Yay!

From digitalbits.com

Hey kids... so the big news today is that Disney and Pixar are dropping Wall-E on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 11/18. There will be a single-disc DVD (SRP $29.99), a 3-Disc Special Edition DVD (SRP $39.99), a 2-Disc Blu-ray edition (SRP $35.99) and a 3-Disc Blu-ray Edition (SRP $40.99). The single-disc DVD will include the Presto animated short, the all new Burn-E animated short, audio commentary with director Andrew Stanton, deleted scenes, the Animation Sound Design: Building Worlds from the Sound Up featurette with Ben Burtt and the Sneak Peek: WALL-E's Tour of the Universe featurette. To this, the 3-Disc Special Edition DVD will add additional deleted scenes, 3 featurettes (The Pixar Story by Leslie Iwerks, BnL Shorts and Wall-E's Treasures and Trinkets), the Lots of Bots storybook, additional "making of" featurettes, Bot Files and a Disney File (Digital Copy) version of the film. The 2-Disc Blu-ray edition will include all of the above (minus the Digital Copy) and will add a Geek Track viewing option, the Cine-Explore with Andrew Stanton feature, PiP enhancement of Burn-E with storyboards, and an Axiom Arcade suite of "retro style videogames with a twist." The 3-Disc Blu-ray will have all that and also include a Disney File (Digital Copy) version of the film. Whew!

So, the only thing the 3-disc Blu-ray has over the 2-disc Blu-ray is the digital copy? Looks like I'll stick with the 2-disc.

Mr.Briggs 08-22-08 08:38 PM

After the last 2 Pixar's only getting one disc all I can say is I hope this is the beginning of a trend back to giving Pixar movies the quality multi discs that real fans will flock to. I'll be first in line for the 3 discer.

kstublen 08-22-08 08:45 PM

I hope that isn't the final artwork. It isn't terrible, but I think this movie deserves better.

Here's hoping Best Buy has an exclusive with it.

WALL-E gets a 3-Disc but Cars only gets a single Disc :hscratch:

Is it really necessary to waste space for a "digital file" on a separate disc altogether? It seems so wasteful for a disk you're going to use just once...

The bigger crime was Ratatouille only getting one disc (although there were store exclusive bonus discs).

Moleman1138 08-22-08 11:05 PM

I'll get single on DVD double on BD. No digital copy crap.

WALL-E: 3-Disc Special Edition!
 Hook line and sinker. Looks like the marketing is already working. The third disc is just the digital copy of the film.

Don't pay extra for that crap people. Come on!

At least you could pick up a relatively decent second disc for Cars when it came out through a store exclusive. I think I picked Target's, but they seemed to split the bonus features for what could have been a great two disc set over a few store exclusives. A terrible practice.

But what about Ratatouille? That had only a single disc and the store exclusives sucked rat balls. I think the best one I saw had a Rachel Ray cooking show on it...and that was the best one I saw.

Glad Wall-E is getting the deluxe treatment, but it's a shame Pixar seemed to drop the ball on the previous two movies. I still haven't picked up Ratatouille because I am hoping for the double disc set to come out eventually.

Anyone know the resolution of these digital copies?

Kids.

I'm doing the same. I have the PS3 on the theater TV so I want the best looking one for myself, but need a DVD version for the kids on the smaller TV, car, trips etc.

pinata242 08-23-08 08:51 AM

I originally had this penciled in for 11/4 along with Finding Nemo. Does anyone know if Nemo is still scheduled for 11/4 or has it moved to the 18th or elsewhere?

2-disc BD for me.

Got it. Don't have any kids yet to young so I didn’t think of that one not a bad idea.

Finding Nemo is pushed back to next year.

BD's too pricy for me again, but I want it on 11/18. I love this movie and will be willing to dip several times.

Moleman, I'm not picking on you or anything but you say the BD is to pricy but at your willing to double dip. I know you want the dvd first day it comes out but think about if you just saved up like $7 more you can get the BD. Instead of forking over almost $67 ($29.99 for SD plus 35.99 for when you get BD) you can just pay $35.99 at once and get the BD. I don't know it's just a thought.

the temptation to threadcrap 'Cars' is soooo tempting - must resist.

milo bloom 08-23-08 10:53 AM

Without threadcrapping, I'll just say that Cars and Ratatouille being single discers made it very easy for me to wait on buying them, but I'm buying a three disc Wall*E sight unseen.

If they go back and do Cars and Ratatouille right on DVD, I'll definitely pick them up for the collection.

Giles 08-23-08 10:58 AM

'The Pixar Story' full length doc is also great - not sure if they'll add the addendum Starz program that went into Cars and Ratatouille, but at least one out of two aint bad.

animefan 08-23-08 11:00 AM

My favorite Pixar movie so far.

Getting the Blue Ray without the digital copy.

Cars and Ratatouille were my least favorite pixar movies(but still very good movies). I still bought them but were very disappointed that it wasn't 2-disc set. I hope Pixar never does that again.
