Oh. Well we really don't need it, since the first "remake" was an abomination to mankind!

IMDb (bastion of accurate information, I know) says the script doesn't even have a green light yet: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1388372/

I finally broke and bought The Final Chapter, because I saw it was on sale at Wal-Mart for $7. I think I'm just going to pick all of Blus and DVDs up. I'd have preferred to get them all in a box, and I'd have really preferred to get them all in a Blu box with all the missing features from the "Crystal Lake to Manhattan" set, but what can you do? If that comes along down the road, I guess I'll buy it then. Hopefully, if it's less than a year away, I'll hear word on it before I've gone and bought all of the DVDs.

I only need the last 2 F13s on DVD, but I know they will all hit BD this year so I passed. I can wait till October to own the rest in BD.

At this point I think I'm over purchasing and repurchasing this series. I bought it once on VHS, twice on DVD and now I want them in blu - but I can wait until a box set is eventually released and then discounted...

I'm waiting for a Blu-box of 1-8, though it would look really cool if they put them in those red cases.

Is this confirmed or just an assumption?

Re: New "Friday the 13th" Box Set in the Works?

The box set in 2004 sold very well! The original releases in 1999-2002 also sold fairly well!

The F13 box set sold better than the Elm Street box set. It cracked the top 20 which Elm Street never did in 1999.

Yes, it's true... F13 outsold Elm Street in the new age! Although, there was a lot of hype after FVJ and over the Ultimate F13 idea and tv series in 2004 -- both projects never seeing the light of day...

Not sure how the 2009 Deluxe DVD editions and Blu-rays of the first 3 films sold? A little strange nothing has been announced on Blu for current releases in a very long time... Maybe they didn't sell as well again as they did in 1999-2004?

Anyone have any numbers on how well the 2009 editions sold because I don't think any news was released -- like most rental titles are!

Being re-releases and all, I doubt most video stores would reorder them again. So sales probably fell on the individual buyer mostly... I don't think Netflix carries the deluxe editions either...

------------------------------------------

I personally used to own the original 1999 editions and the box set, but even myself haven't purchased the DVD deluxe editions! With DVD being on its last leg and sales falling dramatically, I'm very happy I got rid of all my DVDs a couple years ago!

Collections are becoming more worthless by the day!

I know they are coming, but they are not confirmed by any means. 4-6 were planned for 09, but delayed until 10 because of the remake. We'll hear more news in probably June/July.

I'm not sure what you're referring to here. What projects never saw the light of day? The TV series for F13 did make it to DVD, Freddy's Nightmares didn't, but again not sure what you're referring to.

In September 2003, during a panel session at the Maniafest convention, Sean S. Cunningham spoke about the possibility of bringing Friday the 13th to television, with the series focusing on a group of teenagers living in the Crystal Lake area.[76] On October 22, 2005, Cunningham discussed the potential series further. He explained that the idea was to call the series Crystal Lake Chronicles, and "set [it] in a town with all this Jason history". The series would focus more on "coming-of-age issues", in a similar style to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek, and Smallville, with Jason as more of a recurring "background" character.[77]

THE ULTIMATE JASON VOORHEES MOVIE.

It was reported as a rumor yesterday, but today Variety confirms that Quentin Tarantino is in talks with New Line Cinema about writing and directing the next in the FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The KILL BILL creator will meet with executives at the company this week to discuss his ideas for what is currently being referred to as THE ULTIMATE JASON VOORHEES MOVIE.

Thanks Dino, but no reason to be an dick. We're not discussing the F13 remake here, though the tv series sounds almost as bad. Not as bad, but probably on the H20 level! It sounded very 90's! Then again, the F13 remake -- along with Final Destination 4 --was one of the very worst films of 2009, so I can't really throw stones.

I apologize! I like how you decided "ass" wasn't the right insult, so you changed it to "dick"! I agree with your decision!

The sequel to the remake has been canned. It'll be a long wait for the Blu's.

Yep, as much as I'm happy that the sequel won't happen, I'm sadden by the fact that now we have to wait a really long time for those BDs, unless they were already being made and we still see them within the next year, but I don't have high hopes.

Goddammit!

I'm curious what expectations New Line had for the remake were. I mean, it grossed $91 million worldwide (or if you just wanna look at the domestic numbers, $65 million) on a $19 million budget, and while it didn't get good reviews, that's nothing new for this franchise (for what it's worth, I thought the filmmakers did a good job making an 80's slasher flick in 2009).

Maybe if Nightmare on Elm Street makes a crap load of money next weekend, Platinum Dunes may change their mind?

I wonder if Platinum Dunes was having problems with New Line and Paramount.

I wouldn't mind a sequel since it would've helped get the rest out. Surprised they canceled it, seeing how much money it made even though it got crappy reviews. I'll also add I haven't seen the remake, so what do I know.

Freddy vs. Jason made more than Friday the 13th did domestically and worldwide and that sequel never got off the ground either. The "remake" was God awful, just making fun of every cliche they could but they didn't even do it correctly, all this film had was making fun of something until it was dead 100 times over. The term "beating a dead horse" comes to mind.
