re: X-Men(animated) coming to DVD

Ran to my Best Buy today, found only one copy of Vol 1 left with slipcover, and like 5 of vol 2 left with slipcover.

Glad I have a matching set! Next time I won't wait so long.

I just realized, when I was looking at the episodes, I was looking at the airdate order, not story order. What you say makes sense, although it could be:
Vol 3: 16 episodes (through Xavier Remembers)
Vol 4: 17 episodes (through Beyond Good and Evil part 4)
Vol 5: 10 episodes (through the end of the series)

Considering they don't seem to care about separating by seasons, I think this makes more sense.

Something else I just thought of, I doubt it would happen, but they could fill out the 10 episode volume 5 with the 5 episodes of Spider-Man that had X-Men guest stars.

Likely. Only problem with filling in with Spider-man episodes is only if Disney owns the right to that show as well (I have no clue).

Anyway, I went to Best Buy and found they have 8 copies of each Volume with slip covers. Phew.

Re: X-Men(animated) coming to DVD

Slipcovers are NICEEEEEE. Were they first run only or after the first run? I ordered them on Amazon on Tuesday and they arrived today, without slipcovers.

Edit: Just went to BB, and they had PILES of Vol. 1 & 2 with slipcovers. I guess the slipcovers did not ship with the original shipment because my BB only had one Vol 1 & 2 in stock Tuesday morning without slipcovers.

Re: X-Men(animated) coming to DVD

My Best Buy sold out on Tuesday and still hadn't gotten a second shipment in.

Fry's had nothing.

I just want the damn slipcover ones. I'll have to hit up some more stores tonight.

Watching episode 1 right now, man has it been a long time. But am I the only one that thinks video quality is rather flat? The picture just doesn't seem that sharp.

Yea, I dunno how/why that happened, but i think that's the case. When I went to several stores on release day, NONE of them had any slipcovers and a lot of them were on the verge of selling out. When I went back today and it looked like they had restocked, nearly all stores had slipcovers for both. Kinda odd.
