Advice: Open you WALL-E discs NOW! Even if you plan to give them as gifts. Better now than Christmas morning with an expired receipt, screaming kids, pissed off parents or disappointed adults. This packaging was designed to scratch discs & is just unacceptable. Disc 1 the Feauture disc, is a floater disc with no hubs. So it just slides all around on the cardboard surface. Disc 2 & 3 are cardboard slots, good for scratching the disc everytime it's taken out/put in. I was reading the thread & thought maybe I should just check to be sure. Yep, plenty 'o scratches. None real deep, but lots of surface scratches. I don't know if the discs actually work yet, I'll check later, but right now I have the WALL-E packaging sitting next to 3 cd cases holding the discs. All I know is I'm not going to put the discs back into that packaging & scratch them even more.

I'm have never complained about packaging before. Just haven't had many packaging problems. But this one is really very bad. When you don't feel safe putting the discs back in the case, something's wrong. Disney should offer a free replacement keepcase with WALL-E artwork to everyone & anyone who purchased WALL-E. I think the backlash is already starting & will peak after the Holidays.


Funny thing is all the WALL-E crap for kids they are selling is made of plastic. Not to mention WALL-E wants me to toss out my TV & DVD player & upgrade to even more plastic High Def - Blu-Ray stuff.

Honestly, not sure what to do. Has anyone tried some sort of cd sleeves or something else, that would fit back into that packaging? I'm not up on making my own custom packaging. Any other ideas?

i'm holding out for the next wave of the release which will hopefully have a normal keepcase.

Pretty much what Clockwork said. If my replacement disks are in good shape, the two disks are going into a keepcase (giving my digital copy to a friend).

While I'm sure Disneys heart was in the right place, they should've gone with some sort of cardboard spindle for the disks.

Oh, and while they're at it, they could probably save even more trees by leaving out all the useless coupons next time.

This became my first Blu Ray purchase since the 3-disc SD was the same price and because of the flimsy packaging

Worst packaging ever, wtf were they thinking of.

So initially I purchased the 3-Disc Special Edition DVD and the 1-Disc Standard Edition DVD. Both were scratched and played terribly at the beginning.

Went to Best Buy today and exchanged both for the exact same thing and inspected the discs before leaving the store. The 1-Disc didn't have any noticeable scratching on it, but sure enough the 3-Disc had more scratches, even worse than the first one.

So I kept the 1-Disc of the DVD and swapped the 3-Disc DVD for the 3-Disc Blu-ray since they were the same price and have all the same content.

Big hassle, terrible packaging, Disney really failed on this release. Just started watching the 1-Disc DVD, so hopefully it gets through without skipping.

They think they will save the planet with this "eco-friendly" packaging. Maybe they saw the electric bill they generated by running the computers to make this movie and felt guilty for not being green.

The best packing I've seen from Pixar is the toy story box. Too bad they didn't do the same for Wall-E, would have been awesome

I need help regarding this Wall-E scratch situation.

1. I am currently out of the country.
2. I ordered from Amazon, got it delivered to my parents who are currently in the US. They will be bringing the DVDs back for me.
3. What are my options? Keep it sealed, get a copy from Best Buy, get them to possibly open one until they get one without scratches? Return the sealed item to Best Buy a few days after.
4. When they get one without scratches, would it be better to tape the discs on top of each other together during transport?

If they get one without scratches, my advice would be to get some of those white paper sleeves and put the discs in there, then stick 'em back in the box. That's what I did with my 1-Disc.

According to searches on the net, Wall-E (eco-friendly) Green DVD Packaging is a Limited Release (the first 100,000 copies). So has anybody seen a keepcase version yet? If they are coming out, I may have to wait and get one of those if I get the eco version from DD. What is everyone else getting from DD?

Went to the store and exchanged mine this morning (lady opened the package, made sure the disks were inside, handed it to me and sent me on my way. Almost like she'd done this many times before )

Gave me an excuse to watch the commentary track when I got home. Glitch free now thank goodness.

I guess I am returning my copy to Amazon then. Will just wait for the keepcase version to eventually show up. Even reviewers on Amazon have been mentioning that the packaging scratches up the discs.

Considering every copy at my local Walmart and Best Buy is in the eco packaging, I have a hard time believing the 100K story.

I agree. A title like this ships out a couple million copies in its initial release week alone, and every copy seen has been the eco-packaging.

worst part of this is last night i was over a friend's house and he had rented this and it was in a keepcase and i really wanted to just steal it.

Yeah, I really hated the packaging, luckily none of my discs were scratched/scuffed, but a regular keep case would've been fine.

Wow, I love this packaging. Ecologically friendly, and logically laid out. Kudos to Disney/Pixar.

Are you serious? It is the worst packaging EVER. The discs do NOT stay in place and are consistently scratched. I would hardly call anything about the packaging logical, given the point of a package is to prevent the discs from being damaged and this package does just that.

If you think about it, the terrible packaging defeats the whole eco-friendly idea. Why? Because I returned THREE copies of WALL-E until I got one that was scratch free. Now those are going to be returned to the company and discarded. If I did it, I imagine a lot of others did it as well.

They could have easily corrected this problem. All they had to do was make it all paper, and put a small plastic hub in the center. And I know they didn't have a problem using plastic, because all the Blu-ray discs were in standard Blu-ray plastic cases.

Normally, weird and cool limited packaging is what everyone is after to add to their collection.

However, in this case (no pun intended), I guess, the traditional keepcase is a rarity and will become a rare hard-to-find collectors item. Who have thought that?

quick question - are the bonus features on the one disc the same as the ones on the 3 disc, eco-friendly set? Thanks in advance

Well, the disc 2 contains quite a bit of features so, no. If you mean are the features on both set's first disc the same? I believe they are.

I just got my 3disc version from DeepDiscount; I looked and 2 discs have scratches already. Lucky me, another return, heh.

I received mine from DeepDiscount last week. After shaking it, the DVDs did not move inside of the case. However, due to DeepDiscount's typical shoddy packaging, the upper-right corner of the case was severely damaged.

I went to Sam's Club and purchased the best copy that I could find (from the 200+ that they had to choose from) and then returned the DeepDiscount copy to Sam's with my receipt.

Problem solved and the DVDs and case are in perfect condition.
